I was just recently playing MM4 for the first time in like a decade and i realized that Skull Man’s music was actually pretty darn good, i didn’t remember any of the music from MM4 being good at all so that was a pleasant surprise. I would prefer the Rock album.
I find a lot of people tend to push Mega Man 8 away, and it has often become the butt of jokes. I feel this is a great shame, as it is an amazing game, with vibrant environments, great gameplay, fantastic boss designs, and an overall great soundtrack. Mega Man 8 goes in a different direction to what most people expect out of Mega Man in general. 8 has a calm and soothing jazz soundtrack, and every song is distinct and memorable. Overall, I think a very under appreciated track is Astro Man. It’s one of the more hectic tunes compared to Frost Man or Aqua Man, but it has a great, “out-of-this-world” charm to it. But, it is a song that really complements its boss; it builds up, but shies away when it nearly hits a climax. There are several great tracks on 8, but Astro Man finally won out for me.
Assuming I win, and I’m up against some great competition by the looks of it, I would like the Rock soundtrack.
The Snakeman theme used to really bug me. I found it more repetitive than most other Mega Man songs, and I always start with Snakeman when I play MM3. But after listening to the Megas remix of it, I really started digging it. Mega Man 3 is full of awesome music.
And I would prefer the Rock album!
I’ve always loved the title theme from Mega Man 6. While I never cared for the game itself – and according to the Internet, neither do most fans – I swear to vouch for that song as one of the series’ best until the day I die. And even then, I’ll request in my will that my next-of-kin will take up my mantle in my steed. It’s just so heroic and energetic that one can’t NOT like it! Though it’s only 24 seconds, it manages to achieve awesome status in my opinion. And the Complete Works version… it’s just awesome. The Techno album wowed me with its stage select medley from the very start and never let go, so it’s definitely the better album in my eyes.
I wasn’t originally fond of the Ragnarok Control music in Mega Man Zero 4 – It sounded really off-note and weird to me when I first heard it – though, after listening to the remixed version of the song in the Rockman Zero Remastered Tracks, I have to say, it left a lasting impression on me. Nowadays when I play through that stage, I actually find myself rocking out to that music!
Dang, it’s amazing what a change of instruments can do to change your impressions of a song, lol.
Anyway, I’d prefer the Rock Album!
I would most certainly prefer the rock edition. Snake man’s song has always seemed under appreciated to me. It hasn’t gotten any love in album form and it ROCKS!
ZX is definitely under-appreciated, it has a ton of great songs, especially in the beginning areas. There’s also a ton of good songs from EXE and SF that nobody ever brings up, many which are remixes. I also kind of like the boss music in EXE: Transmissions.
I think I’d prefer the Techno album.
As for themes that grew on me, the winner is charge man’s theme. Today I missed the train and had to catch up with my group. When I finally sat down in the train to help me catch up I looked out of the window and thought, like the mega man-freak I am: “Don’t worry, Charge man’s got your back *plays charge man theme in his own head*”
MM8 Intro stage Baby!!! Techno!!!!! Up in here!!!!
Scratch and sniff, I left the the oven on yo…
Ma favourite song is Bubbleman’s theme, since it’s the first Megaman track I ever heard in my whole life, but I’d like to talk about an underrated favourite of mine : the Secret Area’s theme from Battle Network 3, it really fits the level, giving it it’s watery and mysterious aura, soothing yet unpredictable, and it’s a superb composition for a GBA piece of music, an all-time favourite for me that I still casually listen to.
From what I’ve heard, both albums sound great, I just love the blend of chiptune music and guitars/synths. I honestly don”t know which album I’d pick, maybe Rock because it contains more songs I actually know and appreciate.
Under-appreciated songs…..
I believe my all time favorite Mega Man song would be the most under-appreciated and that is the theme for Dr. Wily Stage 2 from Mega Man 2. The pitch of the melody starts low. Then as you progress through the stage the pitch increases adding a sense of tension, resembling your struggle and almost reaching the goal.
This is under-appreciated because of all the songs on the Mega Man 2 soundtrack, this is the one that is least covered by tribute bands or bedroom producers if it is even covered at all. I think I may have heard one remix of this in all of my years on the internet. If you do a search on Youtube you will not find anybody doing their own rendition of this song.
I think many people who have done renditions of Mega Man 2 music choose to ignore this song because it does not sound like a rock song and it is very repetitive.
I liked this song the first time I heard it. I think it is one of the best songs on the game because it gets you engaged in the action and matches the seriousness of the situation you are in.
(I choose the techno album)
In my opinion, one of the Mega Man songs I think is under-appreciated is Mega Man 5′s Wily Castle theme. I felt it always was overshadowed by other Wily songs (Mega Man 2′s in particular) and felt the song itself has a very sad tone to it, almost as if Wily himself had grown tired with the constant battles between him and Rock. And since the ending of 5 was meant to make the player think Wily died, this melancholic tone has some extra ‘oomph’ behind it, if one were to believe that the old doctor did get killed.
There are many castle themes that are overshadowed by Mega Man 2′s Dr. Wily Stage 1. There are many honorable mentions such as Dr. Cossack stage 2 from MM4, Dr Wily stage 1 from MM1 and Dark Man’s castle themes, but the one I have always felt deserved the most attention was Mr. X’s castle theme.
From the very moment I got to Mr. X’s castle and heard the majestic, dreamy music to the beautiful star filled sky with the moon shining above the city in the background, I fell in love instantly.
Mr. X’s theme goes against the stereotype of Mega Man castle themes being these high energy, adrenaline pumping themes that get you fired up. Mr. X’s theme instead swells up a since of closure, sadness and introspection to it that makes it rather appropriate to conclusion to the NES mega man games.
Beautiful is the strongest word I can think of when it comes to the song. It truly is a well crafted masterpiece of an 8 bit song to me. I just hope that one day, there will be more arrangements of it and especially those that recreate the emotions that the song has created for me.
Though the techno (Even though it seems to be more House and Trance) album has a remix, but not one that really captures the song, from what I can hear. So I’ll go with the Rock album.
A tune that’s under-appreciated? Hmm … What about that of the Amazon Area in Mega Man X6? The game was one of the worst in the series. This music is really impressive.
And I forgot … In the unlikely case that I win, I think I prefer the Techno album.
I feel “No Turning Back” from Mega Man 10 was an epic theme that was truly unappreciated. The epic feel of Mega Man having to stop Dr.Wily once again with so much stuff on his mind is exactly what that theme reflects to me. Hope some people appreciate it more!
ahhh * sigh * music … many feelings, sad, happy, together with other rare and many types of sounds that together make a great melody, and megaman fence must emphasize this, for the great music that accompanied him throughout his sagas; acquires more nothing great sentimental value that makes good song we hear imprint on us for life … in my case, the songs that have made me go joy with little action and are appreciated, the classic megaman Needleman remember the song which is very good but not many remixes of it, diveman (especially RMOCW4) has music as epic would have been a good idea to listen to the rock music. The issue had been a good idea Plantman for techno album.
In other series the songs that grew in me: Megaman Zero (2) remember the final stage (Elpizo) silver wolf, is so epic and I remember going on my GBA so listening to that song =) of the X saga yamark commander song is very relaxing and like forgetting the flute … and the saga EXE, I was the only game EXE 5, very cool! But the best was when I heard the song Chain of wish (ending) hope never end!
other songs that are not taken into account and grew on me while would Dombra Village (SF2), The Place You Must Return (SF1, Ending) Reform (DASH 1), Final Stage Willy station (MM IV for Gameboy ), and I prefer rock album!
There’s a good portion of the Mega man songs would apply but the most probably the Zero series is the greatest one who grew on me, certainly with the piano remixes of them.
I have to say, when I listen to music at school, there’s always Mega man songs, so over time they are almost all growing on me.
and my choice would probably be on techno
I guess I’d have to go with Chill Man’s theme. I pretty much hated it at first, but now I enjoy it quite a bit.
As much as I love the music in the Mega Man universe, I’m not a music guy in general, so it’s hard for me to think of any others. :/ These CDs look right up my alley though.
I’d have to say Skull Man’s level theme was one that had to grow on me. It wasn’t until I’d found a remix called Maximum Skullman on Kazaa one day that it’d clicked with me, though.
That rock album would be good, thanks.
I think the remastered version of the Sigma fight from X3 is underrated. The first fights song has an awesome drum that sounds kinda like a tribe getting ready for war. The second when you fight kaiser sigma just sounds so epic and final.
Most people didn’t really care for Battle Network 4&5, so the music probably doesn’t get much attention. However, I’ve always been fond of the main theme used in the games, especially the A Total War version that played during the last set of stages. At first, it was a little weird since it was the first time they changed the theme, but it didn’t take long for it to grow on me. Plus, I actually enjoyed the Colonel version of BN5, so I can still recall fondly that music picking up whenever things starting getting good in the plot.
And since you insist, I prefer Rock to Techno.
I feel that music from Ryuusei no Rockman 2 does not get much love. First of all, the Ryuusei no Rockman spinoff is pretty underrated to begin with, but the final games (Black Ace and Red Joker) hog the spotlight when it is remembered. While the gameplay might be the best for the third entry, I definitely feel that the second game had some of the best music. Overall, the first games setup a good atmosphere for what was to come, but the second really helped reached the pinnacle, as almost all the tracks not only fit well with the environments, they generally capture the intensity of the moment in-game. It also helps that a lot of the tracks a fun to listen to outside of the game. Just to name a few awesome tracks from the official album: Shooting Star(Ver.RR2), Roppondo Hills, Wave World, Sky Wave, Malevolent Geoglyph, Melody of Isolation, Prelude to Battle, Wave Battle, Confrontation with a God, Road to Victory, and Engraved Memories. If you haven’t given a listen to this soundtrack, it’s definitely worth a try.
As for the arranged album, either is fine. Free music is always great, especially moreso if it is Rockman. Thanks for hosting this cool giveaway. =)
