Blast from the Past: CoroCoro’s Scoop on Rockman & Forte WS

We’re used to CoroCoro bringing us information about Mega Man’s future, but how often do we use it to look into Mega Man’s past? Here’s one such instance, with a CoroCoro scan all the way back from October of 1999. The contents is the upcoming Rockman & Forte WS, a Rockman game licensed by Bandai for their WonderSwan portable system. The game featured the heroes and music from Mega Man & Bass, but with all new wonky Robot Masters, and an arch nemesis modeled after, I kid you not, Quint. Yeah, that Quint.

The most notable thing about this old article scan is the artwork it features of Rockman Shadow (here just referred to as Shadow), and one of the Robot Masters, Dangan Man (“dangan” is Japanese for bullet). Truthfully I didn’t know such artwork even existed, and it makes me wonder where the other boss artwork might be. Especially considering another of the Robot Masters, Konro Man (portable stove), seems to be a favorite of Inti Creates and made a cameo in both ZX games.

The rest of the article just throws some hype at Rockman & Forte WS, and exhibits the vertical stage layouts thanks to the WonderSwan’s flippable design. Check after the break for the full page scan.

That flippable screen thing looks cool. Weird boss design though!

  2. neoboy3000 says:

I think I just saw those in my Mega Man CW book the other day…I’ll have to look again. Yeah, def one of the weirder parts of the franchise…

  3. Proto Stryker says:

Oh wow, I remember that Star Twins game. Except… wasn’t it called something completely different in the states?

  4. VileMKII says:

You made a typo “Rockman % Forte” I think you mean & :P

Anywho, nice to see art for R Shadow, he was always awesome

  5. Bassnium says:

    @Proto Stryker
    Jet Force Gemini

Apparently Japan is not void to localization.

  6. Gurp says:

For some reason I’m captivated by the quality of Quint’s art style.

  7. Omar says:

Quint looks like that yaranaika guy in this picture..

  8. Flame says:

Its not quint guys. Its Rockman Shadow. basically, another Copy Robot, made before Future Wily made Quint.

Finally, we get official colored art of him.

  9. RADIX says:

We FINALLY have some official art for MMnB WS? This makes me happy. :D

    …though I was kinda hoping M-Shadow wouldn’t be green.

  10. TJ says:

Cool, I was planning to bring back R-Shadow and the guys in a trilogy on my MM game project. Now I know Dangan’s official color. (he was a goldish brown in a pic I saw)

  11. TJ says:

Also, does this song sound good for Dangan Man? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMGs7HZLMEg&feature=related

  12. KK the Prophet says:

BulletMan actually looks better in the official art than he did in the game. Someone try to find the other Robot Masters.

  13. AmpJack says:

Man, how I loved Jet Force Gemini…A truly great game.

I’d love a redone, color version of RM&F WS.
    It’d be nice.

  14. Lux says:

I wish I could have played this… I love the RMs of this one.

  15. Bearmon says:

Awesome. Send it to Capcom of USA to bring it over to WiiWare. :)

  16. Nice to see that R-Shadow was green, and not the purple featured in fan-art.

  17. Keso_R says:

I agre with Bearmon. I’d like to see that game available here in the US.

  18. Masterge77 says:

Artwork of all the Robot Masters probably exists, but this is the only artwork we know exists, not even the Official Complete works artbook (buth japan and US versions) covers Rockman and Forte WS, so we have no Idea what colors the characters actually are, just Dangan Man

@Proto Striker Yeah, Jet Force Gemini, which basically means “twins”, after all, Megaman has had two bosses named “Gemini” (Gemini Man and Gamini Spark, three if you count Gemini from the obscure Taiwanese game Rockman Strategy)

@TJ Are you refering to the webcomic “Super Adventure Quint”?
