Capcom Unity Podcast Remarks on 100,000 Strong Milestone

Mega Man Legends 3 is not a terribly easy topic for Capcom Entertainment to talk about publicly. But Brett, Greg and Seth of Capcom Unity gave it a swing on the latest episode of their Capcom Unity Official Podcast.

Spoiler alert: Not going to get your hopes up going in – the surpassing of 100,000 fans for Legends 3 has no bearing on the revival of the game, at least in the foreseeable future. But sincere praise is given on how strongly Mega Man fans have banded and cooperated together, as well as Capcom’s own commitment to keep the franchise going from the get-go. In a sense, a lot of the same things you’ve heard already, but it’s nice hearing them genuinely from the mouths of the staff.

You can catch the 100,000 Strong discussion, and then a little bit about Mega Man Zero’s 10th anniversary, at around the 50 minute mark in the podcast, i.e. a little past halfway in.

  1. Blues1990 says:

    Well, this was certainly a weird podcast.

  2. Cuttingitup says:

    I’m glad they at least acknowledged it.

  3. Tayo says:

    What’s their reasoning for canceling the game? Well, apparently they didn’t think it would sell well enough. We’ve got 100,000+ fans pledging their devotion to the Mega Man fanbase, and that’s just for Mega Man Legends 3, that’s not to count the entire Mega Man fanbase who may not have seen the 100,000 strong campaign. What else do you want Capcom!?

  4. Dr. Jerk says:

    Frankly, it’s not like the people on the CoA side can do anything about it. Everything rests on the decision of CoJ, since it is they who call it.

    I mean, don’t you think it would be no brainer that CoA cannot really do anything?

  5. sinclair says:

    Well, until Capcom becomes less ambiguous about what criteria Legends 3 didn’t meet, for now I’m pushing for CoJ to actually announce a release date for Monster Hunter 3G in NA…

  6. rockman says:

    Nothing new.

  7. ZeroX_Syaoran says:

    At least they didn’t turn a blind eye to it. Now if only CoJ would say something.

  8. Roll Light says:

    >People still want Legends 3
    Slap another name on the title and you wouldn’t even know it was a Mega man game

    I like the series, but vocal fanbase annoy the hell out of me.
    Just give it a rest.

  9. R.Case says:

    Yeah honestly Im kind of hearing the people at CoA say nothing. I wanna start hearing the people that actually worked on the game say nothing. That would be a change.

    Also Roll Light, that’s not gonna happen, no one is stopping. If you don’t like it go some where else.

  10. REDX says:

    it be cool if they actually announce the return of mega man legends 3 in E3 next moth. i be really happy :D

  11. GregaMan says:

    That’s Brett, Greg, and SETH.

  12. Lumine1412 says:

    @Roll Light
    “Slap another name on the title and you wouldn’t even know it was a Mega man game”
    I don’t see any possible coherent logic behind this statement

  13. Slider says:

    @Roll Light, you keep spurting your “slap another name on it…” shtick all over anything that has to do with Legends 3. What the shockman does that even have to do with anything? Why does that matter? What does not knowing it’s a Megaman title have to do with a good game? What is up with this weird “megaman purism” thing you have going on? It’s thinking like that that keeps the Megaman franchise from progressing and evolving. You act like just because it’s not “pure Megaman” it’s not something worth fighting fooor. Do you go around to other message boards and say “Who cares about Super Mario Bros. 4. If you slap another name on it, you couldn’t even tell it was a Megaman game.”

    And what’s your beef with the vocal fanbase? You don’t have to read it. And there isn’t even much “vocalizing” going on here, anyway. Stop trolling with your copy/pasted spam.

    Yes! People still want Legends 3. People still want a bridge between classic and x. people still want x9. So what?

    You’re being way more annoying than any “vocal fan” could ever be. Give IT a rest. Do you have some kind of macro setup to seek-and-destroy anything that has to do with MML3?

    This is good news. We’re glad that they are acknowledging us.

  14. Slider says:

    OH, also, 100,000 people is not that much. Now, if every country’s GMOTM page reached 100,000, THAT would be something.

  15. V says:

    I guess we’ll have to take more drastic action and make capcom listen and care about us.

    They may as well just admit their mistake and uncancel the game because we will not give up until they do. Even if it means they go bankrupt.

  16. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    And so the mission to keep trying continues because to me its worth fighting for and will do it in the most peaceful way possible. No need for dislike we need unity among all fans even if its pointless. Those of the 100,000 Strong would glady stand behind any part of the fan branches to help vocalize their desire to fight for Megaman. If we could get every country to reach that amount slider that would be a glorious day in fan history. And if it were the case I’d glady pour my cup of the best drink in town and toast. :)

  17. Davis says:

    it does not matter how many Fans you have if you offer Capcom loads of money then im sure they would be fine with giving you what you want Money talks not people even though yes people talk…. (cough yeah w/e) the point is Capcom does not care about its Fans just the money in their pocket sure they made some great games over the years but Capcom is just Clearly not worth my time or yours less your a rich kiddy and have the cash to show to Capcom….dotn bother trying to Legends 3 or any other MegaMan title now that MegaMans maker is gone Capcom has turned into a a Pile of **** nothing new or good has come from Capcom sense he even left as a whole says a whole lot…. more like tells you ONE man made capcom what it is to day that Man is Ifune and MegaMan HIS Creation.

    ps. **** Capcom

  18. Ekkusu says:

    100 000 screaming ants won’t be heard by the deaf lion.

  19. rnn says:

    @Roll Light: Dang, your voice chip must be malfunctioning, because you keep repeating that line like a broken record.

    Also, dark haired boy in blue armor pew-pew-pewing with a blonde sister figure in red acting as a support character? Nope, that’s not like a Megaman game at all.

  20. Jose says:

    @Davis: Your statement is made of win.

    At least CAPCOM acknowledges reaching 100,000 but I feel that it isn’t enough. We need more.

  21. Anonymous says:

    @Ekkusu

    Yes, but ants can still bite.

    @Roll Light

    We get it. You don’t like this series or its devoted fan base, now piss off.

  22. Magnet_Man says:

    I got a great idea guys! Let’s keep responding to the obvious troll! That’ll show him!

    He’ll have no idea what hit him.

  23. rnn says:

    @Magnet Man: Trolls usually exhibit a higher level of intelligence.

  24. Oh well. Maybe they’ll announce Legends 3′s return at the 2012 San Diego Comic Con, anyway.

  25. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    @Davis

    Point taken.

  26. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    @Davis

    Sorry point takened.

  27. erikthered says:

    I think the only way to really win, would be if the 100,000 strong, were to actually block capcom out or something.

    if people in the 100,000 strong are still buying capcom’s other crap, then what does capcom care? they’re still gonna make money off you either way. If we all just boycott capcom and get mega man fans across the globe to do the same, then capcom will listen, but so long as we’re still crazy about monster hunter and we’re still buying the 5 different updates to a single street fighter game and paying absurd amounts of money for pointless DLC, why should they care?

  28. Jose says:

    @erikthered: Why not. It may work.

  29. Lumine1412 says:

    @ManwholovesRockamusic
    ‘Takened’ is not a word

  30. Byte Man says:

    @erikthered

    I only buy Mega Man products when it comes to Capcom. This means I miss out on great titles, but to me standing up for principals is more important.

    However, not everyone sees it that way. Devil May Cry might just get the reboot it needs (MIGHT) with the coming title, and if people want to buy that, I say go for it. After all, how can Capcom make Mega Man titles if they go under because we don’t buy anything? They broke my heart, but there must be SOME support, or the whole thing falls apart.

    Now a PSN Hack-level event may be too much, but if Anonymous WERE to get involved, it might sway some of the hard-liners. But then we might also never get the game at all. So trying to think of scenarios to force them to restart the process is a balancing act, at best.

    BTW, Inafune-sensei has said if they ever wanna restart the project, Comcept is available. They could farm it out to Inti Creates, most of whom are ex-Capcom staff. So it’s not like they don’t have avenues. Plus, there is always Kickstarter.

    BTW, I have a long-standing suspicion that most of those involved in the approval process are old-time Street Fighter staffers jealous of Mega Man’s status as the company mascot, believing Ryu should be. This would explain the sudden interest in Street Fighter again after all this time, and the shaft Mega got.

    But that’s just what I think. I might be (and probably am) wrong.

  31. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    @Lumine

    Was I right the first time then? I keep second guessing my spelling lately. It really bugs me quite a bit.

    Oh well just not my day to spell…

  32. Hollow Ichigo says:

    The simple truth you need to accept is you accepted this action without so much as a fight,you bitched,you whined,but never truly did anyone in charge of these megaman revival efforts have the will to strike capcom down,and once you lose that will then you have already lost your fight,in fact many of the legends group members sucked up to capcom and those who didnt were banned,haha they sacraficed their own allies people who had well good intentions…i see nothing good here to show that we could get such a game with people who lead with a broken blade.

    Now for you people who are going to say and it was about acting civil again you people are weak,when someone does something bad they are to be reprimanded,in this case capcom did it twice…and no actions of clear punishment was taken

    You want megaman?Then you better be willing to pick up and hold your blade not hide behind some words such as “Please dont let him die”

    As long as you work with capcom and and kiss their ass hoping to get a videogame which they consider outdated then obsolete then megaman will never shine and see the light of day again.

  33. Vin hullunkeriset Giddeon says:

    This disappoints me. I may have been ”not going to happen…and they would exclude my fav charecter anyway” but recently, they have earned my support and i am very upset with capcom’s…ignorance. We will have justice.

  34. The Light of Truth says:

    Capcom has no financial incentive to do Legends 3 now that they know they can go back to their days of pumping out nearly-full-priced patches to Street Fighter and related fighting games. Except now even better, because now they can sell you the alternate costumes and such that are already on the disc (because they were already part of the arcade game that was straight-ported to said disc) and used to be bog-standard unlockables.

    “Sup guys, we cancelled Legends 3. BTW go guy Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Super Ultra Hyper Ultimate Arcade Edition 2012 Dash: Giga Mix. Suckerrrrrrrs!”

  35. Masterge77 says:

    Remember, Capcom said that it would take 500,000 signatures in order to get them REMOTELY interested in making a new Darkstalkers game, 100,000 strong is only a 5th of that, and it would take YEARS to get to 500,000.

    If there is one company that is ignorant as hell, if there is ONE company that craps on it’s fans on a weekly basis, it’s Capcom.

    PS: Kenzo Tsujimoto must DIE!!!

  36. josh says:

    this is so f***ing annoying.

    it’s comparable to trying to win back a girl who broke up with you.

    “sorry, i know how you feel, but it doesn’t change anything about how i feel.”

    an exercise in futility. thanks again, capcom, for doing basically nothing.

  37. zerokun says:

    This is over! Is time to leave! MML3 wont be out in the future!
