New Mega Man/Sonic Crossover Info Emerges from SDCC

Remember the big Archie Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog panel we told you would be happening at SDCC? Well, it has come and gone, and The Sonic Stadium was on hand to liveblog it.

Some details include that it will begin in Spring/Summer of 2013 with Mega Man #24, and a “Wily/Eggman bromance” is in the cards: “Got this little blue guy who’s really bothering me!” “Let me tell you about blue guys!” And for those interested, a downloadable Mega Man comic book app is now available. There isn’t much else which hasn’t been covered previously, though TSS is working on a video of the Q&A portion, so keep an eye out for that.

In addition, ComicsAlliance has an interview with Archie editor Paul Kaminski about the whole crossover, touching on when they first began the project and the debate he and writer Ian Flynn had regarding how canon this whole thing would be, plus why they’re telling it in 12 issues across three books.

Oh, and be sure to click over there for a full look at the image seen above.

Edit: And as Crimson Seiko of Mega Man Monthly points out, it looks like Quake Woman might have a spot here that wasn’t afforded to any comic-exclusive Sonic characters. Interesting…

    Metal.. And SIlvuh. Ugh.

    At least I have the Bass/Metal combo. I don’t know, but many people seem to perfer Silver over Metal Sonic, the way I see it.. >>

  2. Bob says:

    You know I’d probably take some of the Archie Sonic characters if it meant we didn’t have to have Silver.

  3. Charlotte says:

    I’m with Bob. Personally I’d rather have the redeemed Matal Sonic from the latest SU in this than Silver, at least he’d fit in better with Megaman’s current “Can Robots have true feelings” theme.

  4. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    Its a good picture!

  5. RedrazerZero says:

    Yeah I’ve seen Silver around but know jack about him. From the looks of it he seems run of the mill, what makes Silver bad as a Sonic character?

  6. erikthered says:

  7. erikthered says:

    I had something between the names, but apparently it doesn’t show up… -_-’

  8. Mugen Wing says:

    Heheheh, this is looking better and better, I am so giddy right now! X3

    And you all SHUT UP about Silver. I know he’s not exactly the number 1 favorite Sonic character, but I am so freaking tired of hearing the rap on him.

  9. mirahsan2 says:

    I have this gut feeling that this will be good. Also, where can we get this Mega Man comic app? Is it on Play Store, Apple Store, whatever they’re called?

  10. HeatPhoenix says:

    Keep it simple, Archie, please.

    But Metal Sonic vs. Sonic/Mega Man vs. Bass is gonna be good.

    And isn’t Silver on Sonic’s side by now? Or is the comic just completely unrelated to the games by now?

  11. Silver is… he’s on Sonic’s side, though I wouldn’t say they’re necessarily on good terms.

  12. Scias says:

    That would make an awesome background. Too bad its not bigger.

  13. Alyssa Watts says:

    I look forward to this! :D

    And whoa, they even include Gamma E-102 (behind Shadow)! Sweet!

  14. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    @Scias

    works well on my Laptop just nicely. :)

  15. MONKEYBLASTER says:

    geez capcom why not jsut make another sequel to the ZX series

  16. Glitcher says:

    You know this isn’t the first time that Sonic and Megsy have been in a comic crossover. The Blue Bomber already appeared on the cover of Sonic #77. Go take a look!

  17. Byte Man says:

    @Glitcher

    I did look, and I never saw the cerulean crusader once. Could you link that?

  18. RADIX says:

    @Byte Man: He appears to be part of the crowd that Dulcy’s flying over (like, practically microscopic–maybe at that size, it could be anyone).

  19. ZeroX_Syaoran says:

    DANG. That is one awesome image. Guess I have a new background! XD

  20. ZeroX_Syaoran says:

    Oh and I forgot to say:

    BASS!

    This comic just got even better. Though to how they’ll introduce Bass before MM7, I have no idea, but this is one comic event I am EXCITED to see!

  21. To the very few wondering why Silver is so bad, it is simple.

    One, he is a bad character who debuted in a very bad game.

    Two, with his powers and origin, he could be considered a Gary Stu. Then again, so could Shadow, but that’s for another time.

    Three, Silver is not even suppose to exist. Since everything that happens in Sonic 06 is erased from history at the end of the game, this means whatever Silver’s objective was no longer has meaning and Silver’s existence also disappears as he is no longer needed to go back into the past t fix his future. In other words, even Sega doesn’t consider Sonic 06 and Silver canon to the series if they’re just erased from history at the end.

  22. Kahu says:

    Bass. If they don’t make him a Vegeta clone like he’s supposed to be, I’m busting heads.

  23. Duckaiser says:

    Ha ha, the Chaotix? Too rad! Of course poor Mighty isn’t there, oh well.

    Oh, and Quake Woman really is there, barely noticed her back there.

  24. Phaelin says:

    I am going to be very confused if this all happens within the MM comic timeline. As in, how the heck does Bass show up so early?

    The Masters from 4 and 9 showing up early I get. No problem, they’re pretty much supposed to. I enjoy that! Bass, however, shows up because Wily has been imprisoned. He shows up to act as another hero trying to foil Wily’s escape, until the Big Reveal.

    Bass showing up early will be really strange.

  25. RedrazerZero says:

    Yo, is that Lou and Siva on the cover of Sonic #77? How and why if so?

  26. A-Guest says:

    Why does the good stuff gets posted when you’re cutted off the net for like two days? D:

    Anyway, THIS IS AWESOME!
    Judging by the picture above, it looks like they aren’t going with their original Sonic characters and instead, only take SEGA ones.
    That’s awesome!

    Also seeing all of MegaMans friends make me totally smile, not to mention that epic pose from Rock and Sonic in the center.

    CAN’T WAIT!

  27. Acrosurge says:

    Oh… this image portrays Mega Man and Sonic at their proper physical heights (4’4″ and 3’3″ respectively). This is a minute detail that makes me happy! The rest of the image is cool too. :)

  28. Roll says:

    @Gaia

    Not all the characters you see on there will be appearing.

  29. Blues1990 says:

    I thought Rock was 4′ 9′?

    That aside, I’m looking forward to this upcoming crossover.

  30. Acrosurge says:

    ^Nope. Rock is 132 cm, or about 4’4″.

  31. A.D.A.M. says:

    The reason why only Sega Sonic characters are featured in the crossover, is because almost the entire cast of non-Sega Sonic characters are out of the main cast right now. Sally has been robticized and is working for Eggman, Antoine is dying, Bunnie has been de-roboticised and is on some unknown adventure, Nicole has been banished from New Mobotropolis, and Snively was replaced by an android who is in United Federation territory, while the real Snively is locked in a secret prison cell thing. Rotor, the Secret Freedom Fighters, and Ixis Naugus are pretty much the only non-Sega Sonic cast left. It should also be noted, this crossover might not happen if a certain lawsuit against Archie, Sega, and Bioware succeed, which it looks like it just might.

  32. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    @A.D.A.M.

    Lawsuit?

  33. A.D.A.M. says:

    @ManwholovesRockamusic
    A number of Archie’s old artists and writers for the Sonic the Hedgehog comic book are suing for the rights to various Sonic characters and stories and designs. If it wins, it looks like the current Sonic comic will die, and Archie will suffer greatly since Sonic is one of their best sellers. However, US copyright law isn’t on the writers’ side, since they are considered work for hire, and under the law either Archie or SEGA gets the rights to their work, and even if the writers keep their rights, its a derivative work, so it is unlikely they will get sole ownership. However, Archie and SEGA could loose the rights to some characters and the game Sonic Chronicles that Bioware made. But the US judicial system is so out of control there is no telling what will happen. Juries and Judges have been known to ignore the law when they want to.

  34. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    @A.D.A.M.

    I see so its the artists vs the company. As for the whole judge and jurie deal it wouldn’t surprise me.

  35. Neo says:

    I’m a Sonic and |Rockman fan and I’m sure this will be horrible.

    It is not Sonic nor Rockman fault, it is archie fault. They aren’t happy in destroying the story of one franchise, they need to destroy another and them make a CROSSOVER?!

    Meh, I’m so happy that in my country there’s no sign of this abonimation.

  36. ProtoZero says:

    Is that Volnutt I see (in between rock’s legs)

  37. Maetch says:

    @ProtoZero

    No, I think that’s Quake Woman.

  38. A-Guest says:

    No doubt that’s Quakewoman, anything else would makes no sense.

    Then again, we got Forte/Bass here, so meh~
