The Trademarks Continue – Capcom of Japan Grabs “ROCKMAN”
Last month, we reported the curious though otherwise unassuming story of Capcom registering a new trademark for “MEGA MAN” back in August. Now it seems that Capcom of Japan is following suit, having just registered the term “ROCKMAN” (in all Roman letters, and not in Japanese characters) among other reported trademarks. There are no details on what kind of products the trademark covers, and I’m not even certain how similar Japanese trademark regulation is compared to the US.
Similarly to what I thought about the trademark of “MEGA MAN,” there is speculation that “ROCKMAN” may just be related to Rockman Xover, but otherwise those reporting on the details seem to be curious as to what it could indicate. I wouldn’t say to get your hopes up, but… maybe just get your hopes up a little? A teensy bit?

Need wait and see….
“I wouldn’t say to get your hopes up, but… maybe just get your hopes up a little? A teensy bit?”
Not a chance, I’m done with being burned by this stupid company.
Time for **** reboot.
“…teensy bit?” LOL! Haha, Heat Man said teensy.
I’ll get my hopes up just a teensy bit so they can get just a teensy bit destroyed when the next game is either a **** social iOS game or a very promising game that gets cancelled for no reason.
Yeap. The only hope I have for Megaman right now is my 8-bit remake of MM1/MMPU.
“The only hope I have for Megaman right now is my 8-bit remake of MM1/MMPU”
…That’s just dumb.
@Maverick-jin8
That would be a good thing wouldn’t it?
OH CAPCOM DON’T YOU DARE. Don’t you DARE reboot this series and completely **** it up like you did DMC.
I bet you they’re just protecting the franchise from branching out to I dunno what or who. They know Mega Man can be a precious cash cow with the right games.
Just wait, but hope? Hm, i don’t have a IPhone and i don’t will get one. My feelings are that Xover reboots the franchise and keep it alive in form of a reboot of the original Megaman only on IOs.
But i pray that i´m wrong and Capcom surprises us all with a reboot on XBox360, PS3 or WII / WII U.
Naw, not gonna get my hopes up that easily. They’re probably only doing that for Xover, or just to merely renew the trademarks. This really does not mean much to me.
by some reason I feel fear, instead of curiosity to be honest …
I’ll get my hopes up when Capcom gives me a valid reason to do so.
In b4 megaman turns into a FPS.
Ooooooh I smell a reboot.This is exactly what happened with DmC.Register a trademark that is the same as the franchise name means one thing:Reboot.Now I know Sven said there are too many Mega Men.But he never said they won’t reboot the classic series.
…yeah, I got nothing.
I don’t know why they’re tying to reboot it (if that is what’s going on). They should just continue Powered Up and Maverick Hunter. I mean all of their work is done for them already. Just take the old game, make it prettier, add some flavor text with bosses or something and it’s done.
Bring on cigarette smoking, raging against the establishment Mega Man and his hardcore sunglasses. Don’t forget the curse-filled script.
Wild speculation time: The next game is an American-style third person shooter starring Bad Box Art Mega Man that plays like a cross between Vanquish and Mega Man Legends.
hmmmm…yeah i got nothing else…
I’m open for a reboot. A third-person shooter that plays like Transformers: WfC and FoC would be great, it just has to have an amazing story.
NOPE! Chuck testa!
Does this mean we might get a reboot of the X series? That would be a good place to start for Capcom.
I always have hope (see my posting icon), but Capcom has burned me so many times that even MY hope begins to wane. Still, one must always have hope for our favorite robot no matter what. I truly believe all will be well…
@ Hexmage:
I would totally buy that. Not joking, either.

“…maybe just get your hopes up a little? A teensy bit?”
NO!!! >:(
I no longer see any hope for the franchise as long as Capcom is calling the shots.
@heat man
Haha nice try. Ain’t hap’nin captain.
@Burst:
Ironically, MM8BDM was a FPS Doom/Quake mod.
just port Powered up to the wii, everyone has one collecting dust somewhere! they’re not expensive now, and it would work on that console… or port it to the Wii U, though I wouldn’t get it on that console, I’m done with nintendo wii stuff like I’m done with capcom.
unless they come up with something less… stupid, they get no money from me
Have hope? Not a chance. And like someone else said, I’m more worried than excited.
I’m pretty sure this means Inafune can’t obtain rights to his own franchise which essentially ruins any chances of Legends 3 or any more games from coming to fruition.
What a shame, which is why I’m calling that Capcom becomes bankrupt if RE6 and DmC bomb.
Now now little monkeys. We have to be obedient and “keep our expectations in check”…… Ugh *****ng Sven. Every time I think about that statement I just want to sock him and all the suits in charge of Crapcom in the damn face.
@Reiko
“What a shame, which is why I’m calling that Capcom becomes bankrupt if RE6 and DmC bomb.”
That’s exactly what I’m hoping for.
I’m more scared of the fact that I feel no emotion at all upon reading this.
I’m sure as heck not getting my hopes up anymore. I don’t dare, not after all the recent burns. For now, I’ll work on my own Mega Man projects and when Capcom actually comes out with something that isn’t just an iOS game, I might actually look at it.
I lost hope in the Rockman series, so I cannot expect anything good for now. I moved to Tetsuwan Atom who started over 60 years ago and still have lots of stories and remakes to check out.
