Rockman on its Way to Becoming a Notebook Computer

rockbook

We’ve had a lot of really interesting Rockman merchandise coming from Japan in the past few years. Figures, soundtracks, mugs, cushions, keychains, clothing, and slightly provocative puzzles to name a few. And now it seems Rockman‘s next ambition is to become… a computer.

Ucchy-san of Rockman Unity has announced the Rockman Ultrabook Product Project, which is asking for user input in creating a Rockman themed Ultrabook. Users may vote on the polls once per day. Right now there is a poll concerning what kind of design will be featured on the Ultrabook’s case, including an option for your own suggestion. Simply select the design you want, select your age range and gender, and submit. Two more polls will be opened in the following weeks.

When the final specifications are set, the Rockman Ultrabook will go on preorder March 29th. Preorders will end in May, and the notebooks will ship in July. The Ultrabook promises a third generation CPU that reduces energy consumption, a 14.1″ non-glare LCD monitor, a solid-state drive for storage, and a 19mm thin form that weighs 1.67kg. Other specs and the price point are currently unknown.

Guessing it’s really unlikely these are going to make their way out of Japan. I wouldn’t worry much, though. Japanese keyboards are kind of weird.

  1. Let’s submit some Rockman DASH designs. Maybe they’ll get the hint.

  2. Heat Man says:

@Cleavland Rock: Buy this $2500 notebook and we’ll consider restarting the Mega Man Legends 3 Project!!

  3. RayZX says:

oh no no no no no, i hate this i really hate this idea!!
to think it is a laptop, just for megaman, i must resist…
    too expensive

  4. Aaron says:

    @Heat: Which option is Male?

Neat idea, really. But I think a $20 laptop decal would be a better investment. Or maybe a Mega Man shaped tower pc…

  5. Heat Man says:

@Aaron: The top, if I recall correctly. 男

  6. tornado man says:

Must resist urge to buy. Must make custom on my own. Dont need ultrabook. Nnnnngggggg.

  7. Heat Man says:

Just for reference, here is a typical Japanese keyboard: https://twitter.com/themmnetwork/status/306276986542776320/photo/1

It’s not terribly different, but the positioning of the symbols would probably throw you off a bit. If you ever see someone using 7s for apostrophes, they’re probably using a Japanese keyboard. Or they’re just leet.

  8. undamned says:

I’ll slap some stickers on my laptop, thanks. O_o

  9. RayZX says:

@Heat Man: yeah, my girlfriend got one JAP Laptop too, and its a bit frustrating sometimes when looking for the right combination buttons

@Aaron: yeah it should be a decal or a sticker just like undamned told.

not gonna throw money on my screen this time, its not even worth it, you can easily pre-made decals for PCs and will not worth 2000$+

  10. ZeroX_Syaoran says:

    Slightly provocative? XD

  11. rockman says:

What a weird thing to do….

  12. bearmon2010 says:

No thanks.. Please make Rockman games. It is useless.

  13. Soaring Buster says:

Surprised their throwing in an SSD, but otherwise, yeah, still no point to themed laptops when they’ll be noticeably more expensive than normal models for no reason- but since these don’t look to be built for gaming this may prove an exception.

Now, official decals would be nice.

  14. Gaia says:

Eeeeehh.. Knowing that the moe moe kawaii one will win anyway (given how popular Roll is), and the price tag, I’d rather decorate my PC with a bunch of Rockman-themed stickers.

Aaaand since it’s on a japanese OS, It’ll be a bitch to adjust to.

  15. Jimmy says:

@Gaia: Well, the latest versions of Windows allow you to install any language pack easily. So the OS language shouldn’t be that big of a deal.

  16. HeatPhoenix says:

If you’re never going to buy one, why bother voting?
Leave the voting to the people who would actually buy one of these, that’s who this poll is for anyway.

  17. Airman says:

Wouldn’t it make more sense to put a Battle Network cover on the laptop?

  18. BATTLE NETWORK says:

Make a megaman battle network case 1-6 logo, forms, and bosses I think you would sell allot with those I would buy one

  19. Seraph Man says:

Aren’t they doing something similar with a Sega Laptop? 4 decals, one generic Sega-Blue, one that looks like the Genesis, one that looks like a Dreamcast, and another which eludes me (Saturn?).
