CyberConnect2 CEO Would Love to do Legends 3

(Hey I’m back.) Some have hoped Keiji Inafune’s Intercept could adopt Mega Man Legends 3 and finish off the project. While Inafune has not expressed any interest so far, CEO and President of CyberConnect2, Hiroshi Matsuyama, indeed has. In speaking with the CEO, Siliconera asked what Capcom property he’d like to work on in the future. The response:

“It would be Mega Man Legends 3,” exclaimed Matsuyama in a Siliconera interview. “I really like the series!”

While this is just Matsuyama’s own hope, it could hold some steam for two reason. First, CyberConnect2 is already collaborating with Capcom in creating the game Asura’s Wrath, due out in 2012. Second, CyberConnect2 is the developer behind the games Tail Concerto and the much more recent Solatorobo: Red the Hunter, both of which draw a fair amount of comparisons to the Legends games, just furrier.

I do still question the likelihood of this happening, mostly because Legends 3 was being developed with MT Framework, Capcom’s proprietary game engine. I don’t believe Capcom licenses out this engine to other developers so far. But with the amount of outcry there is to revive the game, this could potentially be a way for Capcom to please fans and reduce the amount of perceived risk on their end.

Still, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend people go out and buy Asura’s Wrath in hopes of getting Legends 3 thereafter.

Thanks to Razor for the tip.

    YES PLEASE,

  2. Randy says:

Please, Matsuyama, help us realize our dreams!!

  3. Nemnya says:

Wasn’t this information covered in the last news post?

  4. Heat Man says:

Incidentally, I would think Matsuyama is being quite sincere. I saw him give a presentation at Captivate for Asura’s Wrath, and the man is very passionate for games; very much has an Ono-like sense of enthusiasm and charisma.

@Nemnya: Someone told me as much, but I haven’t even seen it yet since I’m just now really returning to work on TMMN. Also my post is awesome for its image.

  5. Nick says:

im still boycotting capcom games until i see legends

  6. Nevets Adecuas says:

Do it get Inafune team up and make an epic game for the fans

  7. Nemnya: Heat Man apparently doesn’t like my writing enough to actually read any of it. ;P

  8. Unknown says:

As I said in the earlier post…

These people are reputable for making bad-ass games. Have get notes for the story, from the previous devroom team, and let them go all-out.

It’s infinitely better than letting things end like this.

  9. Heat Man says:

@BD: Get back to me on that whenever you start listening to the Megacast. :I

  10. Kamurotetsu says:

I’m gonna buy Asura’s Wrath, not because I think It’ll help me to get Legends 3, but because I love this guys now. :P

  11. Sammy says:

    Oh god, yes, please.

  12. Mega Man X Zero says:

CC2 is also very well-known for the .hack franchise, so any help they can give for Legends 3 would probably go a long way. (now if only Bandai Namco US would cough up .hack//Link…) Hell, when I mentioned this to some people I know who weren’t even Mega Man fans, they said they’d give Legends 3 a shot if CC2 made it.

  13. Grid Man says:

    Never heard of them.

    I say yes. =)

  14. Please please please please please! This guy is officially 100% awesome.

  15. Aaron says:

If they can remain true to the spirit of Legends, then I’m all for it.

  16. bob says:

Yeah, they will make it for free!

  17. Gaia says:

Cyberconnect2 also teamed up with NamcoBandai to make the .//Hack games. So, hell yeah!

  18. Thormeister says:

Y’know, this is really saying something when other companies are willing to pick up where Capcom left off to finish this game! If they can see just how much we want this game, why can’t Capcom?

  19. drsypher says:

Oh man, these are the dudes who made the .hack// games! I’d be so okay with this; I love those!

  20. As much as I hate to be a downer here, but I don’t see MML3 getting picked up.

    *WARNING! CONSPIRACY THEORY!*

Since it is technically a game of Inafune’s, he’ll most likely get a portion of the profits the game makes in sales if it gets made.

That’s one of the reasons why I think it got canceled in the first place and then UMvC3 was announced. If MML3 got released, it was guaranteed to make more money than UMvC3 and Niitsuma was not going to let that happen since UMvC3 is his game.

  21. RandyPandy says:

It’d be cool if this happened, but I’m not gonna be getting my hopes up again.

  22. St. McDuck says:

I was gonna buy Solatorobo for DS anyway, but especially now that I know the guys at CyberConnect have such good taste.

  23. Rollzlx says:

I’m totally on board! Let’s not give up on this dream we’re had for over ten years!

  24. G Lux says:

    OMG, YEAH!

They made the .hack series, they’d be perfect for the task.

  25. Memor-X says:

honestly, even though i would love Legends 3 to come out and CC2 can do that and very well infact but i rather if they bloody localized .Hack//G.U in PAL first insted of letting Bandai get away with giving us a cut down anime version of the 3 games

  26. rnn says:

I just stopped by to say that I like the picture. Or don’t. I get those two feelings mixed up a lot.

  27. Dr. Ciel says:

We believe in you CC2! Do it!

  28. DJ Schway says:

I could totally see Capcom being really douchey about this. They don’t want to make Legends, but I could see them also not wanting to outsource it, and/or wanting to take too much of the profits were it made.

  29. Mega Man X Zero says:

    @Memor-X
So you have it worse than us, huh? Bandai Namco’s just holding out on .hack//Link in the US. You’re missing the whole G.U. series. That sucks. (But that’s Bamco’s fault, not CC2′s). Shows Capcom ain’t the only ones losing it, I guess.

I’m still hopeful for how good things might get if CC2 revives the project, though. Especially since, to those familiar with their games, CC2 is just overall awesome. If they can make Legends 3′s soundtrack as epic as .hack//G.U.’s, I’m gonna have so much fun playing the game. I just hope they don’t program any bosses to be so damned annoying like the Phases or Cubia (if you want a poster child for That One Boss, .hack has a few).

  30. gutsman004 says:

Look at Capcom’s track record (more like rap sheet)…..they will never let this happen. They’re Capcom, and they hate us.

  31. Kamurotetsu says:

If they’d keep Barret in the game, count me hyped.

  32. Alyssa Watts says:

Hmm, this could be very interesting… but it could also be a very GOOD thing for fans if it comes through. Let’s hope so!

@Mega Man X Zero: Ah, you beat me to it! That’s okay. I was gonna mention CC2 was known for .hack especially .hack//G.U. (love that game!), but it’s great to know some others knows of .hack too. :D

  33. magmakensuke says:

@ Kamurotetsu: I couldnt help but feel that if there was a “lack of fan enthusiasm for the game” it was because of Barret. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a pretty cool character, but I felt like they didn’t focus on Megaman which is what the fans wants really.

I personally hope if CC2 does this game, that they will start from scratch. Maybe keep the Ideas for Barret and Aero. They could really create something wonderful if theyre not too limited from previous developement or limited by capcom creating too strict a guideline

  34. Masterge77 says:

The bad part is: If CC2 does make the game, there would be no devroom, and everything that was submitted to the devroom would not be in it, meaning that there would be no Barret, Aero, or Tinker the Ferret

  35. Misora88 says:

seriously? the developers of //hack and Solatorobo could help with legends 3? if so there might be hope, and if so could do better than capcom

  36. Munchy says:

Asura’s Wrath looks like a movie with occasional QTE segments so I’ll probably skip it. Solatorobo looks cute and I’ll give it a shot at some point.
