Archie Brings Convention-Exclusive Comic Covers to the New York Comic-Con (Updated)

The 2011 New York Comic-Con will be held from October 13th to 17th at the Javits Center in New York City, and Archie Comics will be in attendance. What’s more, they are bringing some convention-exclusive collectibles with them.
IGN reports that exclusive covers will be available for what will then be the new/current issues of both Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man, which will be #229 (part four of the “Genesis” story arc) and #6 (part two of the “Time Keeps Slipping” story arc), respectively. For Sonic, this means a pencil variant of the cover featuring Super Sonic as rendered by none other than Patrick Spaziante. As for Mega Man

Well, much as we hate to say this, but it’s a little underwhelming by comparison. To fit with the Mega Man Powered Up-inspired story arc featuring Time Man and Oil Man, this version of Mega Man #6 features one of Capcom’s stock art images of Mega Man from the game in question. No Time Man or Oil Man, no other characters, no background. Just Mega Man with the title and name of the story.

You can see both covers below. And to be honest, while we’ve enjoyed what Archie has been doing with the comic otherwise, even we could understand if Mega Man fans who attend the NYCC instead opted for the Sonic comic.

Update: We forgot to mention, IGN also notes that Patrick Spaziante and the creative team behind Mega Man will be on hand for autographs at the show.
