Bandai Bringing Back Rockman X Carddass and Hosting Armor Design Contest

With Rockman‘s 30th anniversary on the horizon, it appears that Bandai of Japan is in a bit of a nostalgic mood.

For starters, there’s been the return of the Mega Armor Series of model kits which were popular among fans in the late 90’s and early 00’s as the new “Giga Armor Series,” which we’ve seen bits and pieces of earlier this year. And now, it appears that to coincide with this series, Bandai is planning a “resurrection” series of the Rockman X Carddass vending machine series of collectible cards.

Unfortunately, there really aren’t any further details except that a commemorative booklet will be involved. However, if we went strictly by the image here, it seems that these will be reprints of the original selections of cards from back in the day, rather than new designs.

Of related but slightly-less interest (unless you happen to live in Japan) is that Bandai is also holding an Armor Design Contest as well, which runs until January 12th. The winner will apparently have their design rendered by Rockman X manga artist Yoshihiro Iwamoto, with it released as a wallpaper background for smartphones, plus a unique art piece (perhaps the illustration in question) as a print.

All other participants will apparently receive the new Carddass set, as well as the smartphone wallpaper.

Folks outside of Japan can’t participate, but if you’ve got an artistic itch to scratch, here’s the template provided for participants:

You can check out the official website for the contest here, and if you click the middle tab, you’ll also be able to see some of the entries received thus far.
