Watch X Kick Ass and Take Names in this Fan Movie

Those who think X was getting a little too “wussy” in his later games may want to take a look at this. In honor of Mega Man‘s 25th anniversary, Shane Newville brings us this amazingly made short animation of the Maverick Hunter getting down to business and rescuing his friend Zero. With how much X ordinarily shoots at things from afar, I bet you never expected he was a black belt in trashing punks!

Thanks to Mugen Wing (and everyone else!) for the tip!

Cool, I guess. But very un-Mega Man if I’m allowed to be nitpicky.

  2. disqus_9kCYTmIZbF says:

Awesome! I always imagined this is what the fighting scenes would look like in a Megaman X anime or something.

  3. Looks like X beat KOS-MOS and took her power before this video.

That video was pretty dang rad. It’s always fun seeing these characters move and act as badass as you know they can when not confined to game rules. Makes me want an anime that much more!

  4. Heat Man says:

This may not be how X usually fights, but it’s how I feel when I’m playing the games!

  5. HeatPhoenix says:

Including the dubstep? I really hope not.

  6. thehivemind33 says:

Pretty cool…the dubstep was pretty out of place though.

  7. Ralene says:

It was pretty neat to see X go all out and pull out some weaponry we really haven’t seen since Command Mission. Bonus points for the underused styles of X8 as well. Just goes to show that even the pacifist characters can really pull out all the stops when it comes down to it!

  8. I wish it wasn’t the models from X8, and that the music was less generic (something from the games would be nice =P) but other than that, it was very fun and well made =D

  9. Omar says:

This is pretty dang cool! The childhood me would be squealing in excitement.

  10. HEZ says:

X8 models are just keeping up with the times. When X first came out beefcake anime like Dragon Ball were big, now its all about being all nimble and ninja-y… if that’s a word. I think they’re the best designs in the series (apart from the back of Zeros helmet :S) Uh… anyway, cool vid!

  11. nexilis says:

Seeing as how Breath of Fire 5 uses the same graphics and art style, I want to see a fan made crossover of X and Ryu! Just to show support for both.

  12. HeatPhoenix says:

    X8 was 2004 though.

  13. digitallyfanged says:

    Holy shazbot, that’s awesome.
It’s like MMX and Casshern mixed. *joygasms*

  14. Ralene says:

    I love how you think!

  15. Disgruntled Ferret says:

Pfff, X has been known to mix it up with the martial arts taught to him by Dr. Light every now and then.

  16. Rockman says:

    Kun-fu X the movie.

  17. Gabriel Yami says:

Awesome!!! this is a aniversary video for X and megaman universe!!! X is really badass

  18. HEZ says:

Man, time flies… been far too long since the last X game! Anyway, anime style’s been on that track for a while now, big muscled guys (or chunky robots) just aren’t as common.

  19. Scott Rempel says:

Axl at the end. Eh we’ll save him later, maybe.

  20. You say that, but Irregular Hunter X went back to the more traditional style XD

  21. DarkHackerExE says:

X, fighting like that? NO WAY O.O! (Cool Video)

  22. …man, it was awesome. By the end of the video I was thinking “please, don’t end now…”…

…it’s really cool watch X making it close and personal, he’s a S-class Hunter after all. And the X8 models were a perfect choice in my opinion, they’re really nice “in action”. I really hope Shane make more of this awesome shorts!

  23. Magnificent Sasquatch says:

“Oh, but X can’t fight liek that! Nowai, so fake.”

…Erm. Actually? Taking into account what we know about X, he’s actually VERY capable of fighting like this. Superhuman strength, agility, vision, and reflexes, for starters. He’s been with the world’s foremost law enforcement for decades past X8. He served under Sigma, then under Zero. And let us remember that both of these figures are /extremely/ capable in close-quarters combat.

Finally, the kicker? Let us remember what makes X great is his ability to evolve indefinitely; physically, mentally and emotionally. He could probably pick up master-level martial arts in a matter of months.

So…yeah. XD I see this as using X to his, pardon the upcoming pun, fullest potential. In gameplay, we jump in shoot. The character himself? He can do so much more.

  24. someone says:

Which Maverick did X need to defeat to get that weapon?!

  25. JJ says:

I think if Capcom were to ever reboot the MMX series or make a new entry in the entire franchise, maybe they could include some martial arts into his arsenal. Almost DMC-style (notice I did not say DmC-style for those who do not like the new game) would be neat to include.

  26. Ash Paulsen says:

Pretty much the greatest thing I’ve ever seen. Whoever made this is one of the few Mega Man fans who understand how truly badass and limitlessly powerful X actually is. Zero can take a seat. (Which he did, after X knocked him out. As it should be.)

  27. erikthered says:

so… essentially, devil may cry with mega man skins…

  28. erikthered says:

    lack of shoryuken is disappointing

  29. Brian Grissom says:

Yeah, because robots and electronic music totally don’t go together.

  30. HeatPhoenix says:

Command Mission, Maverick Hunter X, the D-Arts, Xover.

    Nope. X8 was just, ugh.

  31. HeatPhoenix says:

Only the school of the undefeated of the east, if you know what I mean.

  32. TheD0ct0r says:

Pretty good. It makes me wish CoJ would get off its rear end and make a new X game.

  33. AquaTeamV3 says:

Yeah, the close-range buster shots and dash being used offensively were pretty creative. Unfortunately if you try that in the games you’ll take collision damage. :P

  34. If X didn’t want to blow anyone up, he probably could’ve snuck in. But then we would’ve had a very different video.

Also, if X is willing to kill to save a friend, then he must already understand the value of decisive action. To do otherwise would have been to court failure or, like you said, suicide. Unless there was a back door in …

  35. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

I thinks its cool a little Un X like ,but you know what? That damn close range lemon shots are amazing!

  36. Magnificent Sasquatch says:

Well, that was at the beginning of the series, as Maverick Hunter X reiterated. Around X4, X was the captain of the 17th Unit. As of Command Mission, however, Axl refers to them all in-game as the “three S-Class Hunters”. Take into account that X had pretty much caught up to Zero by X5, as inferred by their tied battle, and who knows how long between X8 and Command Mission? Axl may very well have caught up to them in that time, and with his abilities it’s not too surprising.

    …But I ramble. :P Hope that clarifies.

  37. SeekerLancer says:

Now I’m just really sad that there’s no Mega Man X anime series.

    Also 4:48… MORE DAKKA!

  38. HeatPhoenix says:

Because in a discussion playing your opponent off to be an idiot makes your point stronger, correct? No.

This video is pretty those flash stickmen animations you used to watch on newgrounds with Super Mario World sprites superimposed over them, but in 3D. Cute, but hardly accurate.

  39. …exactly. X starts as a B-Class, but around the fourth game, he was already captain of the 17th Unit, and probably a S-Class Hunter already (unfortunately I can’t remember any dialogue about it before X7 and Command Mission, when he was already stated as a S-Class Hunter)…

  40. …totally agree. We can’t put gameplay mechanics and character’s possibilities in the same bag. Just remember that on X3 Zero wasn’t the swordmaster he is nowadays (talking about the gameplay), but were S-Class and close-combat expert already. They’re two different stuff, and people keep mixing up these two things…
