Ahahah, poor Ice Man, forever Friendzoned.

    Or would that be “Bro-Zoned”?

  2. yo man! thats ur sister man! freakin robo-incest man!

  3. Magnificent Sasquatch says:

Okay, guys? Before we go onto the whole “Brother-Sister” rant, we ought to recognize that…really, they aren’t. Like, at all.

Rock and Roll were created for the purpose of being Dr. Light’s surrogate “children” under the designation of being his assistants. For this reason, they can be called siblings. The first Robot Master series, however, is a whole other ballgame. They were designed and built with completely separate purposes in mind. It’s not that Dr. Light built Rock and Roll that makes them his kids, it’s that they were made FOR that. The others more or less exist under the corporate umbrella and Dr. Light himself happened to build them.

Really, Rock and Roll weren’t even originally that themselves; it was just our imposing western view of “they MUST be considered siblings” and eventually it seems the series itself, pardon the pun, rolled with it. Still, that doesn’t mean we can force this unsupported assumption onto every subject and character.

  4. DuoDynamo says:

    Wait
    aren’t they
    like
    brothers?

  5. Erico says:

All right, that’s one less panel to worry about…Looks like I’ll be getting this issue tomorrow or Monday then.

On a side note, from the preview, gotta say–I’m finding how Archie’s portraying Rock himself pretty interesting. It’s been said he’s supposed to have a personality akin to Dr. Light’s, and between his jovial nature when they arrive at Ice Man’s territory combined with his childlike wonder at Tempo’s accomplishment, well…he really DOES seem like a young Dr. Light. Kudos to them, it works out pretty smoothly, in my opinion.

  7. RandyPandy says:

Got this in the mail yesterday. xD Poor, poor Ice Man. I have my own thoughts on the “robo-incest”, but I won’t comment on it.

  8. ElitePrime100 says:

I just gotta say how the comic ads in the ‘date cancelled’ scene really killed the serious mood. Way to be smooth with the ads intrusion Archie.

  9. I figured it was more a matter of Blues, Rock, and Roll being built off the same basic template…

  10. Tony Ponce says:

Not necessarily just a Western view. I know that in the Ariga manga the Light numbers frequently refer to one another as siblings, including Rock and Roll. And likewise Ice Man’s infatuation with Roll was lightly touched upon in the Battle & Chase story.

  11. Roll is so going to troll the crap out of Ice Man. Watch and see.

  12. Phaelin says:

Ah! I just noticed the “Wanted: Mr. X” poster in the preview! Nice! XD

  13. Magnificent Sasquatch says:

True, but that was the localization team doing that years following the initial volumes’ release. Some editorial changes were probably made to help keep the manga relevant as possible to our usual view of the series.

    Poor, poor Iceman…

  15. Kami_sama_no_Otaku says:

All the “Robot Master” characters are… robots. Frankly the fact
they were programmed (or developed on their own) “romantic interests” is already an issue of its self.

Incest is a serious subject, and most people erroneously focus on the increased likelihood of offspring possessing genetic defects, ignoring that isn’t the only reason it is considered wrong (if that was a reason at all). The relationship is almost always predatory and is always unhealthy, because it twists natural, familial affection into something it isn’t. If there is an exception, it is the infamous “grew up separate, don’t know they are related” angle that some like to pitch.

If we go with “robot love” to begin with, the question becomes if the Robot Masters made by Light can be considered “related” in the emotional or psychological sense, and if so how closely? Rock, Roll, and Blues seem closely related in that sense, but the others probably are no closer than cousins.

  16. Heat Man says:

These are some of the worst Robot Master concepts ever.

  17. TuxedoMoroboshi says:

Even then, the Ariga version of Ice Man only looked up to Roll, rather than having any sort of romantic infatuation. It was completely platonic there. So, really, it seems that “romance among Light bots” as well as “familial ties” differs more by author than by region.

  18. funny at dr. lalinde’s arm

  19. James Kensel says:

    Oh brudder, a valentine’s thing?!

I don’t mind the brother/sister thing, it’s technically not true, it’s just pretty awkward.

  20. I love the mention of Fahran from the two cops. Makes me wonder if a Classic version of Fahran will make a cameo at some point.

    Ouch. Poor Ice Man.
