Bandai Namco, SEGA, and Capcom Come Together on Nintendo 3DS for…?

In case you haven’t heard, the Japanese Nintendo Direct video from earlier this week featured a trailer announcing a collaborative effort between Bandai Namco, SEGA, and Capcom for the Nintendo 3DS. In addition, the name of former Super Robot Wars developer Banpresto (now owned by Bandai Namco) is there, too.

We weren’t originally planning to post about this, since– beyond the collaborators and platform– the game is largely a mystery, and has no other tie to Mega Man. But since so many of you dropped tips, we’ve decided to go ahead and run it for the benefit of those who might still be unaware:

In addition, you can find the official website here, though there’s little to speak of therein.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, you may proceed with your snark and skepticism.

I’m going to expect something worse than namcoxcapcom when it comes to rockman.

  2. Sammy says:

Well, this will certainly be interesting.

  3. *5 months later* The hotly anticipated collaboration game between dream developers Capcom, Sega, and Namco Bandai was cancelled due to it lacking “specific criteria”.

Too soon, yes. But someone was going to make that joke inevitably.

  4. Zerothexhunter says:

I wonder if it is involved with Nintendo as well meaning Super smash bros. 4

  5. Redmage1987 says:

I’m not sure what to think of this yet. We will see what happens though.

  6. Redmage1987 says:

Sorry, I know this doesn’t go here but I need to release some excitement…I JUST WON ISSUES 1-8 OF THE MEGA MAN ARCHIE COMIC!! =D

  7. Tornado Man says:

Its gonna be something to do with Resident Evil or Street Fighter. or maybe some sort of fighting game crossover. I highly doubt it has anything to do with Mega Man.

  8. NekoRik says:

Well, I hit the site up, and being a fan of viral games and the like, I took note of the password the guy enters on the door:

    032760

Internet, you may begin your meticulous researching now.

  9. Redmage: Congratulations!

  10. Professor Icepick says:

    It’s probably a SRW game.

  11. Rayge says:

    Calling the game right now:

    Resident Soul Hedgehog

  12. chillerific89 says:

I’m pretty sure it won’t be a Megaman game, but dang I so excited right now!

I hope it’s gonna be an RPG or an completive game.

  13. Advent Axl says:

I won’t hold my breath on this one.

  14. pstart says:

I could totally see a Super Robot Wars game featuring the giant robots from anime, Virtual-On, Lost Planet, etc.

Mega Man might be too small, but maybe something from the series would get in!

  15. Megafan says:

I highly doubt it, but it would be very cool if they announced it to be the restart of Legends 3. That they all teamed up to make the game better, to finish the game.

  16. Glitcher says:

    @Redmage
Eh? It’s over already? When was the deadline?

  17. Duckaiser says:

    I’m very curious about this!

If it is a Mecha thing, having some Bonne mecha would be an interesting surprise! But I’m not getting my hopes up.

Either way, Capcom, Sega, and Namco Bandai is pretty curious.

  18. sonicstrife says:

call me skeptic but i would love to see sonic and megaman in a tales of battle thing that would make my day

  19. Stefan says:

    What? No Square-Enix?

  20. Leanpocket says:

Support this! I would be cool to seem classic megaman, sonic, and pack-man, fighting against evil!

  21. YoshiAngemon says:

If it turns out to be a sequel to Namco X Capcom, then don’t even bother seeing it in America, even IF Sonic the Hedgehog would have a story where he and his friends team up to defeat Eggman, again. The way Japan sees it, they don’t want America to go “BO-RING!” when they play this, since us American Pig-Dogs are only good for ONE Tactical Simulation: FIRE EMBLEM! We don’t get SRT, because of copyrights, and other things.

  22. ZeroX_Syaoran says:

@Redmage: Aw, man, I was planning t\on entering that one. Ah well, good one mate! XD Maybe you have extra copies of issues you wanna send over to me? Haha, just kidding. XD

Btw, I won’t raise my expectations on this. ‘Cause they might get crushed all over again.

  23. Frøg says:

Still, Banpresto’s there. They did one hell of a great job with SRW Z2-1(Nu last shooting? Eff YEAH!)

  24. MegaSeveN says:

Well Namco Bandai seems spotty with their NA releases, and Namco X Capcom never did get released here.

So my hopes and expectations are starting off extremely low.

  25. no one says:

It’s all in the dark right now so it’s better to let some time pass and more information on this project come out before any real judgements are made.

  26. Magnet_Man says:

    Banpresto!? ****ing sold!!

I was planning on getting a JPN 3DS for whenever Ace Attorney 5 came out but this will just sweeten the pot since Bandai-Namco has never been too reliable on localizing niche games.

  27. Matthew says:

@Rayge: More like Resident Soul Hedgeman!

  28. Banpresto.. *NERDGASM* With SRWs I can already imagine it… Zero will pilot Sanger Zonvolt’s Dygenguar and X like any partner would pilot Ratsel Feinschmecker’s Aussenseiter.

TROMBE OVERRIDE featured by Zero and X, while they perform Tatsumaki Zankantou.

Or if you prefer cuting dancing steps
    ROYAL HEARTBREAKER!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz0nBQyWOsA&fmt=18

    THERE IS NOTHING…
    WHAT WE CANNOT CUT!

    CHESTO!!!

  29. I did not know about this. Thanks for posting it. I hope it’s Super Smash Bros 4.

  30. Zosha says:

    @YoshiAngemon
And everyone outside of Japan are not good for this one too, considring what happend with FE12.

  31. Phaelin says:

    Banpresto? Not coming to America!

    *goes back to Fire Emblem*

  32. Munchy says:

Whatever it is, it will be extremely underwhelming.

  33. NewEraOutlaw says:

    Mega Man x Sonic / Pac-Man

  34. Masterge77 says:

I’ve got a BAD feeling about this, I can feel it in my stomach that something really bad is about to happen involving this games pre-release…

  35. RegalX7 says:

Uhh… Well, I hope it comes out here, whatever it is. It’s hard for me to get hyped for it until I know what it even is. Come to think of it, I’ve never played a game by Banpresto, so I don’t really know what to expect…

  36. Airman says:

Unless they tell us that for sure Mega Man or one of his iterations is going to be in it then I really don’t care about this game.

  37. Name (required) says:

    @Redmage: gratz dude, they’re a great read.

Now you’ll have to collect all of the variant covers.

  38. LanceHeart says:

Calling it now: Hyper Mega Man and Mecha Sonic in SRW.

Also: We’re not getting the game if it includes any other SRW franchises.

  39. Murkman says:

All people can do for now is speculate.

Maybe it will be a SRW style tactical that doesn’t involve giant robots, for example?

  40. This have potential. If it’s released.

Anyway, it’s nice seeing Capcom and Sega together. It increases my hopes in seeing Archie making Mega Man and Sonic crossover.

  41. DLVargas says:

The official site certainly has a very…bio-research lab feel to it, which suggests Resident Evil, but Bandai-Namco is kinda known for it’s fighting titles.

…A Resident Evil 3D fighter? I really don’t know what to make of this one.

  42. Writteninblue says:

Given the Banpresto sanction, something in my gut tells me it’s more than likely a Super Robot Taisen crossover title. Which would be incredible, since now we would have possible IPs like Virtual-On and Tech Romancer/Cyberbots to join the roster. Maybe, if we’re lucky, we may have mascot support from either Rockman or some kind of Metal Sonic counterpart.

Not sure what to make of it. Just a feeling. However I will be keeping close attention to this. Who knows? We may get a wildly new IP altogether.

  43. Redmage1987 says:

    @LBD “Nytetrayn”: Thanks!

@Glitcher: I got the message telling me I won them on the 24th.

@ZeroX_Syaoran: Lol, this will be my first time reading any of them. I look forward to it.

@Name (required): Thanks! I bet they are, I can’t wait to read them!

  44. kahu says:

Banpresto specializes in RPGs, Action RPGs, and SRPGs.

Coincidentally, Bandai and Namco are now the same company, and Banpresto is currently a Bamco subsidiary. And they tied SRW and Namco X Capcom into the same multiverse.

Capcom doesn’t give a damn about anything except knockoffs and bastardizations anymore, so they’re probably on there in name only.

Sega…primarily has Sonic, but they also have Bayonetta and the likes as their IP.

Now, given Xenoblade’s recent release in the US, Atlus publishing both Endless Frontier games, and how a large number of IPs from all companies involved are in their anniversary season…

…Personally, I’d like to bet on Endless Frontier 3 with Namco X Capcom gameplay, to eventually lead into some sort of massive master plan Bamco has for SRW and NxC.

  45. Anonymous says:

Only a matter of time until it gets cancelled.

  46. Munchy says:

Mario and Sonic’s Rockboard. Calling it now.

  47. DarkonFullPower says:

    @Munchy
A Mario game without Nintendo? :/
