Bandai on X vs. Legends and More
When chatting on the Preorder66 podcast (18:50 in), Bandai’s Adam Nemwman said that the company had believed that there was a tremendous demand for Mega Man Legends, with Facebook voters specifically calling for MegaMan Volnutt and Tron Bonne, but their poll at the 2012 New York Comic-Con told them another story. There, he says, response more strongly favored Mega Man X. He adds that the company still wants to do Legends, but that for now, those plans will have to be delayed.
For what it’s worth, they say they still want feedback on Facebook, though we can understand how a statement such as the one above might make some skeptical. However, Nemwman also pointed out that their Mega Man products make up 80 percent of Tamashii’s sales in the U.S. alone– stronger here than in Japan, no less– so that might give them plenty of reason to pay attention to that Facebook feedback.
Finally (for the Mega Man stuff, at least), they’re still undecided about releasing the Sigma D-Arts mock-up they showed off at the San Diego Comic-Con. They know people want to see him in fully-articulated glory, but they’re still working out the finer mechanical points to see if they can do just that.

considering how X came way before legends, much more iconic for the series, it is not that surprising if there are more people demanding X series figurines
Licensing right aside, Revoltech’s joint system would work almost seamlessly with the DASH series’ general joint designs.
Bah a figure is a figure as long as something other than Megaman X, Zero and Vile again. I see no problem either way because figures are awesome none the less and always nice in good display.
I’d like to see a figure of Tron in the Gustaff. We need one of those.
“They know people want to see him in fully-articulated glory, but they’re still working out the finer mechanical points to see if they can do just that.”
Yes we do. The time spent working out articulation will only benefit the figure. As a side note, that Sigma mockup is shreaded. His abs are ridiculous. No wonder he was able to best Maverick Zero.
@lumine1412: According to a friend of mine who went to NYCC, there weren’t that many “visible” MM fans there. If you weren’t an MM fan and you saw Bandai’s X display, you might be more likely to vote for X.
We certainly need more classic characters!
@Acrosurge: He calls those his “Sub-Tanks.”
SIGMAAAAAA >:C
I’ll take Sigma or Trigger, but DAYUM Sigma would be the best thing ever. I’d probably get a locked glass case for him.
Sorry guys, But I’m ok with them just making more MMX figures, they rock… I want that Freaking Sigma (Come on, D-arts! You can do it, just make the cape form cloth and the rest will be easy!) I also would like more Armors for X and more side characteres like Vile.
Eh… I’m not bitter.
@LBD: Ahahahaha.
As for releasing Sigma… I wonder if they fear that the “villain always gets picked last” tendency that I’ve seen at toy stores will follow with the Sigma figure.
Well I hope Sigma is still very much in the works and not just a side project. X needs someone to fight after blasting through Vile!
I WIN!!!
I’d rather Volnutt get a turn but if Sigma is next in line, I demand we skip light sabre Sig and jump straight to Grim Reaper.
Funny how they chose based off of a small gathering rather than off a poll that was held where everyone could put in input. A figure isnt just a figure its money spent. I would much rather have them make a figure for something that does not have that many products floating around rather than churning out the same few games characters to the point there the collection is just x and classic. Then they ask for more feedback after you just ignored the majorities opinions thats just lol.
So far I have no D-arts, if they made Sigma… I’d get all 4 characters. I’d rather have a more complete set first before Legends characters come out.
@Why
You gotta also understand Trigger was heavily advertised by 100k Strong (a Facebook gathering), also Legends was a hot topic on the internet (especially in the Mega Man community) around that time. The other thing is Facebook can be a small gathering, if for one thing the proper audience doesn’t get any notification of any particular activity taking place, and at times some simply don’t use Facebook. Also there is no question, if your banking on reliable income based on history, the best bet for a company would be to go with X series rather than Legends, especially when the subject is mass production with a casual market in mind…
@RedRaizer: I said it before, and I’ll say it again. The people who wanted more votes for Sigma instead of Volnutt should have spread the word about the poll to other like-minded individuals if the “heavy advertising” is the issue.
I suppose more people would know Sigma than Trigger, though. It’d be like “Who’s this helmetless Megaman rip-off lookin’ dude??”
Sigmaaa ;_; Want!
I think someone on Protodude’s site said it best. To paraphrase:
With a Facebook poll, you don’t know who’s voting. For all they know, it could be a bunch of kids who rely on their parents AKA an outside income AKA not a ‘guaranteed purchase’.
With a convention, it’s young adults/adults whom have paid to get there, have money, and said pretty much “I want this product and I can afford to buy”. So, I think that’s why the convention gets a weightier vote. I know when I was hanging around the Bandai booth at Otakon, he asked me what I thought, what line I would buy. (of course, I was like SIGMA. SIGGGMMAAA)
I also read somewhere (might have been their facebook) they were still looking into the Legends licensure. But, if our time with UDON has taught us anything, Capcom’s notttt exactly speedy at these sort of things anyways.
Hmm….vile figure = appearance in capcom/bandai game. Sigma figure = ……….meh.. probably nothing.
HEZ, I can agree with that point there, X has a MUCH BIGGER CASTE, so it makes more sense to finish something up.
Did it ever occur to anyone that Classic and X fans have commercially backed reasons to be attending these conventions (both from Bluefin themselves and from Archie), while Legends fans do not?
Folks, not everyone can fly across the world just so they can attend to a convention to press a button. I certainly couldn’t attend to this year’s New York ComiCon, due to my job taking priority above all else & how money was tight for me right now. So exactly how can we tell them that there is an audience that has the desire to purchase & own their very own Mega Man Volnutt figurine, which will have the same amount of care & polish that the rest of the D-Arts figurines have gotten?
Any suggestions are welcome, but please keep the rude & sarcastic comments at bay, please.
Chillax y’all. We’re just trying to scope out their reasons logically. That’s the only one I can come up with.
Another thought though I just had: Bandai HAS put out Legends figures before, eons ago, when I was a kid. It was a snap together model *pats her Mega Man on the head* Maybe they’re hesitant based on sales from way back when. I know the Classic and X ones were all over the place, but the few Legends were rare. Maybe they didn’t sell well?
@Tabby: I absolutely hate it when companies use decades-old sales numbers to try to justify their decisions in the here and now.
I mean, you’re probably right– that’s the very reason we don’t have Legends 3 already– but I still hate it when they seem to only consider that the relevant sales data, especially now in the age of the internet when things– games included– can develop a following long after their initial heyday.
JUST CONTINUE WITH THE X SERIES AND MAKE SOME MAVERICKS ALREADY, SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
