Old Mega Man Docs Reveal Interesting Art

A user by the name of Buyatari has uncovered an interesting collection of materials, seemingly distributed by Capcom back in the days for various purposes. They include things like character model sheets, ad mock ups, and concept package designs. Lots of rare and fascinating stuff!

Some of it gets pretty out there. A Mega Man 2 toy line? Ground Man in the Mega Man Mania box concept?? Mega Man X Soccer??? I would love to know the story behind how and why much of this stuff was made!

You can check out many more materials on this Digitpress forum post. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, Buyatari!

I’ve bought some Mega Man stuff from him before. A real nice guy.He has WAY,WAY more rare Mega Man (and other rare gaming stuff) than this. I just don’t see how he constantly finds all this stuff. It’s uncanny.

The second picture in the article could have been a very early box-art design for Mega Man & Bass.

  3. MEGA MAN X SOCCER?! What the Reploids?!

And that pic with X and Zero looks like a prototype of the X3 intro. (It’s in the forum link.)

@Arc: Actually that’s box art (concept-wise though adapted later) for Mega Man Mania.

I like the Classic Mega Man fighting Launch Octopus and Cruizilizer concept. Oops.

    But these are pretty cool.

So you’re telling me I could be playing Mega Man X Soccer?!

I would like my congartulations in 20XX size, please!

Hoo boy does that second box art look bad. It’s kind of awesome to see what an old box art style cover of Mega Man and Bass might have looked like, though.

I have a vague recollection of some artwork for Mega Man Mania which had some robots from 5 and.. maybe 6? I forget, but it looked like the Americans’ preemptive assumptions about what would be contained in the Game Boy MM5.
