Is This an amiibo Card for Mega Man? (Apparently Not)

One of the worst kept secrets about Nintendo’s line of amiibo figures is that they’re pretty hard to find. As such, one who might wish to play as a Mega Man-styled racer in Mario Kart 8 or train their own virtual Blue Bomber as a sparring partner in the latest Super Smash Bros. might not be able to easily live the dream.

In response to the outcry over the shortage, Nintendo has hinted that we could see amiibo cards appear as an alternative to the figures. Granted, that would leave fans without a figure of Mega Man in his cool Smash-styled design on their desks, but at least they would be able to enjoy the perks which would otherwise come with it.

To date, Nintendo has not shown off any such cards for the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U / Nintendo 3DS roster, however, though they did recently give us a look at an implementation of the idea for use with a game based on the Animal Crossing franchise called Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer.

More recently, Nintendo of Europe made an interesting tweet with the image seen above attached, simply saying “You Rock, Man. #SmashBros.” Tipster Michael S thinks this may be the design for such an amiibo card for the Blue Bomber — what do you think? And if this is indeed what it is, are you interested in getting one?

Update: Thanks to some TMMN readers, it seems these types of images aren’t uncommon from Nintendo, and have predated the announcement of amiibo cards. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they won’t be used as the templates for the cards (much as the Super Smash Bros. promo art were used as the templates for the amiibo figures themselves), but there is nothing to officially tie them together at this moment.
