BOOM! Studios Announces Mega Man: Fully Charged Comic Book for August Release

The last time we heard anything about Mega Man: Fully Charged, the news wasn’t good (unless you’re one of the ones who absolutely hated the show — then it was very good).

Which makes today’s announcement from BOOM! Studios all the more surprising.

Coming in August, Mega Man: Fully Charged will be a six-issue limited series written by A.J. Marchisello and Marcus Rinehart, with artist Stefano Simeone providing the illustrations. Man of Action Entertainment is also attached in some capacity.

Based on the television series of the same name, MEGA MAN: FULLY CHARGED features heroes like Mega Man, Rush, and Dr. Light in fully charged adventures battling the wickedest of Robot Masters led by Dr. Wily.

After Mega Man’s father Dr. Light is kidnapped, a shocking truth rocks Mega Man’s world as it seems the Robot Masters know more about his secret history than he does. But as Dr. Wily’s machinations trigger Mega Man’s forgotten memories of the brutal human/robot war, our hero is left to question just who he is and if he can trust anything or anyone – including the man he calls father.

There is a bit to unpack here, most notably the inclusion of Dr. Wily, as Bert Wily was the only character with the Wily name in the series. It seems that it may take a slightly darker tone from the cartoon, something BOOM! Studios comics have had a tendency to do now and again.

BOOM! Studios is the publisher of a wide range of comic books based on various popular properties, including their hit Mighty Morphin Power Rangers titles, which have done their part to reshape the franchise in recent years with the creation of Lord Drakkon and the “Shattered Grid” storyline, which became the basis for the Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid video game’s storyline.

A.J. Marchisello and Marcus Rinehart wrote several episodes of the TV series, including some personal favorite episodes, such as the “Lightfall” two-parter.

As noted, the book is due to arrive in August of this year, and will be available in comic book shops (find your nearest one here) and the BOOM! Studios web store. If digital is more your jam, you’ll also be able to find it on comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and Madefire.

Finally: No, there’s no new info on the Archie Mega Man comic book series, which has been “on hiatus” for about four and a half years now.
