Rockman X Anniversary Collection Release Date Given for Japan

Capcom of Japan has announced that the games that will be known in the west as Mega Man X Legacy Collection and Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 will be titled “Rockman X Anniversary Collection” and “Rockman X Anniversary Collection 2” in Japan when it is released for the Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC on July 26th, 2018.

Accompanying the announcement is the following trailer:

In addition to confirming that the collection will indeed be split into two parts, it turns out that the split will be clean as well: Four games on the first collection, four games on the second. And, as is the style of the times, there will be an option for a visual filter allowing you to choose between crisp, high definition pixel art, or something a little closer to when these games first came out.

Other fun bonuses can be found in the Museum mode, which contains a gallery, music player, a catalog of Rockman X merchandise, a theater of various trailers for the games, and even The Day of Σ original video animation that was unlocked upon completion of Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X for the PlayStation Portable.

Want more? You got it! The “X Challenge” mode is also available, where you’ll be pit against Maverick bosses, not one, but two at a time!

According to Siliconera (who are also to be credited for the two clean box art images above), there are some interesting things to note about the format in which these will be released.

All four platforms will see digital releases, of course, while physical releases will only be available for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch (which doesn’t rule out an Xbox One physical release when it comes to North America — remember that the Xbox brand isn’t nearly as strong in Japan), only PlayStation 4 owners will see the entire game in the package.

Much like the upcoming Nintendo Switch release of Mega Man Legacy Collection 1+2, only one of the set will be available in the Game Card; the other (I’m guessing the second, larger one, if what’s happening with Mega Man Legacy Collection 1+2 holds true here) will have to be downloaded.
