Tracy Yardley’s Mega Man Concept Art for Archie
For over a year now, we’ve seen a range of talents on Archie’s Mega Man comic book, from Patrick “Spaz” Spaziante to Chad Thomas to Ben Bates and more. But prior to that, while the book was still in its conceptual stages, another artist known well to those familiar with Archie’s other video game-based books, Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Universe, tried his hand at it as well.
Recently, a number of concept art sketches by Tracy Yardley were posted to Comic Art Fans. The style is certainly different from any we’ve seen in the book, and while it isn’t bad, we have to say that it probably isn’t quite one we’d really want to see at any great length in the book.
That isn’t a knock on Yardley as an artist, however; we love his renditions of Sonic and friends, and elsewhere in the gallery, he shines with several other video game concepts, including Super Mario Bros., Kirby, and Metroid. You can check them all out for yourself here.
Thanks for the tip, SonicBlueRanger!

While I don’t think his style works for the main comic, I do think it can work for the “short circuits” at the end.
I actually wouldn’t mind it. It’s a very neat style.
His style isn’t exactly what I think of Mega Man, at least that art. Maybe for some comical credits scene, something at the end of the book.
The Mega Man stuff isn’t too great, but everything else is so amazing that I have no words to properly capture the gloriousness.
Hehe, Dr. Light is like three and a half feet tall, apparently.
His Mega Man style would be cute for a one shot, but not for the main book. However, that Samus was awesome!
I prefer she never draw the book.
His Megaman reminds me of a Smurf for some reason.
While I agree that his / her style dosen’t work with Megaman, I wouldn’t mind seeing him / her do a Metroid or Kirby comic.
No thanks.
@CnCBoy
Tracy Yardley’s a guy.
Also LBD your very welcome but I posted that like a month ago.
Personally I don’t hate some of the examples of Tracy’s Mega Man (I think he was going for a Poiwered Up style) but yeah as much as I love the guy it just wouldn’t fit.
Now if Nintendo came to their sences and let Archie do some of their franchies I’d love to see Tracy on Kirby and Metroid.
This art would be a bit of a shift for the comic, but honestly, I’d prefer it to the current artist. The run has not been as good since the original artist fell off of it. Everyone else has just felt like they were doing bad impressions, I’d say a complete shift of style could actually do the series some good.
…Or get back the original artist.
Tracy is male.
It’s weird how his style is so spot-on with everything EXCEPT Mega Man.
I agree with lamarfll. Would be good for the Short Circuits, but not the main comic. The style is a little too ‘sonic-y’, I think. His Super Mario & Metroid stuff looks fantastic, though.
Do not want.
See his style is good for Archie, but lazy in regard to Mega Man. Glad they didn’t go through with this style.
I think it’s an interesting take on mega man… it’s better than ruby spears I think
looks like Sonic style.
Spaz’s concepts looked similar to that, I don’t exactly get what’s up.
@SonicBlueRanger: I know, I’ve had this thing in queue for just about that long. ;P
The Mario drawings are super awesome! I’d love to see a Mario comic! The Mega Man style is not so hot however.
I think this looks really nice. If they were to make a reimagination of Megaman, this might be something I’d really warm up to. Way more than for what Powered Up was all about (which was a great game though).
Umm, guys? I’m pretty sure Tracy just drew this for fun, not as “concept art” for the actual comic. Considering he copied Spaz’s style for Sonic Genesis pretty well, I’m sure he could draw stuff like the standard style l if that’s what he actually wanted to do.
