Check Out Destructoid’s Preview of Mega Man #18
Archie’s Mega Man #18 comes to solicitors this week, though I imagine a lot of subscribers likely have it by now. Nevertheless, if you’re presently without you can head over to Destructoid for a nice seven page preview of the issue. This issue wraps up the story of Proto Man’s origins, following his disheartened abandoning of Dr. Light at the end of the previous episode. Tony of Destructoid notes:
I’m amazed by how heartbreaking this issue turned out to be. Blues has no peer among robots, yet he doesn’t fit among humans either. All he can do is wander the Earth, seeking meaning in his existence. An innate sense of justice compels him to aid humans in need, though he never asks for anything in return.
Be sure to check it out! Thanks for the good word, Tony!

I wish these would come out faster.
While I’ve enjoyed the preview & I’m looking forward to picking up this issue, from what I’m going off of, I can…
Forget it. Cripes, this arc is depressing as ****.
aaaah… so sad… ;-; don’t die blues!
This issue was very touching. I think that it might be the best so far. Plus, it’s my personal favorite since my fan mail was printed in it(Dylan Strohl).
Wow, looks boss.
I can’t wait for it.
Dang. The writing is really just top-notch. I mean, look at that preview. It’s just so…. good at being depressing, it’s…. God, Ian is an amazing writer.
Majorly depressing. Now I really feel bad for Blues/Protoman.
@Will: Perhaps someday, the line will be big enough to support a spin-off like Sonic Universe, and we’ll get stories twice a month!
Hmm, “Mega Man Universe”… where have I heard that name before?
Hmm. The scans look a little off this month, like someone tried to stretch the size or something as the lines are definitely not even in spots.
Anyway, it’s a good issue. That much I can tell you guys.
I cannot wait for this to get here! D:
Words can not express how awesome this preview is.
A whole arc about Blues/Protoman, the doctors working together, even Wily on the good side.
What’s not to love?
Lol “Is this your car, sir or madam?”
Also, in one of those panels Protoman almost looks like he was drawn by Dashe Troxon, lol.
Oh, also, this is awesome!! I got chills at “If I maintain a low output” I was like… Oh…. so THAT’s why…
It was a great issue, but it’s cover art was super misleading.
It’s a shame. In the preview, you get a sense that, as Dr. Wily was clearly focused on gaining fame and glory even this far back, he still on some level understood and respected Dr. Light’s grief.
…Then he recieved no credit for the robot masters and turned on him. It creates a feel that perhaps Dr. Wily still respected Dr. light too much to do wrong by him back then, but took the lack of credit for the first numbers as more of an excuse to cling to in order to start his world domination scheme.
Then we come to the current issues, and Dr. Wily still, on a regular basis, credits Dr. Light for most of Mega Man’s victories. It’s almost as if he doesn’t want to be Dr. Light’s enemy per say, but feels an innate need to surpass him because, otherwise, he KNOWS he’s not the best.
And before you say “reading too deeply”, think about the topics this comic has touched base on, already. Really, to a degree, it’s for the younger audience only in art direction and basis; what really goes on in the pages is at a much deeper level.
Wait, does Blues totally save the Waynes or something in that last page? Is HE the reason there is no Batman in the Megaman universe?
Because if so, that is awesome.
Why does protoman has his buster and shades? Didnt wily give him those after he remodeled him into a combat robot long after he ran away?
@Pennzance
Blues IS Batman.
Wow. This is really heavy. I can’t wait to read the rest!
Did anybody catch Blues’s line referencing the GBD?
@Biatman
In #17 it’s explained that Dr. Light and Dr. Wily build him with the buster from scratch.
However, when showing his powers on the field to the military, everything got out of control.
Kinda different from the actual series but still cool stuff.
