MegaMan vs MegaMan, Place Your Bets Now!

WARNING: There will be spoilers here for Rockman.EXE Operate Shooting Star. I advise hitting BACK on your browser now if you wish to avoid spoilage.

Anyway, Operate Shooting Star has been out for a couple days now and seeing how it’s almost exactly the same as Battle Network, you can bet it doesn’t take long to progress through the game (the BN Guide written by Magnet for example helps tremendously when you don’t know Japanese). That being said one of the most frequently asked questions has been when does the Star Force stuff happen and when do you get to kick the tar out of Geo Stelar?

After the ElecMan scenario actually, so it’s almost right before the end for those keeping track. Following ElecMan’s defeat Mayl is harassed by Count Zap and Madoi and calls Lan over. Some talking ensues and you Jack into the net and come across an imposter MegaMan that you gotta chase down through Internet-1 and 2.

Shortly past the Shop area you pin down Geo and…

After this some scenes happen and you get to use Geo in battle. Y Button brings up a shield, X activates the lock on attack on the first thing in your line of sight and your buster is overall weaker than MegaMan.EXE’s. Random battle music is replaced with the Virus busting theme from Star Force while boss fights use the Star Force 2 Wave Battle theme.

I was kind of hoping for some Star Force 3 songs myself. Anyway this is as far as I’ve gotten, so I’ll go back to slugging away at this now.

Putting the Brakes on Turbo Man

They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but if the dog did something you never knew of? Imagine my surprise when I was (as usual) watching a skillrun of Mega Man 7 on Youtube.com and the player pulled off a rather amazing trick with the fight against Turbo Man. Upon seeing it I just HAD to give it a try myself and after some practice…

…oh poor Turbo Man, life is most cruel to you.

So go on, try it yourself. Celibrate the release of Transformers – Revenge of the Fallen on DVD by smiting Mega Man’s very own Decepticon, except without having to put up with Shia LaBeouf.

EDIT: It’s not just Turbo Man you can pull this off on, though he IS the easier one to do it on;

MMN Antarctic Megapaluza Special 7 – Mega Man X Chill Penguin

The month of August may be drawing to a close, but our goal to reach out to the denizens of Antarctica will not cease now! Curious as to how our specials have been recieved among those in the far South Pole, LBD Nytetrayn personally has gone down to gauge the reactions of those who have dwelled there.

…it has been several days since negotiations with the penguins have begun. I am certain however we will be able to make a deal that will release Nytetrayn and his fellow hostages in due time. If that does not work, I fear we may have to take more…drastic measures, such as having Mav bust them out in his mobile suit.

Until then, we shall remain vigilant and continue to reach out to the populous of Antarctica with yet another video by yours truely, this time a no damage trek through the winter snow base of Chill Penguin, the first arctic themed boss of the X series.

Stay with us as with luck, Nyte will be rescued as the final video of the Megapaluza will appear within the week. Until then, this is your Local Geohound signing off.

~Ryudo, who is well aware Nyte is just away for the weekend. Couldn’t resist, though >_>

Capcom on Star Force 3: Noise Kaizou Gear is Out, DLC is in

So Star Force 3 has been out for a bit, and I’m certain many are enjoying this vastly superior entry in the series (I know I am). However as some who have played the Japanese version may know, certain things are not available in this game, notably the Noise Kaizou Gear, Rezon Cards andSecret Satellite Server Brothers. These features were much like Wave Command Codes in that you could input a series of taps on the Touch Screen to power yourself up in various ways. For reasons “unknown” these were omitted from the North American release of the game and not surprisingly, there was great rage among the fandom (somewhat justified since this’ll have been what, the 3rd time that a game in the BN/SF series had some major things removed from the North American release).

Long story short, this was brought up on the Capcom Unity forums in a thread that Seth has graciously taken the time to not only answer, but look into things regarding the manner. After a few days he was able to give us some answers;

Here is the info I received from Japan. It’s a bit of a game of “telephone” where my original questions have mutated a bit in translation, but hopefully you can get the gist of it.

- Noise Kaizou Gear
This is a set of licensing item (cards), so it’s not available in US territory.

* But, we’re distributing “White Cards” (one specific kind of cards available in this Noise Kaizou Gear) on our official website.

– Rezon cards
This is a part of “Noise Kaizou Gear”, so it’s not available in US territory.

* We’re not planning to distribute them on our official website.

- Secret Satellite Server

This is a booklet published by Capcom Japan, and it’s not available in US territory.

* But, we’re distributing some of the “Cipher Codes” (which are included in this booklet) on our official website.
- Meteor Server

If this means the “Meteor Server” which the powered up boss appears after collecting certain number of stars on title menu, it’s available in US version, too.

For the record, nobody on the US side made a decision to remove any content–it seems to be a licensing issue. There will be some additional free content coming to Wii-ware soon, as well as more website content, but that’s the best info I could get at the moment.

best,

Seth

He also mentions that there will be extra cards coming to the Nintendo Channel that you can download using your Wii.

There you have it. Capcom of America didn’t remove these features out of pure spite, but didn’t have any choice in the matter due to Licencing issues. They are however going the extra mile and giving downloadable content, though I imagine this won’t be quite satisfying to some people. Reminds me of the missing Boktai features of BN6 (Konami of America wanted them out, so Capcom removed them and as compensation inserted side quests that required the use of an E Reader in Japan), but nowhere near as drastic.

Keep in mind however that NONE of these features are required to finish the game or access hidden areas. You can visit each map in Star Force 3 provided you meet the conditions for them (Standard Complete, etc). That said, get off their backs already.

Tatsunoko vs Capcom America Bound!

In a completely shocking turn of events, Capcom has decided to bring over this mishmash cross over fighting game outside of Japan.

Found here on GoNintendo, it appears that the July issue of Nintendo Power will be featuring a story on the english edition of this spiritual sequel to Capcom vs Marvel 2 that was released on the Wii just last year in Japan. To those wondering why this is important to the fandom, two of the playable characters in this game are Megaman Volnutt from Mega Man Legends and Roll from Classic Mega Man!

That makes me wonder if the voices behind the english Legends games may reprise their roles for this, if they bother to dub the game.

Needless to say we’ll be keeping close tabs on this as things develop.

Rockman 5: Wily’s Dream Space Released

April 10, 2009 by Ryudo

Remember how back in the day Mega Man 5 used to be tough to beat, but nowadays it’s one of the easiest games to best in the franchise (unless you do some crazy No Charge Shot/Slide challenge, among others) without much effort? Always wanted one of the most favoured of the NES titles to be much, much tougher?

Furthermore have you always wanted some Kirby in your Mega Man 5?

Well Tar, maker of the Rockman 2 hack Rockman 2 Minimum has both these things covered with the release of Rockman 5: Wily’s Dream Space, a hack of Rockman 5 for NES.

What is Wily’s Dream Space? It’s a complete overhaul of Rockman/Mega Man 5 with all levels redone, new music, edits made to weapons, modified Boss AI + Weaknesses along with MUCH stronger enemies. All these elements together make it a very tough game to handle.

Easily the best of the known MM5 hacks so far, it’s challenging but fun at the same time. I personally love the new music that the game sports, course that MAY be because all of the songs in this game are lifted from other games like Earthbound and Donkey Kong Country;

The patch for the game can be found here, but obviously you’ll have to find the ROM yourself. Being just released there aren’t that many videos of it yet, although notable names like qzecwx and insectduel are already working on the game as we speak. Can’t wait to see them tackle Gravity Man’s level.

Okay so I cheated a little, I was sick of dying all the damned time! >_>

Real Operation Really in English? For Real?

No, this isn’t an April Fools joke. You’ve already seen what we do for those >_>

No what we have here is an actual in progress English patch of Rockman EXE 4.5, which is one of the few titles in the Battle Network series that has not been released outside of Japan. Spikeman has been working on translating this game for the last couple of years and released a partial patch for the ROM of the game a while ago. The result translates some parts of the game into english, however a majority of it is still in Japanese.

Is the game playable however? Personally I don’t have a problem with it, even though I don’t understand a single bit of Japanese (hasn’t stopped me from nearly beating Ryusei no Rockman 3 however). Some key parts are in English like Battle Chip names and the main Menu tabs, though there are some who will absolutely refuse to play a game that isn’t fully translated.

It pretty much comes down to a judgment call on if you want to play it or not. For those interested in how the game works, I’ve made a basic tutorial video on Youtube. The patch can be found here, however you’ll have to find the ROM of 4.5 on your own for obvious reasons.

MegaMan Star Force 3 Release Date: June

February 27, 2009 by Ryudo

That’s right, June. According to Joystiq’s recent article covering Nintendo listing several release dates for Wii/DS games, MegaMan Star Force 3 Black Ace and Red Joker are slated for a June release as opposed to the much rumoured August one. While no specific date has been planned, this should come as a welcome surprise to those who have been waiting patiently for its release.

Capcom themselves have yet to make an official statement (which will likely be when the actual date is revealed) so I do suggest taking this with a bit of salt in mind, as things could change in the coming months. We will be keeping tabs on this as time rolls along.

Blaster Masters

So you believe you’re quite familiar with a specific game, you feel as if you KNOW all the ins and outs of it, but then just like that, you see something that is there that you have never witnessed before and it completely FLOORS you.

Those was pretty much my thoughts as I watched qzecwx play through Mega Man X2 methodically while performing feats and exploiting glitches that I’ve never thought possible.

If the name sounds familiar, it’s because we’ve already made an article on one of qzecwx’s videos in which he fought and defeated all 8 Robot Masters of Mega Man 2 at once. Since then he’s done a number of playthroughs of Mega Man Hacks such as Rockman Exile, Rockman 3 Alpha, (also has a nack for finding in development hacks like Rockman Mind Roar) and just recently he’s moved onto the SNES Mega Man X games. As if now he’s just finished X2 with the intent of starting X3 in the near future. Many of you know that X3 is my all time favourite Mega Man game, and I for one am looking forward to seeing how this will turn out.

Alongside qzecwx, there’s also thebeatlespwnj00 who is famous for his Mega Man Mastered perfect buster only runs, ACESpark and his many Let’s Play Mega Man __ runs and many, many more. Hell even your own MMN Geohound has done a series of Reset like Retrospectives.

All in all if you’re someone who’s wanted to see some truly skilled players take cracks at well known games, or always wanted to check out some of the famous fan hacks like Rockman no Constancy in action, I highly suggest checking these guys out. Like me you’re bound to learn alot of things in the proccess.

Mega Man 9 Nintendo Release?

…Nah, I’m just pulling your leg. Basically when Capcom came up with the “Box Art” pic from a while ago, they were going with mindset of promoting this game as if it were from 1987 and with it, came an idea to make a NES Package consisting of said hideous boxart, a completely goofy game description on the back and a NES Cart to boot!

However, before you start digging through the back of your closet to bring out I should warn you that’s not a real NES Cart, but instead it’s a split open case for a CD containing artwork, game information and screenshots.

mega_man_9_press_kits_back

Capcom is considering selling a limited quantity (about 200) at the Capcom Store, possibly with a XBLA or PSN game voucher and are urging fans to comment if their interested in it.

…So what are you waiting for, DO IT!
