Share Your Thoughts on Mega Man’s Quirky Spinoffs on I Am Error
We all love Mega Man here. I mean, why else would we be on a Mega Man fan site? But even dedicated fans will admit that some of the oddball spinoff games the blue bomber has starred in aren’t exactly the greatest thing in the world.
Games like Mega Man Soccer, Battle & Chase, and Super Adventure Rockman may not be the highest points in the franchise, but the shared weirdness factor each game has makes them ripe for interesting discussion.
This is where you come in. I Am Error, a new podcast over at WingDamage.com, takes a look at a handful of weird and wacky games each month with a specific theme. For their second episode, they will be discussing some of Mega Man’s non-platforming adventures in the world of soccer, racing, and… well… whatever it is you want to call Super Adventure Rockman.
In preparation for the show, a post is up with a very brief look at the games that will be discussed. But they need your input! Send them your thoughts or questions about the games and they will read and discuss them when the show is recorded later in the month. You can either email them to podcast@wingdamage.com or leave a comment directly on the post.
Be sure to look for it when the show drops. Schedules permitting, you might even hear a guest from right here on The Mega Man Network.

What’s wrong with MM Soccer? Yeah it may not have been the best game ever slated by the SNES but it was still charming and enjoyable.
I would have enjoyed Mega Man Rugby much more. I mean, they ARE combat robots.
It seems criminal to talk about weird Mega Man spinoffs and not talk about Rock Board.
And don’t give me the only in Japan excuse if they’re going to talk about Super Adventure Rockman.
Mega Man Soccer was hilariously incomplete. Sometimes my friends and I throw it in the SNES just to play awkwardly and laugh at it. XD
I personally love Battle and Chase.
Man mainfinger, after seeing most of your content of discussion, it seems like your most interested in poking at these oddball spinoffs more than anything, (even the music of the series) then again I don’t follow WingDamage.. Anyhow here’s my 2cents… Power Battle was weird, I found those games pointless. I mean what were those games about, easy random boss fights? I can see it working in arcades, but I’ve never played those versions… SAoR I can’t say much on the gameplay of it, but from what I know off of online videos and such, it’s fun to watch.. B&C should have waited for better hardware, it seems too ambitious for the console that it occupied. I think Capcom should have waited and studied the genre a bit more before execution, it was still alright with me though(especially in concept), good soundtrack too.. Rockboard… This is literally the only Rockman game I’ve never played, seen nothing.. Soccer uh.. hmm… I don’t know what to say about that game.. I’m not saying it’s bad or good, I just don’t think I can analyze it in depth like that.. I can’t think of anymore unless stuff like the WonderSwan Rockman&Forte game, and Rockman&Forte count. I haven’t played tennis.
Battle and Chase is seriously underrated says I.
Battle and Chase gave us an awesome Ariga manga, so I couldn’t complain even if I thought it was bad.
So does rockboard even exist? Cause I have heard of it, but seen nothing of it ever.
Wes here, writer of the words.
The three games we pick each month need to be easily accessible. Battle & Chase and Rockman were easy to get; For Super Adventure Rockman, though, we had to resort to watching a play-through of it on Youtube. Clicking play and then watching something doesn’t seem to be too far removed from the actual gameplay, though.
I know there are likely more interesting titles, but these worked best for us.
I said “though” twice. I hate myself.
@Matthew: Absolutely. There’s even a fan-made patch for a (somewhat awkward) English translation.
