The TMMN Megacast #18 – Zero’s Kind of a Big Deal
After sacrificing itself to protect its friends, The MegaCast appeared to be gone forever. But after scouring the Earth, we were able to find and piece together the various parts and rebuild it. Now The MegaCast is back and better than… well, at least as good as… well, it’s back anyway.
This month Heat Man, Tabby, AWD, and myself (mainfinger) assemble to talk about the 10th anniversary of the Mega Man Zero series. But it wouldn’t be The MegaCast without us taking a really long time to actually get to the main subject. What exactly is Project X Zone? Will it be any good? Will it even come here? We compare it to similar looking games of the past to find out!
Also, we talk about a whole bunch of random crap that has nothing to do with anything because that’s what we do. But hey, maybe you know what we should be talking about. If that’s the case, feel free to leave future topic suggestions in the comments below.

At least this is about the MMZ version of Zero. The MMX version is an overrated piece of garbage.
Finally a new podcast!.
Hey there, great podcast I’ve actually been listening to a few for quite some time now. I don’t know if there’s anything big I feel I could add as a possible topic to your future episodes, but one thing I’ve always wondered in every classic megaman and megaman x game is, why is it that megaman can get pelted on by heavy lasers, missiles and other deadly destructive things, yet if he simply “walks” up to a spike…instant death.
I dunno, it just seems very weird to me that a character made of metal alloy is so easily done in by spikes, when there are so many other things out there in the games that look twice as deadly.
Anyways, what I’m getting at is what you all might think about that on the podcast, it could just be something quick to bring up. Plus I think it would be just hilarious to hear about what you guys might say, think or add to that subject. So, just throwing that into the pot, can’t wait for the next episode, keep up the great work!
Every robot in the Rockman universe suffers from the Achilles’ Hell design flaw.
As for the Zero serie, it’s probably the one wich had the most consistent quality through its history, spanning “only” 4 episodes by the same team on the same system. No horrible disrespectful milking.
The reploids don’t have such sturdy metal alloy or other protective materials (such as a power ring) to protect them from a one-hit kill. Cyber-Elves debuff spike damage.
Though, that pose is spammy.
I have one topic that kind of scratches my head that I’m surprised no one as really talked about. Where exactly is Bomb Man?
In the original games track listing, they labeled Bomb Man’s Stage as Orb City but in the PSP remake it’s called Dynama City. (Here I thought the game took place in Monsteropolis.)
In the PSP remake, it is stated in the beginning that Bomb Man is a mining robot, yet you never encounter him in a mine, just a place that kind of looks like a factory of some sort. So where the heck to he go after being reprogrammed? Bomb Man’s stage never makes sense!
I look forward to these podcasts so much. Thank you!
I wish you guys could post links to some of the things referenced in your conversation, though. Like that Afghanistan guy’s videos…
I feel like I’ve seen it before, but it’s so vague…
Great podcast, I enjoyed it a lot.
About coming podcasts, I already give you a suggestion a long time ago, it’s was about a podcast focused on Inti Creates, the good, the bad, the music, their take on the classic series and stuff like that.
Oh cool, I gave a suggestion before I’d even listened to the portion that asks for suggestions =D
I like the style of the podcasts. It’s really fun and interesting to hear you guys talk about random stuff and fit Megaman in somewhere. But, hopefully, by me saying that, you guys won’t stop trying to fight against that tendency, because that would throw off the whole chemistry of it. I wouldn’t change a thing, except Tabby doesn’t talk enough v_v…. I enjoyed hearing her speaking up more this time around, though.
As far as what you guys should talk about… Fangamez (if you play them)! Maybe fit into the conversation what a GOOD current gen (hi-def graphics and hi-fi sound and music) Megaman game would be like, annnnnd… I can’t think of anything else.
@Jose: No u
@Slider: It doesn’t matter. Zero is overrated in the X series. At least in MMZ, he was awesome and in Zero 4 was where he pulled off an epic moment of awesome.
Thanks, guys! We’ll try to get back to more regular updates, but it can be tricky to get everybody together. I’m switching jobs, Heat Man lives in Japan, etc. We’ll do our best, though!
@rockman I feel like we did an episode on Inti before… maybe not officially, but I feel like it’s definitely a subject we’ve covered quite a bit between various episodes. Unless you were referring to us already talking about it, maybe I misunderstood.
@Jose your free to have your opinion, but why do you have to be so negative, especially when your the first comment, its really harsh. I like Zero in general cause they are both awesome in their own ways, I prefer MMX Zero cause I like his design and personality more, but I’m not going to randomly say that MMZ Zero is garbage when that has little to do with the topic.
I’m a little weary to look up the videos you guys were talking about, you know the ones, damn my curiosity.
little correction – Zero has the buster in X3, X5, and X6, in X3 it functions the same as X’s and is actually useful. In X5 and X6 he fires one shot, can’t jump or duck while firing it, its pretty weak, and in 5, like you said, you have to give up the fourth armor to have it. Unless your not planning on using X at all, you would be fool to take that over the fourth armor.
I kind of which X was the actual final boss, Copy X wasn’t a bad idea, and hero turned antagonist isn’t exactly original, but I really liked the idea of X becoming “evil” or doing wrong things for righteous reasons rather.
And since you asked, I would like to hear you guys talk about what you would want if X9 is ever made, like what graphic style(classic X1-3, X4-6 style, X8 style, or perhaps a new style altogether), What gameplay elements you would want in it. As well as talking about which X game you consider to be the worst, pretty much I’m asking whether you dislike X6 or X7 more, personally I dislike X6 more cause its even less fun, badly designed, rushed, and buggy.
@Zig
I think I originally called it the buster from X1 (correct me if I’m wrong) simply because Zero fires his buster right in the intro stage of the first game even though you don’t get to actually play as him. This being before referencing using it in X5. The one in X3 was actually useful, though, so it’s a bit different. And, well, we try not to think about X6
