Capcom Teases Wii U Announcements…

…but is anyone going to hold their breath that it will involve Mega Man? Well, the Wii U is likely coming out right before the 25th anniversary… could there be a better way of ushering in a new Nintendo console than with a new Mega Man title?

Of course, Nintendo 3DS owners already know the answer to that, but we digress. For the record, this is what Senior Vice President Christian Svensson said regarding the matter when asked on the Capcom Unity forums:

“Some good stuff is coming and I’d love to tell you more… but for now, I have to keep it a surprise. Sorry.”

So… yeah. Not a lot to go on. Until we find out more, let the dreamers keep dreaming and the skeptics keep sharpening their pitchforks. Either way, we’ve got a bit of a wait ahead of us, though it’s not impossible that Nintendo’s quickly-approaching Wii U press event in New York City could shed some light on it.

  1. Bob says:

Given how abysmal the E3 showing was I half expect their NY event just to be more Nintendo Land minigames.

  2. rockman says:

If they are going to release a new Mega Man game, it has to be multiplatform to reach as many people as possible.

If they chose to release a Mega Man game exclusively on the Wii U, Battle Network will be perfect for the touch pad.

But honestly, I don’t think this “news” are related to Mega Man, probably Resident Evil or Monster Hunter.

  3. rockmace says:

why would a new unhinted game would be related anyway to megaman?

  4. Will says:

“We’d like to formally reannounce Mega Man X3 for 3DO!”

  5. Omar says:

Street Fighter 5, Resident Evil 6 coming to Wii U, i bet.

  6. Sorry, I laughed a little.

The prospect of Capcom making a good Mega Man game seems laughable at this point.

  7. Rockmace: Because they didn’t say it wasn’t?

I mean, that’s really it; it’s a crapshoot. It may be, it probably isn’t, but it’s something to be aware of just the same.

  8. Mabase says:

    MML3 for WiiU!

    Please

    PLEASE ;_;

  9. Alilatias says:

I’m thinking this is unrelated to Mega Man. Sure, there’s the 25th anniversary and all, but I still doubt it has anything to do with Mega Man.

Thinking about the announcements of recent Mega Man games, has there been an instance where Capcom representatives were teasing at their existence while not outright them Mega Man games?

(No, I don’t count MMU and Legends 3 on the basis that it was mainly Inafune, who no longer works at Capcom and neither game were released.)

I’m placing bets on something related to Resident Evil or an outright new IP (like Capcom’s recent ‘Remember Me’).

  10. Alilatias says:

Actually, now that I think back further, the whole thing with MMU before its announcement was outright stated to be MM-related, so scratch that out of the previous comment.

  11. Magnet_Man says:

You know the joke I’d make here. Just add me to the tally. MOVING ON.

  12. NovaManXP says:

Watch, it’ll be something worthless like porting Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 to Wii U, or Street Fighter X Tekken.

And if it isn’t that, I really doubt it’d be Mega Man related. Considering that they’re not confident enough to release a title on a handheld (see: Legends 3), I doubt they’d make the push to a console for Mega Man now. ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY CAN MAKE GAMES FOR iPHONES INSTEAD WOO

  13. Advent Axl says:

Wow, never thought I’d see Nova rage like this. I can’t blame him however.

I won’t hold my breath on their “release title”. I have a better chance of getting a shiny pokemon without the Masuda Method, than Capcom releasing a game I could care about at the moment. (In other words, fat chance)

  14. Munchy says:

Oh, Sven… It turns me on when you give us vague and noncommittal hints.

  15. RedrazerZero says:

    @NovaManXP
To be more accurate, Capcom might simply not be confident with the Legends/Dash series in particular in that case. The iPhone games if anything, could be perceived as an indicator of their faith (however small) in the series. Given the state Capcom is in with the series as a whole, why even bother supplementing a dying brand unless otherwise wanting to continue with it? If it is for making a little extra money on the side, they can do that with a brand they have more confidence in, or heck take any number of other risks. It’s just another option to think about…

As for me, I told myself to wait and see if the stories I’ve read/heard on this matter about the company are true. The story of whether or not it was truly Keiji pushing the series all along, (which I have a strong feeling was the case) will have to wait for me, as I keep a clear rational mind anticipating the future… That is why I don’t know what to make of this news, it’s still too early for me to give up all hope. I will wait till 25th-an to pass judgment…

  16. Duckaiser says:

Oh, when rockman said something about Battle Network and the touchpad…My GOODNESS that would be perfect! The pad being used like a PET or something…

But I doubt that. It would be awesome if the Wii U premiered with a Mega Man game, but I won’t be surprised at all if that’s not the case.

I mean, let’s get real, it’s obviously Star Gladiator versus Red Earth. Duh.

  17. Devasiamentality says:

The guys up at capcom’s empty head need to realize that unless they’re willing to immediately make an outright statement for a new Megaman game, that there really is no point in opening their mouths. After a load of MM games have been shot down, the skepticism as to whether or not they even give a damn about Megaman or it’s fans is abundant.

  18. ZeroX_Syaoran says:

Ok. I understand all the negativity; I mean it’s pretty large that the chances that it won’t be Mega Man, but we gotta stay a little hopeful. Maybe yes, maybe no. I’m just saying that even with the MML3 mishap, they may send out a new Mega Man game. Maybe.

    Maybe…..

  19. Kahu says:

Ten bucks bets Remember Me or RE6 Wii U.

  20. Airman says:

Not going to bother getting even slightly excited until I have the product actually in my hand.

  21. Roll Light says:

I think it’s about time we just gave up hoping, guys and gals.

  22. Model M says:

    Multi-plat please.

  23. Alilatias says:

The point I was trying to make earlier is that I highly doubt Capcom considers the Mega Man brand important enough to be making vague teasers for a Mega Man game ahead of time.

  24. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

You know I just don’t have much to say mayber I am just ina good mood. How about someone else takeover and negative prospects and positive prospects. I just can’t think of anythign at all. I know pointless comment of the day.

  25. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

Sorry for the double post and errors. Maybe* in a* at* anything*

  26. mirahsan2 says:

All I have to say is: CAAAPCOMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHHA, LOL!

  27. thegolfcourse says:

“The point I was trying to make earlier is that I highly doubt Capcom considers the Mega Man brand important enough to be making vague teasers for a Mega Man game ahead of time.”

Because that’s true, and recent history gives us little reason to infer otherwise. Sven didn’t refer to Mega Man implicitly or explicitly in his post anyway, but the news is interesting to consider.

Regarding Remember Me for Wii U–I don’t see why they wouldn’t have announced it for Wii U as the game itself was revealed. There’s not much point in delaying the reveal–the game is coming out less than a year from now and by then only be out half a year from the Wii U release date, so there’s going to be little competition anyway. Does Capcom have other announced plans for Wii U currently? Last I recall, I don’t think so.

    And to echo Magnet_Man’s statement…*avatar*

  28. undamned says:

Haha, that pic of Svenson. He looks like he’s ready to sell me a used car for more than the cost of a new one.

  29. Axl-fox says:

Im gonna be a little more daring and say its probably that new darkstalkers game people has been babbling about for quite some time now.

  30. Alilatias says:

Did Darkstalkers ever come out on Nintendo consoles? I think people today would cry foul if the next installment of Darkstalkers (if there is one) ends up on the Wii U.

Then again, said people should be counting their blessings if one is announced in the first place, and not canned halfway through.

  31. Adaaification says:

I mean, what can capcom has in stores for us for the WIIU?

Megaman: Unrealistic. Capcom buried the franchise. The only games that are coming out are Apps at the moment.

Resident Evil: Can be. Resi 6 is around the corner and when the WIIU have had the power everybody talks about, then why not? Or we get a Spin Off or something.

Street Fighter: I don’t think so. Maybe we get a Super Street Fighter 4 Turbo or something, but no Street Fighter 5. That’s to early. Or maybe the Spin Off Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat who is in the planing. That would be cool.

And then there are Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter and that’s it. Capcom had no more good runing franchises left in my eyes. Megaman would be cool, but is absolut unrealistic in my eyes. Capcom said that Megaman is no longer a lucrative franchise, so i think there will no Megaman for WIIU. Maybe Capcom brings out a new Anniversary Collection.

  32. Munchy says:

My guess is ports of stuff that already exists.

  33. MegaManSonicDude says:

Executive: “Rokkuman XOva 2 for da WHeee-YOUUUU shop channel!!!!

  34. Hypershell says:

“Until we find out more, let the dreamers keep dreaming and the skeptics keep sharpening their pitchforks.”

    Amen, my blue brothers.

…and I’ll probably be doing both.

  35. FuPoo says:

    Sexy Svensson.
