For those unaware, Kirby Krackle is a “Nerd Rock Band” based in Seattle, WA. The duo writes songs about the things they love: “comic books, video games, zombies, girls and more”. Their latest song, now streamable on their site, is titled “Take it from me” and is about the blue bomber himself, Mega Man. The band had this to say about the new song:

“There are video games you grew up on, and then there are video games you were RAISED by. For us, that was the 8-bit parent we and 1.5 million other kids who loved it called MEGA MAN 2. For a long time we wanted to write a song about Mega Man but didn’t know how we were gonna do it until we wrote the opening riff and had our Eureka moment. See, if we were born in the year 20XX and Dr. Light sent us across 8 levels to kick ass, this is kinda song we would hope to have running though our headphones hooked up to our blaster arm. Just sayin. With shredding solos provided by good friend Patrick Porter, we wanted to create an-in-your-face song worthy and confident of kicking robot ass…not matter what those bastards were made of…”

“Take it from me” will be part of their new album, “E for Everyone”. The 11-song album comes with a full illustrated, 8-page lyrics booklet. You can pre-order it now for ten bucks (plus $2 S&H). They’ll also be playing a live, CD-Release show at Emerald City ComiCon on Sunday March 14th at 2pm.

You can stream “Take it from me” as well as other songs on both their site and their blog.
With the addition of a new artist named Ralph Vickers, the missing tracks are filling out and we’ll supposedly have a new release date to look forward to very soon. The project has also finally been given a name. The album will be called “Back in Blue”.

This time, Heat Man joins me and a few others on our weekly videogame podcast. Mega Man comes up in several ways as Heat bears his soul in the form of his history with Mega Man fan sites. He also shares with us his experience at CES including the time he spent with Mega Man 10.

You’ll also hear the usual talk of “what we’ve been playing” followed by a discussion of some of the game related news items of the past week. But let’s cut to the chase. You’re really going to listen to hear Heat’s sultry voice. So what are you waiting for? While many (myself included) never thought the game would come over here, Capcom thankfully proved us wrong. What does this have to do with Mega Man? Well, as you probably know by now, TvC features not one, but three playable Mega Man characters; each from a different series: Mega Man Volnutt/Trigger (Legends Series), Roll (Classic Series), and Zero (X Series), not to mention Frank West’s “Real Mega Buster” Hyper Combo.

But is the game any good?

Capcom was nice enough to send me a copy so that I could review it on the site I primarily write for, WingDamage.com. As for the Mega Man specific stuff: Zero is everything I want him to be and more, Mega Man Volnutt feels very different than Mega Man Classic (featured in Marvel vs. Capcom) in a good way, and Roll is adorable. You can find my full, detailed review of the game here.

And before you throw tomatoes at me for linking my own review, you should know I was asked to make this post.

Looks like it didn’t take long at all for a trailer of the Rockman Zero Collection to drop. While the first half is a pretty straightforward gameplay montage of the series, the second half shows off a bit of the bottom screen. It’s hard to say much about it from what the trailer shows, but it looks like boss artwork is displayed on the bottom screen. There’s also some sort of menu that looks like it contains thumbnails of the artwork. It’s entirely possible that the bottom screen could be a dedicated art gallery, but hopefully this is only one of several functions.

The number one thing I took away from this trailer is that the music seems to be retained from the original instead of using the remasters. I doubt they’d show this trailer with the original GBA music if the music in-game was going to be the redone versions. Honestly, this isn’t too surprising considering the ridiculous amount of space it would take to contain 4 games worth of music in actual compressed audio instead of MIDI. Ah well.

Lastly, the mystery of the “extra logo” has been solved. It seems the rectangular slot on the official site that was previously empty has been filled in with a link to this very trailer which is embedded right below.

Update: Well it looks like there are at least 2 different functions for the bottom screen. While boss art and pics of Zero still look like they’re purely aesthetic, there’s another interesting thing shown. Protodude has pointed out on his blog that the other menu looks like Zero 3′s e-modification card menu.

“The Rockman Zero modification cards were cards sold exclusively in Japan in 2004, and when used with Nintendo’s e-Reader device, they would make minor modifications to Rockman Zero’s 3 gameplay. To accommodate for the lack of an e-Reader, Zero Collection looks to be implementing this system within the game itself. ‘Course, this is just speculation, so don’t take my word for it.” -Protodude

Very interesting indeed. A feature predicted by our own LBD “Nytetrayn”.

It can be found in its entirety here.

Well, here’s a pleasant little surprise. While I was checking out the updates for OverClocked ReMix’s 10th anniversary, I made an interesting discovery. One of the ten remixes posted in honor of the occasion was none other than a Cut Man remix by OCR veteran, ilp0, entitled “Cutman’s Lullaby“.

While a lone remix from a Mega Man game isn’t exactly news, what was far more interesting is what I found next. As it turns out, “Cutman’s Lullaby” is actually part of a bigger project: an arrange album of the entire soundtrack to the first Mega Man game.

The album is finished and available for free download right now. The arrangements, while not particularly high energy for the most part, are pretty unique. ilp0′s work is very polished and some of the tracks even flow into each other. The style of it actually has a bit of an Alph Lyla (or one of its many other spellings) vibe to it.

So what are you waiting for? Head on over to the album’s site and grab it!

While the contents of the book seem very promising, the cover feels a bit underwhelming; especially when compared to the covers of all the previous Official Complete Works books. Why they went with such a plain design when there is so much great existing art from the series to work with is anyone’s guess.

While it seems many of us have already tried out most of the game in 2001, there will be a little new content shown at the event. No, not a new gameplay feature. Instead, I refer to a limited edition coffee mug featuring the promotional art we’ve seen so many times through the course of the game’s development.

While the mug is currently exclusive to the Japan-only event, don’t be too surprised if these pop up online later.

A Persona 3 action figure here, a Lego Star Destroyer there; these things are common place. However, the newest thing to come into my building was a little more special.

A good friend and coworker of mine decided to build a life-size servbot to go along with someone else’s Tron Bonne cosplay. To make it, he used a combination of cardboard, acrylic paint, posterboard, a ping pong ball, and foam shapes (the kind often found in arts and crafts stores) with a little duct tape, rubber cement, and silicon adhesive to hold it all together.

It turned out not too shabby! You can see a close up photo here.
