R20 Art Book Getting Powered Up
R20: Rockman & Rockman X Official Complete Works (released in the west by UDON as separate volumes) is easily one of the best and most definitive art books for the Mega Man series. And in honor of Mega Man‘s 25th anniversary, it’s going to get republished with additional content as “R20: Revised Edition” (currently a tentative name).
To bolster the book’s contents, manga artists Hitoshi Ariga and Yoshihiro Iwamoto will be submitting special illustrations just for the book. Other additions are being planned, but will come to light at a later date. I’d wager that Mega Man 9 and 10‘s contents would likely be added, since they came out after the original “R20″ was published.
Additionally, a major Q&A for all Mega Man series artists is being prepped (which even includes Xover), and they want fans to contribute their questions. If you use Twitter, you can submit your questions with the hashtag “#R20増補” for consideration. You can submit as many as you like, but certainly not all of them can be addressed (and I doubt all your “why is Capcom killing Mega Man?” questions will be). The deadline for questions is October 11th at 1PM, Japan time.
With as awesome as the original R20 was, I can only hope they’ll add plenty more!

im looking forward for any sketches or additional random tibits of megaman 9 and 10!
Hah. While I am looking forward to this…I can’t shake the feeling that this seems familiar. Isn’t this what Capcom does to all their fighting games? XD
I must get this book. o.o Will we finally get some art of Ra Moon, Ra Thor, Honeywoman, etc?
And I’m guessing that this is at least part of whatever MM project Mr. Ariga is working on.
Interesting but is the X part of the book going to be updated with something too?.
Interesting. Glad I didn’t get around to getting the originals. Assuming this will be released in the US as well. I mean, sure it’s an ART book, but the commentary is very insightful.
But I don’t want to spend more money
Now this is something I can look forward to.
…Dang it! I just got Mega Man Official Complete Works less than 2 weeks ago. Makes me wonder why they’re planning on restocking X Official Complete Works. Any chance this upgrade will see a U.S. Release?
Hmm…it’s hard to justify when I own all five artbooks and the Robot Master guide, since it includes the Robot Masters from 9 and 10.
If the additional content is significant enough I’ll be picking it up anyway. I can’t say no to Mega Man anything. D:
Disappointment. I want a new games.. No more magazines or books!
Well at least so far there are no real incentives for me to get this book again outside of 9&10 art which I can find relatively easily.
Awesome sauce! I missed out on the original print and now I’m glad I did.
なぜカプコンがロックマンを殺してか?! #R20増補
Bearmon2010: What do you mean “no more magazines or books”? Just because we don’t have any games coming out (well, technically we do, but I won’t get into that…), doesn’t mean that everything else should stop getting released. It’s not an “all or nothing” deal, ya know. And some of us actually LIKE the other stuff that comes out.
Sounds interesting. I’ll go for it.
The X section could be updated with the new art from the cross over game, Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Tatsunoko vs Capcom stuff I suppose. More Iris art is always a good thing.
…dammit, TheRedPriest, you just gave me a reason to fall for Capcom’s books-are-the-new-fighting-games stunt.
Well another book to my collection is great. I learn a lot from these books.
@rockman: Probably to add special art for the X-side too, probably from Rockman Online and such.

A month ago “Megaman fans” were whining that Street Fighter got more anniversary goodies. Here’s a tissue for them.

@undamned: The SF fans still got more anniversary stuff.
And even if Capcom gives us more than just that overpriced CD collection, Xover, and R20+5 (the lattermost of which is one of the best things to come out of MM’s 25th), it’s hard to top that SFxT(?) tournament (the prizes for which I believe include a NEW CAR).
@ RADIX: Let me know when a tournament viable competitive Rockman game comes out.

Sweet. I hope they include more concept art.
@undamned: My point was that more care and effort was put into the SF anniversary celebration that will likely ever be put into MM’s.
On-topic, people have wondered why they couldn’t just release a separate art book, and while I’m still looking forward to the new stuff, I’m kinda worried–does this mean there won’t be that much “revising” going on?
I mean, yeah, MM9 and 10 probably wouldn’t be much of a book on their own, but there’s also SAR, RS-Megaman, Captain N, Novas Aventuras de Megaman, the Archie comic, those Artbox cards, various misc. bits of art that can be seen at the Reploid Research Lavatory–all of those things and more would probably be worth their own “Vol. 2″. RS-MM’s art alone could probably take up quite a few pages. And that’s not even getting into the stuff they could add in the X section/book.
So why are they going down the updated re-release route? Did they just forget that their books are not their fighting games?
“But I don’t want to spend more money
”
Amen.
I’d sure like to get my grubby mitts on a copy of this. Wouldn’t it make a great prize in MMN’s next contest, right? Right? Riiiiiiiiiiiiight?
Please let us know as soon as this comes out! I have to snatch this up this time.
