It’s OtaRockman 2011! Learn How You Can Be a Part!
Next weekend, from July 29th to 31st, Otakon returns to the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland, and as always, the Mega Man fan gathering “OtaRockman” will be there as well!
Events kick off with the annual panel, “Mega Man: Made in Japan,” a co-production of The Mega Man Network, Rockman.EXE Online, and Stardroids.net. It is currently scheduled to be held from 6:30 to 7:30pm on Friday in Panel 5. Two things about this one: the first is that panels are often subject to change in both time and the room in which they are held, so make sure to keep tabs at the convention in case it is moved or rescheduled.
The second thing is that, despite coming close to filling a room capable of holding 690 people last year, Panel 5 is only capable of holding 375 people. So if you want in, you need to make sure you arrive in time to line up before things get too busy. But then, who knows? Maybe a panel occupying a bigger room will open up and they’ll move us? You never know with these things.
In addition, we hope to give Capcom a good showing of solidarity among those attending the panel. To be a part, of this, click on the Servbot mask above to get a full-size version to bring out and use at the panel as we express our desire for Mega Man Legends 3, as well as Mega Man in general. Thanks to Servbot X for the contribution!
Oh, and as ever, there will be our annual raffle for lots of fun prizes!
On Saturday, the OtaRockman cosplay gathering will be held at 11am, behind the Starbucks on the second floor, near the main entrance. Following that, a Mega Man 10 “Endless Run” tournament will be held at noon this year. Sadly, there won’t be any trophies this time, but at least the winner will have bragging rights, and be able to gloat until they are pelted with foam Mega Buster bullets and swarmed by Servbot mask-wearing cosplayers (ideally led by a Tron cosplayer).
And the fun need not end there; Panel 5 will later play host to an unrelated Capcom fan panel from 11pm to 12am on Saturday night. While we encourage attending, and even bringing your Mega Man cosplay and Servbot masks, please don’t be unruly or disruptive; sure, there are a lot of hard feelings about Capcom right now, but given it says “fan panel,” we’re assuming that they are not actually affiliated with Capcom, and are not deserving of having their weekend ruined.
Those who enjoy the musical stylings of Brentalfloss will be pleased to know that he will be holding a live FAQ at Panel 6 from 12:30pm to 1:30pm on Sunday.
And finally, former Black Ranger and current voice of Zero, Johnny Yong Bosch, will be a guest at the convention with his band, Eyeshine. Plus, UDON’s Mega Man Tribute cover artist Jeffrey “Chamba” Cruz will be in the Artist’s Alley, so stop by if you get a chance!
It’s shaping up to be a great weekend, and we hope to see you all there!

brentalfloss?! Nooooo! Now I REALLY wish I could go. Maybe next year, or something.
DASH and Legends are different names for the same franchise. We need to stay united, accept each other’s mottos.
This, shall be our common motto:
“One More DASH. Legends Never Die.”
Translate it. Spread it. Make sure that DASH stays DASH in pronounciation. Make sure that Legends stays Legends or Legend in pronounciation. Show that we’re a united force around the globe, everybody. Twitter, facebook, youtube, anything. Do it and show our love for this franchise.
Ok, so it’s copypasta. But hey, we need to be aware of fans other than those in the USA, too. The USA alone isn’t going to get DASH back. But the world? Maybe it just might.
Make sure to keep the motto going strong and mention our movement, facebook pages, DASH 3 fan projects, and such! This is a perfect chance to rally the troops.
One of these days, I’ll be able to make it to OtaRockman. At least I’ll have an envoy of sorts this time. She’ll probably be wearing my crocheted Mega Man helmet. Say hi if you see her.
WHY DOES JOHNNY YONG BOSCH VOICE EVERYTHING EVER.
@HeatPhoenix
I didn’t mind him at first, now he is everyplace. EVERYPLACE I tell ya what.
However, that Servebot mask is kind of cute in a way.
I am actually one of the panelist for the Capcom fan panel at Otakon. We areas you expected just a group of fans. Trust me we do sympathize with the cancellation of MML 3 (one of our panelist was working on a Aero cosplay and droped it after hearing the news this week). The panel is a presentation over the history of capcom and we take a look at quite a few of the franchises. We’ve done it at sevral conventions and we usually a good show. We’ve been very worried about how the panel would go after all the bad news this week, and capcoms poor handling of it. Thank you so much for encouging ppl not to disrupt our panel this eases some of our groups worries.
Allie: No problem; while we expected some disruptive behavior at SDCC due to actual staff being there, it still isn’t really encouraged by MMN, though at that point, I don’t think anything we said would deter anyone. I just hope tempers cool enough by Otakon, and that people will make the distinction.
All of that said, I’m not sure what my personal schedule for Otakon is shaping up to be yet (outside of the MM stuff, of course), but I do hope I’m able to get by and see the panel!
This neatly solves all my cosplay problems for Otakon this year.
I’d surely go if I lived in the US.
Sounds hella fun, wish I could go
I’ll be there!
Too bad I don’t live anywhere near Maryland, I would really love to be a part of my favorite video game series, and get to meet Johnny Yong Bosch (yeah, I’m his fan and I don’t care that he has a role in everything. The same could be said for Vic Mignogna and Steven Blum, whom I’m also both a fan of).
Anyway, let’s hope this event will show Capcom that there still are Megaman fans who haven’t forgotten about our favorite blue bomber.
Man, wish I could be there : (
Johnny Yong Bosch is a swell voice for Zero, but I miss the hell out of Lucas. Wish I could attend this year’s otakon.
I will be there. But I won’t be a square. *bricked* Do we need my TV again this year, or is it already covered by somebody else (as it was last year)?
Everbound: If you can reach Terra or Ryouko, they might be better people to ask than I am.
Wish I could go to this,if not for anything other than meeting fellow fans. Meeting Johnny Yong Bosch would be cool as well because he’s from my hometown and I love his work.
In regards to Brentalfloss….the guy can’t sing at all,but I do appreciate the fact that he is a big Mega Man fan.
Here’s an idea in case anybody needs a cosplay outfit. Mass Kobuns. I say have 100 Kobuns show up at the same time.
I’ll be dressed as Heatman~ Also, I think someone I know will be going as Tron. Not 100% sure though
You should take some pre-made masks with you and hand them out
@gutsman004
The man can sing well, it’s your opinion that you don’t appreciate it however.
Aipe, it that’s me you’re mentioning- you’re right. (it’s me quick from the RP)
I’ll be showing up. My friend and I will hopefully be passing out the masks to people. (he said he’s printing out 40. I lol’d)
Also- i’m making a sign to get awareness of the chance to bring MML3 back!
