Mega Man in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3: “Missed It by That Much?” and Other Details

Right behind the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3, the worst news to come out of last week was that Mega Man– be it X, Volnutt, or any other hero to bear the name– did not make the cut for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. At the very least, it only served to add fuel to the fire.
However, to Capcom’s credit, they were not so cold as to tell us right away that there would be no Mega Man in the game; that information came about due to leaks. But with it out in the open and confirmed, it freed them to be able to talk about it at greater length… for what that has been worth, anyway.

In addition to Niitsuma’s statement, EventHubs.com reports that during a video chat from San Diego Comic-Con, Capcom U.S.A.’s Vice President of Strategic Planning & Business Development, Christian Svensson, revealed that “Gene from God Hand was in very close consideration for UMvC3‘s roster. They had more characters in the final pool than they could put in the game, and Gene happened to be in that category. Mega Man was in the final pool of characters too.”

Svensson also reaffirmed that “Mega Man is absolutely not dead and continues to be a very important brand for them.”

One other note, for those who are still into Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Svensson noted that the costumes will not feature alternate colors this time out; instead, as in Street Fighter IV, “the focus is instead on changing the geometry around.” With that said, might we see Mega Man Zero‘s version of the legendary Maverick Hunter this time?

Thanks to DuoDynamo for the tip!

(With apologies to the late, great Don Adams for the headline.)
