Reminder: Free Comic Book Day is This Saturday

Just a quick reminder for everyone: after you’ve gone to see The Avengers this weekend, you’ll want to locate your nearest local comic book shop and drop in for Free Comic Book Day this Saturday, May 5th.
As we noted previously, this year’s Gold Tier of free comics will include a special FCBD edition of Archie’s Mega Man #1. And depending on how generous your participating local comic book shop is (it varies from store to store at the owner’s discretion, so check around), you can also get your hands on some other books as well, including an Avengers story from Marvel, The Simpsons in the Bongo Free-for-All, Archie’s other video game superstar series Sonic the Hedgehog (also by Mega Man writer Ian Flynn), or legendary Transformers scribe Simon Furman picking up where he left off 21 years ago with IDW’s Transformers: Regeneration One #80.5, among others.

You can get a look at the full selection here, with previews for most. Do note, however, that while these may be free to you, each comic retailer has to pay for these books themselves out-of-pocket, and so they may not choose to carry the full selection. As a result, you might want to call ahead and see, though they might be pretty busy.

One final note: If you’re shrugging off the free Mega Man comic because it’s a reprint of the first issue with a variant cover, do note that Archie’s solicitation touts “bonus features,” as well as a preview of the New Crusaders comic by Mega Man/Sonic the Hedgehog writer Ian Flynn. What are these features? Your guess is as good as ours!
