MTV Geek Gets In on the Mega Man/Sonic Crossover Fun, Too
Following Kotaku’s lead, MTV Geek has published a much more extensive interview with Archie Comics scribe Ian Flynn and editor Paul Kaminski about the upcoming Mega Man/Sonic the Hedgehog crossover.
Over the course of the interview, a few more hints are dropped as to how this whole thing might get rolling– suffice to say, the implication is that it isn’t the heroes’ fault. They also talk about how the two and their respective antagonists might get along (or not), who else is going to be involved (with a hint as to how that may work in the case of someone like Bass), pleasing fans of both series, the duration of the event, its appeal to the casual fan, hitting two out of three milestone issues, and a tease of our heroes fighting in “all-out war” against “the ultimate evil.”
To read the whole interview for yourself (and sorry, no pretty pictures this time), head on over to MTV Geek.

With Mega/Sonic and Proto/Knuckles similarities already pointed out, Bass/Shadow seems obvious.
Their color schemes are similar, but their character motivations are rather different. Knux and Blues really couldn’t be more different in how they operate. I’m still interested to see how they bounce off each other. I highly doubt Bass and Shadow could get along. I highly doubt Bass could get along with anyone other than Treble.
I use to say, everyone has something similiar with someone else.
That also fits to MegaMan/Rockman and Sonic.
True, their friends aren’t so alike if take a closer look and get around their color scheme.
MegaMan and Sonic as Wily and Robotnik however, I dunno.
We got basic heroes here that fight quite old scientists who try taking over the world using the power of technology and robots.
In fact, these characters are very well similiar in their own ways.
“One thing that remains true for both series, is that the fan communities are awesome.”
What?!
^Where, How, WHY When??!!!?@%?!? Come on A-Guest, your better than that, show’em your confused…
Ok. That Bass/Shadow thing? If (and only if) we get to a point that the Mega Man comic gets to MM6 (and I seriously hope it does), then I think I can infer that this won’t be the last Sonic/Mega Man crossover.
‘Course I could be wrong but we’ll see in the future.
Wait. I only read the previous post now. Could it be that a possible early intro for Bass can happen?! Oh god, I hope not. We haven’t even got to MM3!
Then again, Flynn is writing and has done (as far as I’ve heard) a superb job on the comic. Hm. In that case leave my trust to him. Just wonderin’ how Bass’ll stay in the background til MM7? Or could it be Bass only shows up at the end of the crossover?
I’m sorry, my thoughts must sound confusing. But I’m still tryin’ to get over the fact that 12 part crossover is happening.
I am very interested in this crossover, I can see the similarlity with Megaman and Sonic. But I am curious of 12 parts of this crossover. I just hope it gets released before it gets cancelled. This comment has been corrected
They keep on mentioning how Wily is involved with Time Travel, so maybe that’s why Bass is showing up early…..
@RedrazerZero
Haha, indeed I could but didn’t seem to took enough time to make a more serious comment :s
But yea, for Protoman/Blues and Knuckles absolutely, they have nothing in common, aside their color scheme.
Unlike Knuckles who used to have a bigger rivalry with Sonic, especially at their first meeting on Angel Island because he got (not just once) fooled by Robotnik, Protoman just wanted to test and train his little brother to make sure he is ready to fight Dr.Wily, who might have gave him the canon and shield but still didn’t trusted him or anybody else for the very reason of feel betrayed.
Knucklehead is the complete opposite as he’s naive enough to believe people’s word although those used him like a tool in the past.
Similar thing for Bass/Forte and Shadow, yet not the same.
While the black blur has always been loyal to his master, even tried to protect him with his life, Bass is entirely selfish (at least that’s what we see, Duo said something else)
@RedrazerZero
Pardon, hit the submit button before I was actually done.
Anyway, Bass is entirely selfish and still wants to prove himself to be the very best what’s something Shadow used to stop thinking when he finally beat Black Doom and lastly put an end to his past.
On top of that, Bass still wants to defeat MegaMan for at least once which is something SEGAs black blur never actually wanted, from their first meeting when he worked for Dr.Ivo Robotnik aside.
They’re still both arrogant and still prefer to work on their own, yes, also both are practically clones of the main character (in case of “our” black friend his creator even proofed that in Power Fighters), but that the only few similarities, those two have.
Going in details, not even MegaMan/Rockman and Sonic nor Albert Wily and Ivo Robotnik are that alike as meant before.
Rock is all for justice and just wants to life a enjoyable life with his family at the house of Thomas Light, in fact he doesn’t even need his superhuman powers that badly, we all love to see when he’s in action.
Sonic on the other hand just wants to be free, to run faster than anybody else and refuses to take orders from anybody but himself.
He believes to be the best in his way and see’s everything as a big funny game, unlike Rock who is getting serious and worried about the sake of humanity straight from beginning.
Indeed, both have a strong sense for justice, plus both do not want anyone to fear pain, evil nor even death, but they’re looking at these things with their own eyes.
And last but not least the doctors, although, oh well, we know very well how both handle things.
One is making toy robots to make mankind believe he could be dangerous while in truth searching for ancient powers or gems.
The other is creating killer robots that can actually harm someone, create dangerous viruses for both, mankind as for robots and lastly fall on his knees when the hero of justice stays in front of him.
Nope, none of them is really that alike with his “obvious” double from another dimension (or rather timeline?).
Well, Proto Man used to work for Wily before he realized he wasn’t a good guy, and Knuckles is much the same way in that regard. Following their rivalries (in the third games of their respective series, with a face turn in the fourth, no less!), both have become staunch allies to their respective blue heroes.
@A-Guest
Yeah I think the fact that they have basic commonalities yet different personalities, stories etc.. are what’s gonna make the stories interesting for me if properly handled. We’ll see… also Super Mega Man..
I remember Knuckles fought Sonic like two times again, after Sonic3.
There was Pocket Adventure, where both fought for a Chaos Emerald and there was that fight in Adventure1 when Knuckles came to the ruins.
From memories, I can’t tell Knuckles was tricked by Robotnik in SA1 but as the story went for Pocket Adventure, Robotnik used him again to buy some time, so he could escape from Sonic.
About Protoman, oh well, it depends on how you involve Powered UP in the story line.
In case of Archie, it is included for sure, but if you exclude it, Protoman became different after 3 or 4, yes.
@RedrazerZero
I personally would love to see Hyper MegaMan again but I doubt they’ll include him at some point of the series
But yeah, that could be interesting indeed, seeing how MegaMan and fellows handle the Chaos Emeralds and if Sonics crew can stand the super fighting robots, we use and love to know.
Yeah… I’m pretty much a crossover and MegaMan/Sonic fan
shadow and bass has been pretty much confirmed here http://www.tssznews.com/2012/07/11/early-artwork-from-archie-sonic-crossover-released/
I think they match in being polar opposites.
mega is serious, sonic is laid back
proto is cautious, knuckles is oblivious
bass is selfish, shadow is loyal.
Dr wily is skinny, Dr. eggbotnik or whatever the kids are calling him these days is round.
And this all leads where perhaps?
@A-Guest
Lenghty, but true lol. As far as personalities go I personally think blues/sonic have somewhat more of a similiar personality than mega/sonic. The attitude of blues/sonic definetely match at least i think.
@Erik the red: Robotnik. ROBOTNIK. Why you say? Because I will never forget The Adventures of Sonic and Sonic Underground from my childhood.
That said, Eggman’s pretty catchy.
That said, it’ll be really interesting seeing those two together (Wily and Robotnik). XD
@Some Dude
I dunno. Blues is very calm, subdued, observant, and calculating. He seems to always assess a situation and knows more about the goings on in the world than anyone else. This is very unlike Sonic, who tends to leap into action without looking first. Like Sonic, however, he treasures his freedom above nearly everything else.
Has anyone noticed that as far as design is concerned, most of the weight of Sonic characters is in their heads, while most of the weight of Mega Man characters is in their feet? They complement each other well on the same page. Rather yin-yang.
@Acrosurge
Not really most Sonic characters (with the new art style and kinda the old one) have about an even ratio between head and feet. The body structure of Mega Man characters are also more akin to the human anatomy in terms of comparing body parts with one and other, with exaggerations on forearms and lower leg areas, as oppose emphasizing lower areas over top ones. Mega Man has a lot of art styles though I’m only comparing Spaz/Hideki.
@Acrosurge
I def agree with that. As far as some similairities i think blues and sonic do their own thing and don’t really take orders from anyone. Sonic will follow a game plan more so than blues though. Blues can be unpredictable at times. They both have an attitude (blues more so).
Megaman and sonic though seem like almost complete opposites except they’re both on the side of good. I don’t think there’s an exact match with any of these guys but who cares. Megaman is getting some action going here
I subgest you this sprite comics.

It is about a cross over between Sonic and Megaman. I find it funny and there is year of comics. It is sadly discontinued but it will entertain you for some hour.
