At the beginning of January, Archie Comics teamed with Capcom Unity to announce its “Rock of Ages” fan art contest. The time for submissions has come and gone, and standing in the contest’s wake are its winners, which you can see in the image above, in Mega Man #23, or in high-resolution over at Capcom Unity. Congratulations to the winners!

I’m making sure that when I get my hands on Mega Man #23, I’ll take a look at it for sure! ^_^ Congrats to ALL the winners.

  2. erikthered says:

at least an Erik won! but um… is that a right hand on his left arm?

but seriously, how the hell did that one by Mileah make it to runner up? All of those honorable mentions are way better! seriously, it looks like a 9 year old drew that! I’d hate to see the ones that didn’t make it to runner up!

  3. ForcedUser says:

It’s pretty likely that IS something drawn by a 9 year old. Odds are, though they did choose to go with what I’m assuming was an older artist for the grand prize, they included the younger readers as well, which I think is pretty cool.

After all, this is a comic aimed at all ages.

  4. Neowulf says:

Woulda entered, but the description said the work would have become property of Archie Comics, so no.

  5. Phaelin says:

That was a nice display in #23! Congrats to the winners!

And come on, kids deserve some credit for their work. “Runner Up” and “Honorable Mention” are all less that first place anyway so who cares?

  6. erikthered says:

yeah, kids deserve credit for their work… but y’know a 9 year old could also have drawn the winner, they shouldn’t judge by how good someone is for their age, but compare it to the quality of the other works, regardless of the age of the artist.

I mean, it’s not awful, but it isn’t really all that good either.

  7. Bandit says:

@erikthered I think it IS a left hand unless his hand is unnaturally curving upwards. Looking at the entries I kind of regret not entering now but I chose not to for the property thing too.

  8. erikthered says:

@bandit the thumb is on the wrong side to be a left hand..
