Get to know your Mega Man 10 Robot Masters
Following this week’s crazy news, Capcom of Japan has now updated their Rockman 10 homepage with the Robot Master profiles. Since you may not read Japanese, here is a rundown of each Robot Master’s characteristics.
Commando Man: A robot created for removing land mines. His typical work involves operating bombs by remote control to take out a series of mines at once. He receives many requests for activity around the world, and is often very busy. It’s said he enjoys tasting the oil from different parts of the world. His special weapon is Command Bomb, which creates a powerful explosion.
Nitro Man: A stunt robot who’s worked on movies and television. With his expert riding technique, he answers the demands of even the most dangerous directors. He’s also the leader of a 60 member robot stunt club. He can transform into a motorcycle and race around at high speed.
Blade Man: Created as a guide robot for a castle at a world heritage site. The castle’s lord was an immense sword enthusiast, which is how Blade Man got his design. He’s incredibly knowledgeable of weapons and blades, and once he gets talking about them he tends not to stop. This sometimes makes tourists grow tired and leave. He can speedily move around as if he were dancing about the air.
Sheep Man: Originally a robot created to manage sheep on a ranch. One day he became aware of the static electricity stored in his wool, and changed careers to giving lessons about static resistance at a circuit board factory. However, he’s gotten wary of this and is considering changing jobs again. He can divide his body into cloud-like puffs and rain down static electricity like lightning.
Solar Man: A robot that worked at an artificial sun research establishment. He is able to create ultra-hot pseudo suns. Because his companions tended to shut them selves away in the laboratory, he insisted on a “solar exercise” program that he devised. He is able to absorb attacks within the pseudo sun he creates above his head.
Chill Man: A robot created to observe nature in the arctic circle. His chief work is keeping tabs on the melting of glaciers due to global warming. His hobby is photography, and has published his photographs of nature’s splendor on the internet in hopes of appealing to the importance of nature. His weapon, Chill Spike, can freeze Mega Man fast to the ground.
Strike Man: The batting practice robot for a stadium. He gets in a bad mood if someone can hit all the different pitches he’s able to throw. There are occasions where he’s been sent to the maintenance factory for hospitalizing opponents he doesn’t like with dead balls. He can leap high into the air and throw his Rebound Striker, a powerful fastball.
Pump Man: A robot that worked as the cleaning manager of a water treatment facility. At first glance he appears to be an outdated robot, but he can freely manipulate water and can create water balls with powerful rotation. He is a neat freak, and has volunteered in cleaning off graffiti in town. By manipulating water he can create his Water Shield and block Mega Man’s attacks.

Blademans a guide for a castle…
You know, having 2 giant swords for hands and one for your head seems a tad unnecessary.
Sheep Man and Chill Man are my favorites, though Strike Man and Nitro Man are growing on me. I like reading their background stories instead of thinking of the RM’s merely as opponents to beat.
These background stories make me think these robots aren’t going to carry the DWN label. Could they all be more of Dr. Light’s?
I don’t know about you guys but am I the only one who thinks those sprites suck big time? The only one I really like is Commando Man.
I just hope those aren’t the finals for the robot masters. Of course they are displayed bigger here than in the actual game but to me those look really dull compared to the MM9 sprites.
^
I seriously doubt you’re the only one. But, I’m afraid I don’t quite share in your viewpoint here. I think that–with the solitary exception of Splash Woman, and not just because she was a woman–these guys look a lot better than MM9′s bosses.
@ Shotoman
Well, as mentioned already, I do think the MM9 sprites were a lot better. This just looks too rushed to me. It’s not just the design, it’s the color sheme as well, take Solar Man or Strike Man for example here. Looks more like Game Boy color to me. :/
@DarkSide
I personally really like them except StrikeMan and SheepMan, even I could have drawn these
Nitroman definitely has lots to work with, all of them I like with the exception of Solarman his bio seems a tad too bare.
Sheep Man’s story was the funniest, and I also found it funny that Chill Man likes to post his photos on internet! Not sure if I’d want to have Blade Man as my tour guide though, what if he starts to glitch and accidentally stabs you?
“Strike Man: The batting practice robot for a stadium. He gets in a bad mood if someone can hit all the different pitches he’s able to throw.”
I guess after we defeat Strike Man, we can start calling him “Out Man”. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! Oh, I kill myself.
Ok, assuming that the Pump Shield doesn’t suck horribly, it’ll be Strikeman’s weakness. It’ll reflect his shots, and he’ll rage at you, run at you, hit the shield, and bounce off, hurt.
Otherwise the Pump Shield is strong againest Solarman. I’M CALLING IT NOW *pose*
I bet you use Blade Man’s weapon to hit Strike Man’s pitches.
Chill man beats Nitro man I predict. His weapon slows you down and Nitro man is a fast bike.
Sheep man should beat pump man for the obvious lightning vs water connection.
Sheep > Pump
Pump > Solar
Solar > Strike or possibly Chill for the obvious global warming reference (I think capcom may be crafty enough and do hot sun over a sports field)
Thats the best I can figure.
I still cant decide who’s more unconventional. Sheep man? Or Strike man?
Blade man resembles the design of Sword man from Network transmission.
These bio’s really make the robot masters seem really cool this time around. My first impression of them was “LAME”. But now that I know that Sheepman has to struggle with issues like trying to find your purpose, it gives them some much needed depth.
PS: I wonder if Chillman has a deviantart page.
Nice article. Even though we already had sprites and official artwork I really appreciate this nice little “night cap” if you will. Nitro Man and Chill Man are the only one’s design wise I don’t like…they could have used Nitro Man from MM Unlimited (previously the fan made MM10) and he would have looked much better. Sheep Man is probably still one of my favorites tied with Solar Man now…reminds me of Pharoaoh Man mixed with a man sized Met…look at Solar Man’s head…it’s basically a Met with it’s helmet upside down and prongs on top but he still looks good to me. Strike Man is good for that ol Air Man nostalgia (I can’t beat Strike Man!!!) and surprisingly…when I first saw Pump Man I was like…”uh Dive Man with a hole and handle on his head?” but since I’ve seen his level his sprite has grown on me ALOT and the handle reminds me ALMOST of a 8 bit rendition of Grenade Man. Nitro Man is OK but Chill Man…I’m sorry but he’s my least favorite…if at this point you STILL can’t be creative with a ice based Robot Master then DON’T DO A ICE BASED ROBOT MASTER. Rant complete.
Commando:
Nitro: 7/10
Blade: 6/10
Sheep: 9/10
Solar: 9/10
Chill: 4/10
Strike: 9/10
Pump: 8/10
@DarKsidE
No, kiddo, Strike Man doesn’t look like anything out of a Game Boy. You’re just not a spriter so you wouldn’t understand. The strange phenomena you’ve experienced here is called a “palette”. In accordance with the NES graphics, Robot Masters cannot feature more than two colors, black, white, and occasionally a skin color (the faces of robot masters, as well as Rockman were actually applied as a separate layer back in the NES days).
@Burst
Luckily, an individual fan’s idea of what is and isn’t original doesn’t matter to anyone upstairs. I, for one, thought that the entire “Megaman 10″ fan project was and still is pile of crap, outside of an engine they didn’t make. All of those bosses came across to me as horribly out of place, and yes, by going with the “one female master per game”, they very much -had- made them into a gimmick. If Capcom had done the same, they’d just be succumbing to this very same gimmick. There, I said it.
======
The only Robot Master for Rockman 10 that bothers me is Blade Man, and only because he bothers me as a spriter. His dark purple coloring combined with his white gleam just doesn’t look right to me.
Note that these are robots with the Robotenza virus and neither Wilys or Lights Robots
Amazing that Chill Man posts his Photos on the internet, I wonder if he has a Net Navi called ChillMan.EXE…….
“Note that these are robots with the Robotenza virus and neither Wilys or Lights Robots”
They’ll inevitably end up inside Dr. Wily’s castle during rematches, at least.
Fishman speaks the truth.
On that note, maybe, juuuust maybe, its NOT WILY this time?
I think Chillman and Nitro,Blade man are my real Favorites
the one i hate to most is Strike man … i dont like baseball not a baseball fan srry strikeman
Nitro Man screams of Ride Boarski, which is awesome. Pump Man’s description surprised me, so even in the utopian society of the future, they still have delinquent teenagers.
@Gurp: Well yeah, if your definition of “Utopian” means “Having robots try and destroy everything on a regular basis.”
Anywho, I like Nitro Man. It’s like Turbo Man, but micro-sized!
This should be somewhat the weaknesses that i worked out
Sheep Man thunders on Pump Man,Who washes out Solar Man,Who Melts Chill Man Who freezes the engine of Nitro Man which Metal-Blade-like Weapon overcomes Blade Man somehow, who cuts Strike Man,who clogs up the weaponry of Commando man,who just somehow beats Sheep Man
These Robot Masters really stick onto me. They all look great, with an exception of a few.
Commando: 7/10 Not the brightest idea, IMO. He looks alright, at least.
Nitro: 9/10 Very cool idea. Although similar to Turbo Man, he’s still unique.
Blade: 10/10 Looks amazing. I was thinking he would turn out to be weird looking, but in fact, he looks awesome.
Sheep: 8/10 Looked really weird at first, but turned out okay.
Solar: 5/10 I don’t like his design at all. That giant panel, to me, looks like a bad hat. It doesn’t even look like anything else.
Chill: 6/10 Similar to Elec Man kinda. Looks too basic compared to the others.
Strike: 7/10 Pretty cool looking, I guess. Not a fan of sports.
Pump: 8/10 Indeed, he is somehow very classical. He reminded me of Grenade Man.
What disappoints me the most is the lack of female Robot Masters. In Rockman 11 and onwards, I better see loads of females.
This lineup has really started to grow on me, and with the exception of Pump Man’s rather boring weapon name (assuming it’s the actual name and not just describing it), and Solar Man’s very monotone sprite, I’m loving all the new info.
My predictions on weaknesses:
-Solar Man’s flare absorbs firepower from Commando Man and sends it back at him
-Commando Bomb shatters Chill Man
-Chill Man’s ice freezes Nitro to the ground
-Nitro Man’s blades can reach high into the air to shear Sheep Man
-Sheep’s Thunder Wool shocks Pump Man
-Water Shield protects against Blade Man’s meleeing and rusts him out
-Blade Man’s slash slices Strike’s pitches
-Rebound Striker knocks Solar off balance while defending, then hits him again on the rebound
Oh damnit, why do I still read comments about MM Unlimited?
Guys, please, come on. As much as I appreciate the dude’s obsession with the franchise, he’s just not a good Robot Master designer.
Nitroman’s background is just… is Capcom phuqquin kidding me?
http://centauros.deviantart.com/art/Nitro-Man-150355097 this is my little gallery page… check it out its Nitro MAn….
damn it damn it damn it damn it damn it no fair i came up with commando man blade man & chill man just damn it all how am i suppost to show my work him if he already came up with them already damn it back to the drawing to the drawing board
I think the weaknesses are going to be like in Megaman Zero 4,
I.E., Solar Man and Pum Man are weak to T. Wool, Chill Man is Weak to P. Sun, Sheep Man is weak to C. Spike, etc.
Strike Man’s a maveriiiiick!
On topic, these backgrounds stories are pretty cool. The more I see of this set of Robot Masters the more I like ‘em.
@TrebleBass–No, the weapon weaknesses will be a typical paper-rock-scissors-cumquat-puppy loop. Yes, it’s made by inticreates, but so was MM9. The plot twists–like MM9′s expiration dates–may feel more like something from the Zero series, the gameplay itself is gonna be like the classic series.
Off topic, I’m totally gonna play Mega Man Unlimited when it comes out. Sure, the Robot Masters aren’t quite what would actually be made by Capcom, but they look cool nonetheless, and are as a general rule, a lot better than a lot of fan Robot Masters.
im trying to figure out what the weaknesses would be
only thing i’d bet on is nitro man being weak to chill man since chill man’s power freezes people to the ground and nitro man is all about speed
Cute. I like Sheep Man’s.
I agree one someone saying that fan-made designs aren’t really the best. I very much prefer these Robot Masters over any other people’s designs. Chill Man’s an exception, because he just looks… a lil’ odd to me.
@Zetra
I disagree the fan-made Robot masters Megaphil made were marvelous, I don’t know what people have against them. I’d have preferred some of the concepts he used rather than Capcom.
Jet > Pump
Wow. Never before have RMs had backgrounds this elaborate. That’s something else, really bringing these old games into the modern era…although I doubt we’ll see any of this established in-game.
Still, these backgrounds have gone and basically obliterated the line between “Robots” and “Reploids” in the Mega Man franchise. They sound like they have free will to me, coming and going as they please, taking interest in their jobs. Anyone notice Sheep Man feels outright weary about his career? Cue the ol’ “what it means to be a reploid/maverick” debate. This seals the deal, if everyone hasn’t realized it by now, Capcom officially doesn’t care anymore.
When it comes to this MM Unlimited…I give that guy credit for decent level design. However, the music isn’t very good and overall, his RMs are indeed dreadful. Jet, Comet, Tank, Nitro (durh) are decent concepts. Yo-Yo Man and Nail Man are bad concepts. Glue Man and Rainbow Man are absolutely terrible concepts. For designs, the most I can say is you could do a lot worse than Jet Man and Comet Woman for sure. Everything else is just downhill, with Rainbow Man being the cream of the crap (ahahahahalofsldfodlo).
The only all-around good one is Yoku Man. He doesn’t look like a Capcom robot master, but he’s still all right.
@boyle: Actually, the Robot Masters have always had such kinds of backgrounds given to them. Check our wiki sometime. Also, they’re not really meant to encroach on X series material or anything, just because it seems like they have free will. The classic series stuff just isn’t that… serious.
Well that’s kind of what I’m saying. Classic series doesn’t take it that seriously, and I don’t think Capcom does either. Not that I think Capcom’s doing anything horribly wrong or encroaching on X, it’s just something the franchise has forgotten. It hasn’t really been a point of interest in the games anyway for years and years.
I thought Sheep Man’s bio was especially elaborate, what with all his career-changing and his aforementioned feelings of weariness and disenchantment. Could be wrong, it’s been a while since I glanced the old ones over, and there’s lot. Did you get them all just from sourcebooks, or RM reveals from way back when, maybe Rockman manuals…?
@boyle
I prefer Yo-Yo man to Pumpman only because he’s going to be the butt of soooo many russian reversal jokes. D:
personally, i think that most of them are good except chillman which i like, but his theme is overused, and pumpman, which i dont understand what good a wall of water could do
Water at high enough speeds can cut through anything ;D
And now you know 8D
C’mon la… it’s joke i hope…. personally i’m disappointed with the Robot Masters of Megaman 10.
StrikeMan…. A soccer PLAYER????…. Just call him Beckham Man… this will be the same.
PumpMan…. What look like the life of someone named PumpMan?? HangoutMan: ‘Hey Pumpyboy wanna come to the bar?’ PumpMan: Here come the little bubble OOOOH YYEEAAAH.
TurboMan…. why do you need a stunt robot when you can generate them with the magic of special FX?
SheepMan…. Sheepman is a joke.. this must be a joke it’s not serious no please…. this as ruin the game.
I love how these backgrounds pretty much screw around with the series own canon. Is this like a seperate branch of Capcom that comes up with this stuff? Did they not notice the pretty litte “DWN” before the names in the credits?
They may of had a background, but since they were “weaponized” by Wily, so these little blips probably shouldn’t be in the present tense, just saying.
Even Blade Man’s face is a blade. Sweet. But why does Commando Man and Sheep Man seem to be the stars? Especially Sheep Man. I mean, he’s okay, but he’s not as good as Blade Man. If Blade Man’s stage was better, I would totally vote him my favorite. But Pump is my favorite.
