DASH 3 Reparations from the Japan Side

Kind of tough to believe it’s been over two months now since Legends 3 was cancelled. Time sure flies when, uhh… you’re feeling pretty crappy. Nevertheless, atop all the apologies and condolences, “reparations” were promised to those Devroom members whose work was already selected to be used in the cancelled title.

In Japan, it appears those are finally starting to arrive. Pictured above are the contents of an envelope received by CAP Kobun (whose Donner Wels mecha design was selected as the basis for the Bonne mecha revealed in the Prototype Version). They include a letter, a Servbot image saying “Thank you! From all the DASH 3 team at Capcom. 2011″ and two mobile cleaners. The mobile cleaners appear to be goods that were originally planned to be offered at Capcom’s 3DS trial event in Akihabara, which was cancelled in the wake of the Touhoku earthquake and tsunamis. You can see more pictures of the goods in his post.

I’m actually unaware what the status is on presents coming to western Devroom members, but I don’t believe it’s been announced still (I may have just not seen, though). That being the case, it will probably not be much longer now, though the contents may differ than what’s showing here of course. Keep an eye on the mail or await further word from Capcom.

    Dangflabbit, where’s my game Capcom?!

    Though I gotta admit, this is a sweet move by the dev team. And that makes me think about what Capcom has lost that fateful day: Not just fans, not just followers, but their main goal: CASH. Oh the possibilities had that day never occurred. Capcom being number 1 one of them. Oh Capcom. :(

  2. I’m sure that even the fans who are getting these items from Capcom are likely saying the following
    ” I don’t want this sh**!!! I want the Game!!! >=( “

  3. Tornado man says:

    That is so not enough. Guy should have gotten a copy of prototype.

  4. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    I’m glad the winner got something in return thats what intially got me into arms. The people who put the time and effort and won those art contests still what remains to be said of the westerners that won the later contests.

  5. Jose says:

    Smart move though I feel that CAPCOM has a lot of work to do.

  6. Kingdom_Key says:

    Kinda pisses me off how the Servbot looks HAPPY when the game’s no more:(

  7. Trigger says:

    A hand-drawn Servbot and a couple of mobile cleaners.

    If I’d been one of the winners and that was my “compensation” for being told my ideas were now useless and the game was never going to be made, I’d be mad as hell.

    Capcom, you are a cheap bastard. I agree with Tornado Man.

  8. Phaelin says:

    “You may have won the only thing you will ever win in your short little existence, but too bad, here’s a doodle and some stuff we had in the basement.”

  9. stealthwoman says:

    what the hell? capcom are you frickin’ kidding me? I am still disappoint. This will not make up from what they have done!

  10. MegaFan says:

    Thats it!??? Thats all they get of those who worked hard on their designs and ideas! A stupid drawing anyone can do, and two cellphone things! Thats like Capcom is just throwing you junk in your face and saying “There, happy?!” Thats worse than getting nothing! You figure a very limited edition figure or something, but a stupid drawing! Or a check, oh wait… Capcom is greedy, they won’t give you some of their money.
    Thats just garbage. F*** YOU CAPCOM!!!

  11. Skybane_Zero says:

    Crap, the winners would have been better off with servbot bobble buds.

  12. glitchy says:

    Laaaaaame.

  13. DavCube says:

    “From the DASH 3 Team At Capcom”

    But I thought WE were the ones making the game, not you!

    This just reeks of them going “Oh yeah, there were those guys. Give those rabid dogs some two-second doodle and things we have lying around in the office, that should keep them away for a while.”

    Stay classy, Capcom.

  14. Bluebomber says:

    What?! Are you kidding me? A doodle of a servbot and two crappy mobile screen cleaners? Sure, Capcom, that TOTALLY makes up for Legends 3.

  15. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    Still that something should of been a bit more ,but I don’t want to make anymore punches at it.

  16. Tornado Man says:

    I would make a youtube video of me burning it and post it on Unity.

  17. striderreimu says:

    LOL Capcom you bastard

  18. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    @Tornado Man

    Thats a bit extreme ,but I can’t say I blame you either personally I would just not open the package if I already knew what was inside of it and simply lock it away for all eternity in my lock box.

  19. TTL says:

    Wait . . . these gifts are from the actual Dash 3 TEAM, right? The people we like? Who wanted/want to make the game?

    Why are we mad at them for giving something to the fans involved? Isn’t it in this case the thought that counts?

    Capcom is a big company so try and level hatred specifically. Quite a few people working there don’t deserve your ire.

  20. Axl-fox says:

    and here I was thinking the winners would get something pretty like…dunno, any of the Kotobukiya’s figures?or some super-rare megaman merchandise?

    But I guess Capcom’s too greedy even for that.

  21. Nick says:

    trololol here is a doodle.

  22. DJ Schway says:

    I appreciate the sentiment, but I find that compensation too be a bit lackluster. If Nintendo can reward Platinum members with a neato little statue of Mario characters, it seems like Capcom could do the same especially since the amount of them they’d have to make would be quite small. Just imagine a small statue of Mega Man, Roll, Barrell, a miniature Flutter and Data… that would have warmed my heart.

  23. DJ Schway says:

    Double post status!

    Or how about a little statue of Mega Man huddled up and crying on the moon. :P That would have been most fitting!

  24. Munchy says:

    Screw you Capcom.

  25. Munchy says:

    To the MML3 team, thanks for trying.

  26. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    Oh well again as long as the winners get something simple or complex thats fine. I just hope the westeners who won the later contests are a bit more accepting than myself.

    @DJ Schway

    Okay I guess?

  27. Dashe says:

    I’d be okay with anything but another bobble budd. Satisfied? Not until we get the game back. But I will accept other Legends stuff in the meantime.

    That’s been my beef with Capcom lately–they’ve been totally ignoring Legends in its entirety since the cancellation. It’s extremely cowardly of them and makes them look awful, and I’m certainly not going to just sit down and let them try and write my favorite Mega Man series out of existence. >:| So even getting a little phone wiper and a doodle of a servbot makes me feel a tiny bit better, because (the doodle, at least) means they are at least acknowledging it EXISTS.

  28. McWhalen says:

    That was………….

  29. Duckaiser says:

    So much hate. I hope you realize all the hatred and spite accomplishes is making the Mega Man fandom look like a bunch of angry brats? No, that’s an understatement.

    Analogy time! Capcom has been making Mega Man games for a long time, and you’ve gotten a few of them. You like Capcom because they give you stuff. Capcom stops giving you stuff, and now you hate them and want them to die. Your parents have been giving you stuff for a long time. You like them because they give you stuff. Once you get out of high school. they stop giving you stuff, and now you hate them and want them to die. Wait, what the hell?

    Eh, not the best analogy, but my point is, that most of you loved Capcom for a long time and now that they are treating your favorite series poorly you want them to crash and burn? Overreacting much?

    Keep in mind that the DevRoomers who won stuff actually weren’t obligated to ANYTHING once the game was cancelled. A lot of companies wouldn’t bother doing anything. Sure, maybe it could have been better, but it’s SOMETHING.

  30. DJ Schway says:

    @Duckaiser:

    I’m gonna add to your analogy: You’ve been waiting for years for your parents to buy you a car. They’d bought some for your brothers so you’ve gotten a taste of it, but you just can’t wait until you finally get your own. Your parents then say “We know you’ve been waiting for a long time, and guess what! You’re getting one soon!” Then all of a sudden they say “Oh instead of just getting you that car, we’re going to get you a motor scooter first. How much you enjoy that will decide whether or not we get you the car.” Then finally, after a few months of them not really talking about it, they say “Nevermind. You don’t get anything.”

    It’s understandable to be upset at being jerked around like that. I’ve cooled off a bit, so I don’t utterly hate Capcom like I used to… but people are angry. It’s only been two months since it was cancelled and we have yet to see any evidence that Capcom wants to continue Mega Man outside of re-releases and merchandise. Give it time and a bit of good news, and people will cool off.

  31. #20 says:

    Can only repeat what was already said, this in no way seems compensatory to what they otherwise would have gotten from seeing their ideas come to life in the game itself. This is not impressive, and I doubt it will quell any of the disappointment they’ve dished out in its stead.

    Gotta say though, I do like Capcom’s custom envelope design.

  32. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    @Duckaiser

    Unfortunately hate takes time to lose steam I already know that it will take time before my anger to lose its effect over me. I’m over total rage ,but there is only a small amount left. My apologizes of course. I think I can finally say that yes those skilled few deserve a lot more because its those who proved worthy in my eyes to get that far and be a part of what was awesome.

    The Devteam already has my respect as well because talking to one of them actually put me at a better place than I was before. It was also nice to get a critique as well to what I could of done to improve my centeurion design for the Reaverbot Contest which was after the contest of course is when I got the P.M back. The was great expierence for me and a memory I will not forget.

  33. Omar says:

    @ #20

    That’s a regular envelope with a strip of what looks like my servbot art on it. Haha.

  34. glitchy says:

    @Duckaiser:

    Three things. First off, a company is in no way similar to parenting. They don’t give us stuff, they sell us stuff, and there’s a big difference between the two. Second, one doesn’t have to love all of Capcom to love their franchises, they can make good games and still be a deplorable company to their staff and customers. Third, even if the analogy to parenting worked somehow, “Papcom” would be more like the parent who started penny-pinching, and then destroyed a sentimental item the two of you were building together since he didn’t want to spend the money to finish it. You can live without it, but damn if your heart wasn’t broken in two.

    “that most of you loved Capcom for a long time and now that they are treating your favorite series poorly you want them to crash and burn? Overreacting much?”

    Well that’s a little contradictory. It stands to reason that if the company’s treating your favorite series with nothing but contempt, of course people are gonna be angry about it. Most of those fans are angry because they cared, not because they just want to give Capcom a hard time. I’m not a gung-ho Legends fan, but even I was disgusted by how shamefully that cancellation was handled.

  35. Duckaiser says:

    Maybe it was a bad analogy. It’s just that my point is some of these people who now want Capcom’s HQ to spontaneously combust liked some of Capcom’s other things too. I don’t know. Well, and they couldn’t make ANY Mega Man games anymore if they were destroyed. It’s just too much spite.

    I know they are exaggerating, but just be careful what you say. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between an idle threat and a declaration of a criminal act.

  36. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    @Glitchy

    Capcom has always been my favorite gaming company since I was small and its hard to see good things they make now turn into something you’d least expect.

    Let’s see if I had to name a list of the series they made I have liked.

    Ghosts and Goblins
    Megaman
    Devil May Cry
    Veiwtiful Joe
    Resident Evil
    Street Fighter
    VS series

    These were great series for their time ,but its sad that Capcom has been making odd or dumb decisions in each series.

    I don’t think I need to remind anyone what each seems either dumb or odd. So perhaps their is some things I’m not accepting. Correcton I think GaG had an arcade port, a nintendo port, a remake for PSP and Arthur and company have appeared as cameo characters in multiple games usually crossovers ,but for the most part Arthur hasn’t had a real game sequel. At least one I am not aware of…?

  37. DJ Schway says:

    @ManwholovesRockamusic:

    Ultimate Ghosts’n Goblins was as much a remake as Super Ghosts’n Goblins was back in the day. That is to say, it’s not a remake, it just doesn’t have a new plot. That’s just how the series is though… kinda like Mario but even less variation since Mario switches things up a bit here and there. (I’m talking strictly the side-scrolling games.)

    O.S the another winner of other contest found the small sign of Elysium on the backside of that Thank you paper

    @DJ Schway

    I knew I was missing something thanks. Yeah I see your point. Still how much odd or dumb decisions can a guy who liked capcom games take?
