Mega Man Universe Gameplay Trailer

Well, immediately following my speculation post, here is our first look at Mega Man Universe’s gameplay! Which… appears to be some kind of polygonal Mega Man 2. No sign of any Kinect and Move usage, but the visual style is a little… interesting. Still, this only seems like just a taste of what to really expect.

We’ve updated with our own copy of the full length official trailer. Check after the break to see the other three individual character trailers.

Thanks, XHunter! [via Rockman AMV], Shoot Man

    @Randomguy: How is the level design bland? You might as well call the classic games’ level designs bland as well then. It’s faithful to the classic designs with some new twists. I don’t see a problem here. It looks really interesting, kind of like New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

  2. Dishface says:

    Honestly…I’m a bit disappointed…

    It looks great, I don’t mind the style that much, but so far it looks like a Megaman version of Super Mario Bros. Crossover. (http://supermariobroscrossover.com/ for those who don’t know)

    Whether this is a good or bad thing, I’m not sure. I’ll look forward to upcoming news about MMU! Rock on, guys.

  3. Bob says:

    @Aaron and everyone wondering Wii exclusion:

    A: Wii Ware games have a strict file sized limit and cannot be updated. If you don’t believe me just look at the Tales of Monkey Island games, they had to be compressed horribly just to fit. Now sure this trailer doesn’t LOOK like much but there’s really no telling how much space that would actually take up from a minute long trailer.

    B: If this is going to feature a level creator, Nintendo tends to force the usage of friend codes for any online interaction which would sort of mess up any sort of database like structure like Powered Up had.

    Sure it sucks but I can easily see why Capcom wouldn’t even bother with all the hoops Nintendo makes them jump through.

  4. Jamesman says:

    oh **** . . .

    I actually just realized that there were more trailers that show other versions of Mega Man. ‘_’;;

    . . . . my bad xD

    well, aside from that, I still think this’ll be a nice game. :)

  5. Forci says:

    I have no problem with the art design itself, but the character model…well, it needs work. The jumping animation is quite awkward, and the head is too large to the point of looking like a bobble head. :-/ Naturally, though, this is nowhere near as obvious with the Rockman model…

    @Bob:

    A. Off the top of my head, the Wii Ware game My Pokemon Ranch was updated in Japan to support a new release, so updates can be done.

    B. Friend Codes are not forced for *any* online interaction. Random matches exist in games such as “our own” Star Force 2 & 3. Nintendo also did non-Friend Code downloadable stages with Brawl, so there is precedent.

  6. Bob says:

    Yes but there was no DATABASE for the downloadable stages in Brawl it was just a random one every day.

    Also that still doesn’t help the forced size limit issue.

  7. Ian Dimas says:

    This looks pretty bad, I’m disappointed =/
    Like Forci said, I think the style itself is ok, but those models… Ugh… x__x

  8. Soong says:

    Hmm… what is up with all these mash up characters game thingy as the trend nowadays.. look at Castlevania Harmony Of Despair… this game is mehz expected something along the lines of X9 or at least X4 level graphics not this lousy 2.5 HD… mehness

  9. Mr.V says:

    Oddly enough,the shadow looks like 3D studio max shadow rendering… It give a little “fan-game” look.
    I’m usually an ultra fanatic Megaman fans ( I love every Megaman game,without exception… for now. ) but, here,it looks really odd. particularly on the enemies.

    There’s many things who interrogated me : in the Woodman-like stage sequence, the background is 8-bit… isn’t that a place-holder? we can clearly think that this is still a “beta”.
    It feel like the initial disappointment of Megamania for me : Maybe they add “colors” to this game too.

  10. Masterge77 says:

    People, stop complaining about this and comparing it to Rockman Online, it’s driving me nuts when I hear “I hate the game!”, “This game is crap!”, or “Rockman Online is better!”, get over it, this is what Capcom wants, SO GET OVER IT ALREADY!!!!!

  11. DarkDream says:

    @Masterge77

    On top of this, NO ONE KNOWS WHAT ROCKMAN ONLINE LOOKS LIKE. For all they know, it’ll look exactly like this game does with X characters.

  12. DuoDynamo says:

    Alright, NOW I’m upset this game is available only to consoles I don’t own.

  13. Mr.V says:

    @Masterge77

    I’m personally no complaining, i feel we doesn’t see everything, and Capcom is certainly hiding the better part, just to beat the worst troll ;)

    I’m personally waiting for it.
    I still hope for a “create your character” mode!

  14. pedro says:

    Besides Inafune said that there are going to be more characters, beside in that press conference he mentioned how different fans of the megaman/rockman franchise came into the fanbase with later series like, X ,Zero, ZX, Legends, Battle network, starforce. Let’s face it folks megaman/rockman has ALOT of characters =)
    He stated he wated fans to play as their IDEAL mega man, I thinks that there are alot of characters that will be available from various series of “The Megaman Universe”.

    Geez I feel like i just made an advertisement =/

  15. Random Guy says:

    @Tayo

    It’s like they took the blandest stages in Mega Man history and meshed them together. Plus, there aren’t many things going on. Very few enemies. I just think it’s meh. I’m not saying it’s going to be bad, I just thought the levels could look nicer.

  16. Random Guy says:

    @Tayo

    After rereading my first post, I should say that I was SLIGHTLY disappointed, not utterly disappointed.

  17. MarthKoopa says:

    I love the level graphics, not so much the character models… they seem like they’re from two different games

    And if this game will feature remixed music of every Mega Man tune like the one played in that trailer…. DEAR GOD I will wet myself for three days straight

  18. …Why would anyone want to play as Bad Box Art MegaMan? I do like that you can play as Ryu. Maybe other Capcom characters will be joining soon, like Morrigan, Jill Valentine, Dante, and Viewtiful Joe!

  19. pedro says:

    why WOULDN’T anyone want to play as bad box art mega man?
    he looks so epic, with his cool gun and his different design.
    I would love to play as BBA mega man.

  20. Matt says:

    NO_NAME: “There seems to be a little too much hate towards this. And people like Matt who have never had anything good to say about anything just annoy me.”

    Oh, I have a lot of negative things to say, but anyone who searches my name on this website could find plenty of positive comments- though I would point out for the sake of clarity that there is more than one Matt posting comments here.

    Second, my negative comments are perfectly justifiable. Right now, Keiji Inafune is doing a lot of stupid stuff. He’s constantly avoiding giving fans what they really want, and it’s not because he doesn’t know what they want. It’s either because he’s stupid, or he just plain doesn’t care.

    If you don’t like my comments, your complain is with Keiji Inafune, not me.

  21. NO_NAME says:

    @Matt
    Unfortunately not liking your comments brings my complaint to you. It is not that you don’t like how the game looks, but it is how you disresepect your elders and those who do more in a day than you will probably be able to accomplish in a life-time. Keiji Inafune is a man who has how many millions of people expecting him to do how many millions of things. He has a family, he has several businesses, namely a multi-billion dollar world industry Capcom which he is a very large part of, and you think that he should listen to people like you who have nothng nice to say?

    Therefore, calling him stupid is one of the most stupid things you can possibly do here. Now, I am assuming you are still a kid and have no sense of business and have no respect for people who deserve it. But if you even had the slightest idea of the pressures that someone as great as Inafune, then you would definately not be saying the types of things you do.

  22. DuoDynamo says:

    I don’t see why the Wii couldn’t handle this.

  23. TJ says:

    @DuoDynamo

    Probably because few WiiWare games would support DLC.

  24. Matt says:

    “but it is how you disresepect your elders and those who do more in a day than you will probably be able to accomplish in a life-time.”

    I’m sorry, but are you by any chance Daniel Walton?

    “and you think that he should listen to people like you who have nothng nice to say?”

    Again, that is simply false. Like I’ve already said, I’ve posted plenty of positive comments on this site.

    “Therefore, calling him stupid is one of the most stupid things you can possibly do here”

    You don’t get a rain-check for being stupid over a span of multiple years just because you’re busy.

    “Now, I am assuming you are still a kid and have no sense of business and have no respect for people who deserve it.”

    A truly Daniel Walton-esque remark. I know I couldn’t hold my job if I repeatedly ignored what my customers asked for. You try that at your job, and see how long you keep it. I doubt your boss will let the excuse of business justify the fact that you’re consistently not doing what you’re supposed to.

  25. DarKsidE555 says:

    Ugh…I’m not really comfortable with this. : /

    I can’t really say if it’s anything good or bad but to me it just looks like they simply thrown something together with no real idea behind it. “Hey, let’s just mash up a few VG characters in a Mega Man world”.

    Hmpf…We’ll see where this is going but my current interest in this is near to 0. :/

  26. J. L. says:

    DarKsidE555 said:

    “Hey, let’s just mash up a few VG characters in a Mega Man world”.

    Maybe that’s what the series needs, after several years of half-baked ideas and glorified ROMS. And this thing doesn’t even need a story; the Mega Man series went downhill when they tried to make a sci-fi saga of it (if they are going to make a sci-fi saga, thay should get rid of all the cartoonish nonsense and give us a real M rated game, M for Maturity, mind you).

    But since they are not going in this direction, they better give us a palatable mega man experience with what they have.

    Mega Man needs to be kept simple, but not in 8-bit or in those hideous cel-shaded pastel colors of the PS2 era.

    Simple but effective graphics in HD like these ones might be the solution to the rift Mega Man 9 and 10 created among gamers who like retro-graphics and those who like HD.

    These graphics combine the best of both 8-bit and HD worlds, IMO.

  27. J. L. says:

    In other words, that Mega Man needs to be FUN dosn’t necesarilly mean it has to be UGLY at the same time.

    You want 8-bit? Go dust-off your NES.

  28. Alex says:

    This looks so stupid. Maverick Hunter X was for PSP, and it looked 5 times better than this garbage! Bland level designs, no personality, ugh. I’m disappointed.

  29. Phaelin says:

    Kinda excited for it, but I just don’t know what to think. I mean, hopefully there’s some other stuff that will be going on for this game. Otherwise, it looks like Powered Up 2.0 which is just disappointing.

    On the note of MMPU, he did say he truly loved that game and hated it didn’t sell well, so perhaps he’s taking another stab at it? I don’t know, but I definitely need to see more before I say anything else.

  30. ManwholovesRockamusic says:

    Wow this went downhill fast.

  31. matchead says:

    This looks like a fan game. I’m all for MegaMan having updated graphics, but this game doesn’t look professional. The backgrounds look like 8-bit sprites, the characters appear to be weird 3d models, and everything else is just floundering in between. Unlike MegaMan 9 and 10, which sported lots of neat new obstacles and enemies, this game is nothing but platforms and ladders. The ability to play as different versions of MegaMan seems stupid and gimmicky.

    But yeah, this game mostly looks ugly.

  32. Fernando Medrano says:

    I thought that what fans really wanted was a fight game with all classic robot masters…I’d LOVE to play as snake man and hit some special moves into chargeman… and since it is universe.. what bad would do to include MMX, and hell, why not MM network as well…
    how about magna centipede vs storm eagle or protoman vs zero?
