UPDATE: Rockman Zero Collection Gets a Trailer (now in English)
Looks like it didn’t take long at all for a trailer of the Rockman Zero Collection to drop. While the first half is a pretty straightforward gameplay montage of the series, the second half shows off a bit of the bottom screen. It’s hard to say much about it from what the trailer shows, but it looks like boss artwork is displayed on the bottom screen. There’s also some sort of menu that looks like it contains thumbnails of the artwork. It’s entirely possible that the bottom screen could be a dedicated art gallery, but hopefully this is only one of several functions.
The number one thing I took away from this trailer is that the music seems to be retained from the original instead of using the remasters. I doubt they’d show this trailer with the original GBA music if the music in-game was going to be the redone versions. Honestly, this isn’t too surprising considering the ridiculous amount of space it would take to contain 4 games worth of music in actual compressed audio instead of MIDI. Ah well.
Lastly, the mystery of the “extra logo” has been solved. It seems the rectangular slot on the official site that was previously empty has been filled in with a link to this very trailer which is embedded right below.
Update: Well it looks like there are at least 2 different functions for the bottom screen. While boss art and pics of Zero still look like they’re purely aesthetic, there’s another interesting thing shown. Protodude has pointed out on his blog that the other menu looks like Zero 3′s e-modification card menu.
“The Rockman Zero modification cards were cards sold exclusively in Japan in 2004, and when used with Nintendo’s e-Reader device, they would make minor modifications to Rockman Zero’s 3 gameplay. To accommodate for the lack of an e-Reader, Zero Collection looks to be implementing this system within the game itself. ‘Course, this is just speculation, so don’t take my word for it.” -Protodude
Very interesting indeed. A feature predicted by our own LBD “Nytetrayn”.

I didn’t expect Capcom to go the extra mile with the remastered music but damn, some artwork on the bottom screen?
Niceness! Now I’m pumped!
Watching this reminded me of my favorite moment in the series: the intro to Zero 2. I don’t know why, but the music and artwork in sync have some kind of impact ^_^
When they show the dual-screen shots, the bottom sure is artwork, but look and the top screen. Gameplay image isn’t at full square while some new mode (again with artwork) is. Rather, gameplay is shown at regular GBA resolution on DS screen.
What.
The.
Heck.
The art gallery function for the bottom screen is pretty sexy, but this is coming from someone who has all 3 art books, so I may be a little bias. I feel lame, but I’m not looking forward to playing these games without save states. Heh.
I’m glad they at least went ahead and put them all in one game, rather then just 1 or 2 of em. Gotta say though, already got all 4 on GBA, so I for sure won’t be buying this.
I’d buy 5 GB games on one cart though.
When and if this comes out, I’ll get it. The apparent fact that these games are literally straight ports of the Advance games doesn’t phaze me–it’s a 4 game collection on the DS after all. Extras are nice, but the point of these collections is to own all the games in one package at a decent price. That’s why, dissapointed though I was when all the extra stuff got yanked, I still bought and still play my MMX collection.
well ive only got Zero 3 and 2 and 4 are my FAVS so i will DEFINATLY be buying this…that is if it released Australia…
Pretty sure the bonus feature of the collection should be making the Chain Rod usable in every game. Lol.
We NEED a voiced title screen.
Rokkuman Zello Collection!
Awesome gonna totally get this if it gets a western release, I do hope they add more though, it’s still early right?
I wonder if all 4 games will have to be selectable on the main menu, most likely yes. I guess there won’t be much of a graphical or any other advancement. But I wonder if the elf system will be revamped throughout all 4 games or not. Oooh, I hope there’s more cutscenes and such.
I got them all lined up here as well but still going to get this.
I also want more save slots lol.
Right on! Time to bring back the cool that made the Handhelds worth while (that and Battle Network).
Though not complaining, does anyone else that Zero is getting “revived” one more time? lol. Actually, four times if you think about it.
Not sure if I want to suffer trying to beat all 4 of these again.
@ Valens
AGREED. the chain rod is sexy
Capcom doesn’t know what to do to earn more and more money.
Lately, Capcom disappoints me VERY MUCH.
Sweet. I’ll finally get to sink my teeth into the Zero series. I hope they keep the blood in.
I hope they revamp the first, it was easily my favorite ^w^
I hope this game gets a boss battle mode (with all weapons!) or a survival road like ZXA. Now that would be freaking awesome!
Seems cool but I don’t own a Ds so…
A DS Cart can hold at least 500 megs of data in it, if I recall correctly.
They fit RE1 in there!
Taking into account that the Zero games are around 8 megs each, that’s 32 megs on one DS cart. That leaves at least 300 megs free! I’m sure they could fit in the remastered tracks in there, but that would require removing the music from the original ROM’s.
I’m thinking it could be a nice bonus, unlocking the remastered tracks of each game.
Not sure if you guys remember, but a good chunk of the remaster tracks aren’t really that good. A lot of the original feeling gets lost compared to the GBA track… this is evident in the song everyone seems to love in this series, Cannonball.
I think I’m happier with them keeping the original music, but in a higher quality. The GBA version sounded cloudier. Compare the GSF sets to the trailer tunes.
Last part, this is not so much for people who already own the games but for newer fans. I for one see it as a way to let people know of the Zero series story before ZX3 comes out with all sorts of nods to the Zero series.
Well you know, I think this collection is pretty cool. I’m buying it. The music from these games seemed to be the their shining point, in my educated opinion, not to mention that they are based off of the gameplay mechanics of MMX.
Inticreates appear to be quite busy lately. I wonder what else they have up their sleeve…
@shake It’s usually not that simple. When games get ported to another system they can be very different sizes.
@STM ya some of it was hit or miss, but there were some mighty fine hits,
This trailer kind of lacked a punch in my opinion, buy overall I liked it.
Emuji, I am going to say that this will be a swing and a miss. Z4 has gotten soft on me in terms of difficulty. :/
Plus it’s a like TvC, to milk the red hero further.
The tinny remix annoyed me to no end, and I don’t think this promo is a patch on the original anime commercials for MMZ and MMZ2. Doesn’t Capcom make those any more?
“Rokkuman Zello Collection!”
More like Lokkuman Zello Correction! 8D
Even though I knew Remastered Tracks would take a quality hit due to compression, I still hoped they’d be featured (and STM, even if Remastered Tracks aren’t perfect, they still beat the hell out of plenty of other MM soundtracks, not the least of which is PS1 X3, and I still psyched to have that as part of XC). ’tis a shame.
But the Z3 e-Reader add-ons would be swell, as would MMZ on my DSi (damn phat DS broke its top screen). So, I’ll be watching this one.
I wonder what they’ll do about the difference in screen size.
What’s the point in including tracks from Remastered CDs, lol.
They could just resample it for DS synthesizer which sounds much better than GBA one any day.
I’m glad they didn’t use the remastered versions. The original music is better, the only problem is that is suffered from the sucky GBA speakers… at least it will sound slightly better on the DS.
MMZ music reminds me of DOOM music
Where is zero knuckle????
As much as I want to like the artwork on bottom screen feature, I can’t help but be dissapointed at the sight of it. Granted, I didn’t expect anything to go in there that would affect gameplay, but still.
Hopefully, they’ll let you customize the buttoms, because I intend to set up the controls like MMX for the SNES. I’m attacking with Y, not any other button.
@Duct Tape Ninja: If you look closely at the video, in parts where it shows both screens, they’re letterboxing it. Seriously, just putting a black border around everything. Way to kill the immersion, Capcom. It’ll just be kike playing a GBA game on the top screen.
@Daniel Lind: My thoughts exactly. They could at the very least recycle the ZX wavetable instead of just porting over the old songs as they are, but remember, this is Capcom we’re talking about. They’d rather waste time porting old GBA audio code then put in (less) effort to integrate perfectly working DS audio code.
If Capcom ever wonders why their rereleases don’t ever sell too well, they need only look in a mirror.
Not to say I won’t be buying this the moment it hits shelves, or importing if it doesn’t make the leap. I just wish they could have at least tried to actually improve the games. I already have the artbook, I don’t need it on my DS.
Still, it’s not out yet, so maybe the trailer is just using old footage they had lying around. I certainly hope that’s the case.
I really wish Capcom would show some regard for concerns like those highlighted in the comment of Moogle Warrior and Daniel Lind. If it’s really easier to make it better, just…what the hell? It’s confounding. That’s the kind of thing that needs a straight answer from them, instead of them showing up here to do damage control for bad publicity, someone at Unity should forward stuff like that. They could at least have an ANSWER, even if they don’t do anything.
yeah, I agree about the controls, I hate playing the GBA games on the DS. also, we have 2 extra buttons, I’d like for them to be used for something.
what would be amazing, would be a collection mode where you can play through all 4 as if they were one game, and keep all your weapons, and use the extra 2 buttons for more weapons. Even if they don’t, there are enough buttons to assign one for each weapon.
but they’re prolly not gonna do too much to upgrade the games, though the chain rod would rock in the other games (though would probably break them)
bionic commando! woo!
The Zero series is awesome and will continue to be as such, even without remastered tracks (which were comparable to the Megaman 9 AST and wouldn’t fit well in gameplay). Capcom half-asses lot’s of things but, who can complain? I mean it IS four games in one, not to mention four totally bitchin games.
Wait a minute. Zero isn’t a reploid!
Well, cool stuff.
I’ll have to get it.
The music is different, right?
I have it here.

O_O OMG! Few of my friends were just talking about this game. It does look cool. AND I GET TO BATTLE MY FAVORITE GENERAL AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!
btw. My favorite General is Fighting Fefnir/Valiant Fafnir. ^_^
