Kinuyo Yamashita of Mega Man X3 Pariticipating in VGL

She is probably best known by game music fans for scoring Castlevania as her debut work, but Kinuyo Yamashita is also behind the music in the SNES version of Mega Man X3. What's more, she will be joining this Saturday's performance of Video Games Live this Saturday at the Tilles Center Concert Hall in Greenvale, New York. According to the press release, she will definitely be involved in the performance of Castlevania music, but it's uncertain if she will be performing anything Mega Man related. However, it is mentioned there will be new Mega Man pieces in the show nevertheless. Plus, Yamashita will be available after the show for a meet-and-greet, so you could always get something signed if you're a big fan!

If you're attending the show, let us know how it goes! You can also buy tickets here.

Factory. Video Games Live: Level 2 also includes previously unreleased music and video as well as 3+ hours of bonus features. Created and produced by industry veteran and world famous video game composer Tommy Tallarico, Video Games Live: Level 2 features the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra performing along with exclusive video footage and music arrangements, synchronized lighting, special fx, solo performers, percussionists, live action and unique interactive segments, creating a entirely unique entertainment experience.

The Video Games Live: Level 2 CD features 16 musical performances (2 additional tracks on the download version), and the DVD and Blu-Ray include never-before-televised music and video from Super Mario Bros.™, The Legend of Zelda™, Sonic the Hedgehog™, Halo®, Warcraft®, Chrono Cross®, Castlevania®, Guitar Hero®, God of War™ and many more, as well as a special Classic Arcade Medley featuring games from Pong® to Dragon’s Lair and Tetris®, and more than three hours of bonus material, including interviews  with famous video game composers, and designers from around the world,  additional and extended music segments, exclusive game trailers, “making the game” documentaries, behind-the-scenes footage, creator commentary, internet game music videos, and a special look inside a private and exclusive game composers party in Tokyo, Japan with some of the greatest game composers of all time.

“We are so excited to be releasing our second album and first DVD/Blu-Ray.  People have been asking us for years when these products will be available and we didn’t want to put anything out until we had everything we wanted,” said veteran video game composer and Video Games Live CEO/executive producer and host Tommy Tallarico. “Aside from all the cool bonus material, what’s really special for me and this project is that some of the music that appears has either never been released before or has only been available in Japan.  I think that gamers around the world are really going to be excited about the setlist and what we’ve put together for the first time in gaming history. That being said, our  goal has always been to create a show for everyone whether they play games or not. The fact that all of the game publishers have come on board with this project to help our mission says a lot about the future of gaming and how much they believe in Video Games Live.”

Filmed in New Orleans this past April in high definition with 5.1 audio surround sound, the concert features the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, a 34-person chorus; a number of soloists including pianist Martin Leung, flautist Laura “Flute Link” Intravia, original vocalists from the games; plus a rock band featuring Tallarico on guitar; and a full complement of state-of-the-art lighting, lasers and special effects.

Check out Mega Man orchestral style - Video Games Live

As we reported, a Mega Man segment was featured for the first time in Video Games Live when it performed yesterday in Los Angela's Greek Theater. Featuring the opening theme to Mega Man 2, the title theme from Mega Man 3 and of course the trademark Wily's stage from Mega Man 2, it's a pretty rockin' show. Pretty envious of all you who got to attend!

Mega Man 2 and 3 music to premiere at Video Games Live tomorrow

If you live in or near Los Angeles, California, and you're feeling impulsive, why not grab some tickets to tomorrow's Video Game Live performance and catch some premiere music from Mega Man 2 and 3! According to Joystiq, the show will take place at the Greek Theater and tickets are still available, despite that the show is just tomorrow (June 4th). If you have the means, be sure to check it out. And if you get to, let us know how it was! News Credit: Jack

Mega Man Joining Video Games Live

Well, this is certainly embarrassing; I thought that we had already covered this bit of news, but following a tip from reader Windsor Genesis and a search through our archives-- nothing. So I guess this isn't so much "new" as it is "information," but nonetheless, I hope it serves some of you well. This year, Video Games Live is adding some new music to its lineup, including themes from games such as Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, Shadows of the Colossus, Earthworm Jim, Shenmue, and our favorite Blue Bomber, Mega Man! There's no word on when they will be added to the roster, or which tunes, or if they're already there for that matter, but if you find out, let us know.

For those interested, here's VG maestro Tommy Tallarico's video interview from earlier this year, where he spills the beans:

Video Games Live is a tremendous experience, but it really must be experienced live-- YouTube just doesn't even come close to cutting it. You can read more about the live experience here. It's also the best excuse to pretend to be cultured around your friends and family:

"So, what are you doing tonight?" "Oh, I'm going out to the orchestra. And you?" "...Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball... again."

Now, with all that said... we know he's bringing Mega Man to the event, but still, that's a pretty narrow description, given the breadth of the series and all of its many themes. I'd love to hear some classics such as Cut Man's theme, the Dr. Wily Stage 1 theme from Mega Man 2, the Mega Man 2 title theme, and more, just from the Classic series alone. Some X tunes would rock as well. Which ones would you like to hear as performed by a live orchestra?
