100,000 Strong Opens Assembly of a Mega Man Legends 3 “Concept Album”

Break it down! Do the monkey with me!

That’s the rough gist of the latest community event to come from Get Me Off the Moon, aka 100,000 Strong for Mega Man Legends 3‘s latest “Roll’s Wrap-Up.” The idea is basically to come up with and make the kind of music you think might have gone into Mega Man Legends 3, had it been made. We’ve seen a snippet of what the world would have had to offer, and have even heard some of its tunes.

But now, with this project, the idea is to flesh out the world we have seen. We’ve seen the tip of the iceberg, and now it’s time to imagine what the rest of that iceberg looks and sounds like.

Heat Man explains:

I’m going to introduce you to a project that’s both unique and challenging; it is both because nothing quite like this has ever been tried for a Mega Man game to the best of my knowledge.

The telltale sign of a good game is one that you keep playing even after you turn off the machine. You may be finished playing the game, for the time, but it continues to run in your mind. You wonder about its world and its characters, questions left unanswered. You talk to your friends about it, discussing the various elements of its mythos. You might even go so far as to make a website about it, or a comic, or your own story with your own characters – pretty crazy, huh?

Some games just have such fascinating worlds, they grip you that way. Mega Man Legends is undoubtedly one of those games. Its wonder, its mysteries and its charm have kept its fans actively interested in the series, even despite a whole decade without a new chapter. For this project, I will ask you to harness that sense of wonder and awe.

You can do a lot of things with imagination, but what we aim for today is this: A Mega Man Legends 3 concept album. Yes, at its heart, this will be an endeavor about making music. But it will also be a lot more than that. It will be a coalescence of music, art and ideas.

In truth, the scope of this project is broad, so I will try to be as clear cut as I can. The purpose of this project is to create an album of music that represents what Legends 3 could have been, as well as flesh out the unseen world of Legends. This is not a remix project; we will be primarily looking for original tracks. Any kind of music, any kind of theme, any kind of style.

Unlike past Neo Devroom events, this is not a contest. However, we will be looking forward to some amazing music. All in all, this will be a creative collaborative effort. The forums will be utilized for discussions about speculation on Legends 3 and its world, which will give rise to artwork representing those discussions. And in turn, that brainstorming will hopefully lead to music. It’s all meant to be a broad, symbiotic sort of process, and frankly I can’t be sure how it will work. But what I do know is, if the people who get involved put their hearts and minds into it, something amazing will be created.

What do I mean by imagining then world of Legends 3? Well to start with, imagining what the game would have been about; its characters, events, locations, and so forth. But it goes beyond that as well. Who are the kinds of people who inhabit the world of Legends? What are their customs; their hopes and dreams? What kind of mysteries are buried under the remaining lands, and floating far above the skies? What mysteries? What treasures? What terrors?

Ultimately we will be ushering in music and artwork that gives form to these thoughts, and what their answers could be. You will listen to this music, and you will be able to envision the world it describes. That is my wish, anyway.

For now, there are a lot of uncertainties that remain to be answered. The scope of this project, as well as how long it will run, are all up in the air. We are looking to you for that. Right now, we aim to compile the music and artwork into a digital album that will be available on Bandcamp. And while this is a completely voluntary undertaking, we do hope to find some small way to compensate those who help make it.

From here on, let’s see how this goes. I beseech you all to spread the world, and give it your best effort. The wonder and magic of Legends has always existed foremost inside of you. Let it out.

And there you have it. Now, who is up to the challenge?

Hey, thanks for covering this, LBD! Hopefully we’ll get a huge amount of contributors for this event!

If only music making was my skill set ,but sadly this is for the musical talented not the drawing or cooking talent. Well if anyone joins which there will be a few. Go out with a bang and make the legends music shine!

    @ManwholovesRockamusic

It sounds like there might be a place for artists in this too! Which is great since I’m in the same boat as you (well, I can’t cook either…)

  4. MegaMac says:

Pretty cool concept. I have a couple of ideas already recorded, but not finished. This would be a good reason to get them done! lol

  5. mirahsan2 says:

I think it’s about time everyone from all ages, from everywhere, who like any form of Mega Man to come together so we can go further with the 100K.

  6. OmegaMan says:

I actually have a tune I composed back when I considered making a Legends fan game after 3′s cancellation. If I want to submit something, does this mean I have to join the Neo Development Room and submit it there?

  7. Skybane_Zero says:

OmegaMan: You’d have to join the Capcom-Unity Devroom. We’re currently working on getting a thread up for contributions.

  8. SketchMan3 says:

@OmegaMan: So do I! =D I’m actually still kind of working on the game, too. Too bad I made the tune more in an old school style, though…

  9. OmegaMan says:

The original devroom? Well, I’m already signed up there, so I’ll keep a lookout on it.

  10. A-Guest says:

Sadly I’m not much of a creative person, so I doubt I can contribute anything to this “Concept Album” :(

Hope you guys will have your fun though.

Maybe one day that crappy company gets the thing and continues work on DASH3/Legends3.

Wow, I thought designing a ruin was a bit ambitious. This might be biting off more than the 100,000 can chew.

But I don’t mean to be a downer, and I sincerely hope it all works out. I may not be able to contribute, but I’m definitely supportive! :D

  12. Bey-Heart says:

Nice! Looks like I have another reason to pull out the staff paper and start composing again! ^.^

  13. MusicMan says:

I am looking forward to this. As a musician, I can safely say this is going to be extremely fun.

  14. MegaTuga says:

This is probably the very best idea I’ve heard since last year when 100k started.

It seems very ambitious and I bet there are talented music artists that would not be afraid to give this a try. In my opinion. Legends music is very moody depending on the situation, be it an action scene (Flutter vs Geselshaft comes to mind), a tension scene (those eerie themes from the sub gates and sub cities) or a comedy scene (such as The Bonne Conference Room), or even a sad event (Like after the defeat of Marlwolf or Bruno)

I also want to throw this out: lots and lots of organ instruments. Honestly I don’t think that anyone disagrees with me when they think of the classic references or other themes such as Geetz’s or Sera’s Battles.

Anyway, I would honestly love to help but I never tried my hand at music and t be honest I don’t think I have a good ear… but… I wonder…

If there is the possibility of being a special tune with lyrics I would love to write these. I’ve been getting good in matching words with the tunes in music and I think that I could pull it off.

So yeah, That’s the best I could do. I wonder if it would be good enough but anyway, here is my idea. I hope you consider it ^_^

    @MegaseveN

Their spirit knows no bounds and for being the most active even after reaching the goal which many thought impossible I am happy to see they do things like this all the time.

  16. SketchMan3 says:

Is there even a thread in the devroom for this?

  17. Skybane_Zero says:

Not yet, SketchMan, we’re still working things out. A thread should be up in the coming week or so.
