This weekend is the second annual Megamanathon to raise money for Child's Play. On July 20th, Adam Strickland will be at "The Last Gamestore" in Halifax as he attempts to muscle his way through all ten numbered Mega Man Classic games and bring in enough money to reach-- or surpass-- their $1,500 (Canadian) goal.
As you can see in the video above, there will be several raffle prizes available to those who purchase tickets (one for $2, or three for $5), including figures, comics, and perhaps best of all, an honest-to-goodness Mega Man quilt! Be sure to check out their website and/or their Facebook page for more details.
Over the course of those 24 hours, they will be playing through all 10 Classic Mega Man titles (yes, we know there are more, but you know what we mean). The group also hopes to interview some special guests, and they will be raffling the following items off to those who donate money to the cause:
- Mega Man beadsprites from Otaku Beadsmith
- Mega Man artwork from GAAM
- Gaming T-Shirts from the Drawp FGC Collection
- Customized Mega Man Custom Figure from Kodykoala
- Customized Mega Man Helmet Fleece Hat from The Roadstown Crafts
- …and more!
Thanks for the tip, Joshua!
Thanks to Victor, we just received word that the folks at MegaMarathon are holding... well, a MegaMarathon. They began on December 8th and have been working through both Classic and X series games in alternating order (Mega Man, Mega Man X, Mega Man 2, Mega Man X2, etc.), and as of this writing, they are now at Mega Man X6. The point, of course, is to help raise money for charity; in this case, Child's Play. As of this writing, they are 18 percent of the way there, and as is often the case for marathons such as this, those who donate are eligible for prizes. So head on over to the page, check out their progress, and dig deep to give this holiday season!
For the next 48 hours, the MX3 Team will be doing what everyone loves: playing Mega Man. But what's more, they're doing it for charity! So give 'em a look, and donate some cash if you're feeling generous. It all goes to support the Child's Play organization.
Mega Man, plus donating to a good cause? What could be better?
The music you hear in the video is from The Megas' new album, History Repeating Blue, which they will be giving away throughout the duration of the marathon to those who donate any amount, as well as those who spread word of their endeavor (mx3team.com) on Twitter with the hashtag #MX3Team or "Like" them on Facebook. "The more you promote us the better chance it is for you to win."
For further updates, you can follow them on Twitter @megamarathonman, and if you would like to donate before the marathon begins, you can do so using the ChipIn widget on their webpage and even get your name in lights.
As we mentioned earlier, OtaRockman is this weekend, but if you're unable to go, that doesn't mean you won't be able to get your fill of Blue Bomber goodness. In fact, you'll probably be able to get even more, and can help a good cause in the process! On Sunday, July 29th, the Megamanathon will be held from 11am until 10pm as Adam Strickland will go through all ten main Mega Man Classic games to raise money for IWK Child's Play wishlist, "where we will buy games that all of the sick children want while they spend the time in the hospital!"
There will also be raffle tickets sold for prizes at a rate of one ticket for $2 or three for $5. Prizes include a Mega Man t-shirt from Sharkrobot.com and a copy of the Mega Man Robot Master Field Guide from UDON Entertainment.
You can find out more info by joining the Megamanathon event page on Facebook.
Whoops, word of this one came in a little late, but at least it hasn't started yet...
At noon EST today, New Year's Day, TorontoTopTiers will be holding a Mega Man X marathon to raise money for Penny Arcade's Child's Play charity. Though past years have seen them (as Golden Horse Shoe Street Fighter) tackle the Classic series, games planned for this year's marathon are the eight numbered Mega Man X titles, and entries into drawings for prizes will be given for every $10 a person donates. Prizes include:
- 1 FC3 Plus Console! Plays Sega Genesis, SNES, and NES games, and comes with 2 controllers and all the hook ups! Prize provided by Omega Collectables - 2 PS3/PC USB Saturn style controllers! Prize provided by Omega Collectables - 1 D-Arts Full Armor Mega Man X Figure from The Toy Trove - Select T-shirts from GDLK Apparel
By donating, you will also become eligible to win one of the prizes donated to their cause by Capcom themselves, including Mega Man posters, sticker sets, and energy drinks, as well as more valuable gifts, such as a copy of MegaMan Battle Network 6: Cybeast Falzar, Servbot bobbleheads, a copy of Mega Man: The Wily Wars, and even one of the highly-coveted Mega Man 9 press kits.
So be sure to tune in and cheer them on, and donate if you can!

Thanks for the heads up, Zach!
It's that time of year again, when people cast a generous eye towards the Penny Arcade charity Child's Play. And this year, Carmine Macchia III has opted to put a very interesting lot of items from both the Mega Man and Rockman sides of the franchise up for auction in order to raise money. Some of the items are still sealed, and some are even autographed by former Mega Man producer Keiji Inafune! Check it out:
As you can see, the lot is quite plentiful, and the details of its full contents are as follows:

Any number of the autographed or sealed items in this auction would no doubt fetch an impressive price on their own, but the winner of this lot gets the whole thing.
Carmine notes that "This is the collection of a lifelong Mega Man fan," and "I had the honor of meeting series creator Keiji Inafune at Gamestop in New York, where he signed all of the SNES manuals, as well as Mega Man 8's manual."
The bidding is already up to $102.52 with three bids as of this writing, and the auction still has nine days and 18 hours left to go. Once the auction is closed and set, ten percent of the final sale price will go to benefit the Child's Play charity.
If you're interested in taking part, you'll find the auction on eBay here. And if you would like a closer look at what is being offered, you may either peruse the gallery on the auction page, or our own gallery below.
In other instance of gaming for a cause, a group of fans have begun a Mega Man Marathon (or Megathon) just an hour ago now. They are set to play through Mega Man 1-10, and Mega Man X1-8, and will keep playing all the way through Monday. The donations will go directly to the Child's Play charity. Be sure to check them out and give them your support! Four straight days of Mega Man... I dunno if I'd have the stamina. And I work for a Mega Man site!
