Manami Matsumae speaks.Read More
It was only a few weeks ago that we brought you word of Target Acquired, a mobile game which was described as "Mega Man meets Temple Run" whose developers were seeking funding through Kickstarter. The time is up, and now is the time to celebrate with Mega Musician Manami Matsumae!Read More
But what makes it so special is who those artists are. It includes work from a variety of people connected to Mega Man, such as Manami Matsumae (Mega Man), BUNBUN (Mega Man 3), Makoto Tomozawa (Mega Man 7, Mega Man Legends), Seiko Kobuchi (Mega Man X Command Mission), and SENSORS made up of Ippo Yamada and other Inti Creates sound staff. Other tracks are backed by people who have worked in various game and anime music, people who do live shows and other well known doujin artists. For a doujin album it's loaded with a myriad of star power!
You can sample the album with these two cross fade selections: [audio:http://www.etlanz.com/megarock/disc_demo1.mp3] - Disc 1 demo [audio:http://www.etlanz.com/megarock/disc_demo2.mp3] - Disc 2 demo
Furthermore, while I was intending to keep this under wraps, I will say now: I have two copies of this album that we will be giving away on TMMN in the near future. Stay tuned for that opportunity!
World 1-2 is now available for pre-order for $10, and will release on May 2nd. However, you can listen to five tracks from the album right now, including Matsumae's. Furthermore, if you pre-order now you can download those tracks right away in whatever format you desire.
This is Matsumae's first work on a non-Japanese project. What do you think of her single? Does it seem Mega Man-ish?
Wow, you guys must really be excited about this news, given all the tips we've gotten. Never let it be said we don't live to please... For everyone else who doesn't know, Shovel Knight is a game being developed by Yacht Club Games, a studio formed by former employees of WayForward Technologies, including those who worked on such titles as Contra 4, A Boy and His Blob, Thor: God of Thunder, Mighty Milky Way, BloodRayne Betrayal, and most recently, Double Dragon Neon. The game itself is described as "a hot mashup of new and old that may remind you of Mega Man, Castlevania, or Dark Souls".
They've been working to fund their new project through Kickstarter, and have surpassed their goal of $75,000 with $107,109 and eight days left, as of this writing. Their most recent announcement (and the reason everyone's been giving us tips) is because their team has added Manami Matsumae to their ranks to compose two songs for the game. Matsumae has composed songs for the Classic Mega Man games, including the original Elec Man and Cut Man themes, and more recently, Nitro Man's theme from Mega Man 10.
"This is the first time I'm working on a Western game!", Matsumae says. "It's quite exciting! Shovel Knight and I are a good fit. So... let's get shovelin'?"

A short while back, we reported to you about the development of World 1-2, a gaming inspired music album headed by Mohammed Taher, and bringing together a number of big names from game music, including original Mega Man composer Manami Matsumae. Recently, Mohammed got to sit down with Ms. Matsumae and had a pretty lengthy conversation with her. They go over details such as how Manami got her start in music, her work in joining Capcom and scoring Mega Man, returning again for Mega Man 10, and the tune she's making for World 1-2. It's a very fascinating read, especially those interested in the people behind game music.
Thanks for sharing, Mohammed!
Composing legend to the classic Mega Man games, Manami Matsumae (though you might know her better as Manami Ietel or Chanchacorin Manami) will be contributing a musical piece to the game music appreciation album, World 1-2. Directed by Mohammed Taher, World 1-2 brings together a variety of notable musicians from throughout gaming. You can find out more here. Mohammed tells us that Manami will be contributing an original track, but one that steeped in classic Mega Man style. They are going for something like Nitro Man's theme Manami's track from Mega Man 10. We certainly can't wait to hear it!
Thanks for the tip, Mohammed! Good luck in your project!
