Mega Man Spends the Holidays with Nintendo in New Commercials

When it comes to television commercials outside of Japan, you can probably count the number of television spots Mega Man has starred in on one hand. This year, however, you can add two more to that number thanks to Nintendo.

On the company’s YouTube channel, Nintendo has posted two new Nintendo 3DS commercials featuring The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS — the latter, of course, being where the Blue Bomber makes his appearance.

What’s interesting to note in these spots is that, near as I can tell, Mega Man is the only third-party character from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS to make an appearance — no Sonic, no Ryu, no Pac-Man. What’s more, and curious at that, is no mention of Mega Man being property of Capcom (and just a general mention of “your favorite Nintendo characters”).

Not that this means anything at all, just an odd little thing, since the companies are usually credited in the promotional materials for the game that I’ve seen, including trailers.

So those of you hoping that Nintendo will take over the franchise, don’t get your hopes up — it’s all probably inconsequential, and I’m sure we’d have all heard long before a commercial was greenlit if anything substantial happened that put Mega Man in better company with Nintendo. Just the same, I thought it was interesting enough to note while sharing the Titanium Titan’s first commercial appearance in some time.
