Price Glitch Affects UDON Books, but Should Be Cleared Up Soon

Last weekend, Amazon and other online book retailers began offering books like Mega Man Official Complete Works for the cutthroat price of $14.99. A pretty good deal, but not a deal that was intended to happen. And while Amazon honored the orders at first, it seems that may not be the case anymore. Staffer Maverick-Jin was e-mailed this morning by Amazon to be told his order for Mega Man Megamix Vol. 1 and Mega Man Official Complete Works was canceled, citing lack of stock and offering him a $25 gift card for the trouble. And sure enough, only stock from Amazon’s third party sellers is available as of now.

We inquired to UDON Entertainment’s Matt Moylan as to the situation, and here is what he tells us. First of all, Matt assures that the books are not out of stock, and they still have a few months supply of both MM and MMX Official Complete Works, as well as Megamix Vol. 1. The source of the problem appears to be with the distributor, Diamond Distributors. Once this glitch had been realized, Amazon put a hold on all products managed by Diamond, which besides UDON includes publishers such as Marvel and Dark Horse. While UDON has no control over the matter, Matt suspects the issue will be worked out in the next couple of days, and asks for the patience of us fans.

Additionally, Matt also offered up some good news. Mega Man Zero Official Complete Works will be going back into print, and should arrive starting the first week of May, so those who may have missed the chance to grab it will get a new one. It sounds like there’s strong demand for Mega Man artbooks and comics!

As always, much thanks to Matt and UDON for the heads up.

Mob Robos Revealed: Get Your Magnifying Glasses Ready

You may remember, some months ago, Hitoshi Ariga held a “Mob Robo” contest for his upcoming comic Rockman Gigamix Vol. 2. Basically, Ariga accepted entries for throwaway characters created by fans, who would appear briefly in the comic and then get destroyed. Truth be told I kind of forgot about the contest, even after Gigamix 2 released in Japan a couple weeks ago. I was only reminded when my close friend AWD! giddily harassed me with the knowledge that one of his characters, Volt Man, got featured in the comic (pictured above).

Seeing the pages for myself, it appears Ariga did what he could to cram as many entries as possible into the pages. There are quite a few, and I’ve already found characters created by a couple other friends of mine. So if you entered a design, there may be good odds yours made it too. And that’s what I’m here to let you check. Below are the pages that contain all the Mob Robo ideas Ariga accepted. Be warned that they open up to HUGE images. Then you just need to get to browsing, and hopefully you’ll see your character!

Additionally, some original entries were also printed inside the book’s back cover, so I’ll share that as well.

Now the next thing you need to do is beg Capcom and UDON to get Rockman Gigamix published here in North America!

Many thanks to AWD!

Fan-Made Mega Man 9 HD Remix

For those out there who bemoan the 8-bit retro chic look of Mega Man 9 and 10, I’d just like to point this out to you: it could be worse. Of course I don’t mean to disparage the work of Eric Ruth, the man behind this fan-made HD remake of Mega Man 9, and also known for doing an 8-bit rendition of Left 4 Dead (I’m starting to see a theme here). Having watched the video, I can attest this is a pretty skillfully made recreation of Galaxy Man’s stage.

Eric is not planning on finishing this project, having concern about legal repercussions from Capcom. I don’t see too much of an issue, although I think Mega Man 9 is pretty much fine the way it is. But I know there are those who want it in HD regardless. Of course to be truly HD, it’d need a lot more cut scenes.

Capcom of Japan Announces “Rockman 10 Image Soundtrack”

The merchandise just keeps coming. We have the Rockman 10 Original Soundtrack coming the 23rd of this month, but many have also been hoping for an arranged album. The Rockman 10 Image Soundtrack appears to be just that, containing 21 arranged tracks from Rockman 10.

Along with all the people who worked on the Rockman 10 musical score, the album will also feature work by Masato Koda (Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry), Yoshino Aoki (Mega Man Battle Network, Mega Man Star Force), Saori Utsumu (Mega Man Xtreme), and Seiko Kobuchi (Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X).

There will also be two vocal arranged tracks. The ending theme, titled “LAST EXIT” as written and sung by Tohru Itoga. The other is a special track written by Hitoshi Ariga, and performed by DigitalSPicyDuck with Tohru Itoga. The album will also contain drama tracks with the voices of Dr. Light and Dr. Wily. And like the Rockman Zero albums, this album will feature the guitar work of Tsutomu Kurihara and Masaki Suzuki, and violin work by Yuko Tokushima.

The album releases on April 30th for ¥3,000 (roughly $33.62 US). It will come with a 28 page full color booklet.

Capcom of Japan Begins Rockman 10 Package Design Contest

March 4, 2010 by Heat Man

Mega Man 10 may very well be the most “contested” Mega Man game ever. Capcom of Japan has just announced their own Rockman 10 contest: create a package design for Rockman 10, provided it actually came in a box. I’d always wondered why Capcom of Japan wasn’t revealing their own package art for the game (as they did with Rockman 9), and it seems this is the reason.

Designs can be made in either in landscape “Rockman” format, or portrait “Mega Man” format. Images must be 300dpi, stay within 2MB and be saved in JPG, GIF or PNG format. The contest page gives specific layout details for the required image dimensions, including the border area. Submissions will be sent to Capcom via e-mail with the title ロックマン10のパッケージイラストを描いてみた コンテスト (Rockman 10 package illustration contest).

What will become of the design chosen as the winner? Well, it will be used to make an actual package, albeit for what purpose I’m not entirely sure.

There are some additional things to note. All entries will be uploaded to Niconico Seiga, and become materials on Niconi Commons. Furthermore, entries will become property of Capcom of Japan.  Because of this, you may not submit an illustration that has already been submitted to another contest. Only the creator of the illustration may enter on his or her own behalf. Do not enter multiple works at the same time. Finally, if you are younger than 16 you need your parents’ permission to enter.

While this may seem like a Japan only thing, a blog post on the Rockman 10 homepage by assistant producer Akiko Ito states she wants to see many entries from not just Japan, but from abroad as well, making it both a Rockman and Mega Man contest. I’d presume then that official guidelines will be presented on our side soon.

Well, better get drawing!

Edit: Actually, the English instructions appear to be right here!

Edit 2: Capcom Unity is pitching in to help out as well. Find out how by clicking here.

Famitsu Reveals Bass in Mega Man 10 (Updated)

If you ever wondered what Bass would look like drawn in classic Mega Man style, your thoughts have been answered. Famitsu has officially unveiled images and screens pertaining to the Bass Mode DLC, coming in April (though the release for Japan is as of yet unconfirmed). A fairly surprising reveal, as we in the West have been receiving all the news updates, and the game itself, in advance. Bass will contain the abilities to dash and fire shots in seven directions.

Update: Capcom of America has put out there own press release and assets on Bass. We’ll be adding the high quality images to our gallery. Press release below:

We are pleased to announce during this week’s Mega Man 10 launch that the rumors are true! Mega Man 10 does indeed have an additional character you can play as, and that character is Bass! On April 5 th, users can download Bass for 200 Wii points.

Dr. Wily designed Bass with Mega Man’s abilities in mind. Of course there’s a bitter rivalry between the two, although Bass will help Mega Man out if he sees a benefit for himself.

Bass uses a weapon called the Bass Buster, which is a lot like the Mega Buster except that it fires faster and can fire upwards and diagonally (7 directions in all). He can also use the Bass Buster to shoot-down enemy attacks!  He uses dash to avoid enemy advances. He can also copy the weapons of the bosses in the game after defeating them, just like Mega Man can.  When he combines with his robotic canine pal Treble, he can fly and shoot more powerful projectiles with his buster.
