Mega Man 2 Makes 1UP’s Essential 100
Posted on August 21st, 2012 by LBD "Nytetrayn"
This week, 1UP is continuing with its countdown of what its readers consider “The Essential 100.” This week’s portion covers numbers 75 through 51, and to the surprise of no one, Mega Man 2 has made the list, beating out such titles as BioShock and Earthbound for its spot of prominence on the list.
Written by 1UP Editor-in-Chief Jeremy Parish himself, you can read all about how this “8-bit action game whose seeming simplicity belies its rich sophistication” earned its spot with fans and readers here.

Mega Man 1: Don’t mind me, y’all. After all, I’m only the one that Mega Man 2 stepped, to get to where it is today. ….*SNIFF*
*stepped on*
Stupid keyboard…
Number 72? Way oo low. It should be at least in the top ten,if not # 1. Of course I’m biased though. =p
*too low*
Why do I feel that every time some “Top 100 Games of All Time” list comes out, they put in Mega Man 2 and pretend that it’s the only game in the series?
Hell, I personally think Mega Man 9 takes what Mega Man 2 did and made a better game with it. But no, you’ll never find 9 or any other Mega Man game on any list simply because it doesn’t have the nostalgia power of “2.” That, or everyone’s afraid to list anything other than 2 out of fear of mass internet backlash.
Or maybe I’m tired of hearing the same diatribe I keep hearing from EGM and, to a lesser extent, 1UP.
@Ghalheart *gasp!* Dont say that, the MM2 fanboys will come for your blood!
But on a serious note, you’re right, but what can you do, websites like that are generally run by older gamers who grew up with MM2 so its inevitable.
