Inafune Remains Adamant About Legends 3

What’s new in the realm of Mega Man Legends 3 news? Consistency, one might suppose.

Capcom Community Manager Seth Killian appeared recently on the 4 Guys, 1UP Podcast, and naturally, the subject came up. Prompted about the mere possibility, Killian said:

“It’s definitely not dead and Inafune says, I saw him yesterday and he always says that. He knows that’s a question from fans all the time and he talks about it all the time: ‘you know when I finally get some time, I’m going to work on a Legends 3 or something.’ He definitely would like to see it happen.”

So, same old, same old. I get the feeling that Bionic Commando might have something to do with this; journalists begged and pleaded for that one, too, and when it came out, sales weren’t up to snuff. So it may be little wonder that all the begging and pleading for a Legends 3 isn’t helping make it a higher priority for the brass at Capcom.

Hmm, maybe your right. It won’t be just begging that will get us Legends 3. We need to prove that this game can and SHOULD happen!

Hear me out. I am no programmer, nor a director. However, if someone could make some sort of demo of how Legends 3 could go (at least gameplay, for Capcom has the final say in the story line), then they would get motivated to do it. For instance… gosh, what could we do?

I am guessing either dressing some people in costumes, make a rather low budget (but safe) obstacle course and show how the movements and weapons of Legends 3 would go, or just a fan-made beta (3-D of course). Also, mention some Always-in-mind ideas for the game (combat system for close range or Volnutt with some type of saber like Zero). Show examples from what worked before (and still does), what is new and works now (online multiplayer, co-op, etc.), and some wishes here and there.

We just need to show them that they can make quite a profit from this. Maybe not as much as Modern Warfare 2, but a profit nonetheless. But the longer they wait, the more they hurt their chances, for the hype eventually, but gradually, dies.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you want something from a big corporation or company you have to TELL THEM!!!! Granted that Inafune doesn’t have nearly the influence over game marketing and descisions that he used to have but if you really want Legends 3 (like I know you all do) then you have to show support to Capcom by doing the following:

E-mailing them or posting on their site

Purchasing their products (particularly the related products)

Getting more people who are fans aware and involved (which is where this site comes into play).

    and

Educating yourself on other ways that you can get the attention of game producers (such as through magazines like Nintendo Power, etc).

I know that it sounds easier than it really is but if you don’t make the effort yourself, nothing will get done. I have been trying to get better contact with Capcom for years now and its tough, but I for one am not ready to give up.

  3. ZetraΩ.exe says:

People need to start buying the games. But, some people are just idiots who want to play a game randomly, rather than “wasting money for something I won’t be playing with after a week”.

  4. KKdog44 says:

Mann i miss Megaman LEGENDS SO MUCH!!!!!!
Damn ur right, the longer i they the more Fans they will lose……

  5. Gamma Rallyson says:

    Oh Inafune, you tease! D:

  6. Airman says:

    @Zetra

I couldn’t have said it better myself!

  7. Metaflare says:

Y’know, MML3 may end up in the “Duke Nukem Forever” area. I don’t want that to happen, but it sure is reminding me of it.

  8. Airman says:

    @Metaflare

Yeah I know what you mean…it sort of does have that feeling doesn’t it.

  9. leo_dragon_knight says:

As long as it comes out on a system I own, I’ll buy it. Nuff said.

  10. Airman says:

    Same here.

  11. RegalX7 says:

Put Legends 3 alongside ZX3 for Megaman cliffhangers that will never have sequels. I liked Legends 1 & 2, but I never find myself wanting to replay them that much. They’re fun the first time through, I guess I should say. Maybe I should go through them again, soon, to re-evaluate my opinion.

I think it should be pointed out that Legends has a pretty big hate-base, like EXE and SF, for being different from the side-scrollers. Off the top of my head, Screwattack and another site that was posted here in the past, wrote hit-pieces on it as part of segments on bad 2D to 3D transitions. I’ve done no research on this, so I’ll ask… Does anyone here know anything regarding the Legends hate-base being larger than the Legends fan-base? Which is larger?

  12. Zetra> But how does one buy what is not there? The only way that might really work is if there was some sort of aftermarket surge on eBay or Amazon, leading Capcom to take notice.

  13. Alilatias says:

RegalX7: I don’t think the size of the hatebase and the fanbase of Legends can be accurately measured at this time.

It seems the internet just barely existed in its current mass communication form when Legends came out in the late 90s/early this decade. Chances are the vast majority of everyone that liked/hated it didn’t figure out how to use the internet, let alone set up/find fansites like TMMN, until the EXE era had already started. Whatever hatebase Legends may have gathered in those days has likely already been shifted towards the EXE series.

Right now, it appears that the Legends fanbase appears to have the stronger presence on these fansites right now. That’s probably only because the hatebase is most likely dormant from Legends not having any new games for years and/or the attention of the hatebase has been shifted towards the EXE/SF series. The Legends hatebase that you describe, however small or large it may be, will likely shift their attention back to Legends as soon as a new Legends game is announced.

I’d actually recommend checking out the full episode. Only the above quote has anything to do with Legends, but its interesting to hear about different subjects from Seth.

  15. Blue Bombers cousin says:

PEOPLE PEOPLE!! BOYS, GIRLS, TEENS AND ADULTS, OLD AND YOUNG PAY HEED TO MY WORDS if we want this title we must band together!!! we MUST show that it is what the world of gamers wants!!! we must rally together and either bombard Capcom with an INSANE amount of mail DEMANDING(!) that we NEED Legends 3!! F

  16. Blue Bombers cousin says:

(lousy word count cut me off!) OR we must have a rally in front of Capcoms office (were ever that is!) and MAKE them KNOW that we NEED Legends 3!!!! ARE WE NOT MEGAMAN FANS!! HAVE WE NO FOLLOWED THE BLUEBOMBERS COUNTLESS DEFEATS OF WILY, SIGMA AND COUNTLESS OTHERS!! BAND TOGETHER FRIENDS IN THE GAMING WORLDS HOUR OF NEED!!!!!!…wow thats like the “I have a dream speech of the gaming world…

  17. RegalX7 says:

I think you’re correct, Alilatias. The ‘strong fanbase on this site’ is something I’ve been wondering about for a bit of time – the sales of both Legends games are absolutely dreadful; the only Megaman games that did worse are Xtreme 1 & 2 and Battle Chip Challenge… Where are all these fans coming from?

  18. RegalX7 says:

Especially fans like Blue Bombers cousin.

  19. Blue Bombers cousin says:

@RegalX7: hey i resent that…but yeah ya kinda got me there…i guess if you are a megaman fan who cares about the story you buy the game more for the story rather than gameplay, graphics, etc and thats why i buy as many of the games as i can because i think the story is one of the greatest in video game history…but i guess i was a bit over zealous wasnt i?…

  20. Darth Maver says:

MEGA MAN LEGENDS 3 WILL NEVER SEE THE LIGHT OVE DAY…………………NUFF SAID

  21. hsbinh1412 says:

Now all we need left is a website called http://www.Megamanlegends3.com and some online petition with over hundred thousand signatures

  22. Franklin says:

Capcom has never cared about what we want! I don’t expect anything from them. It took us years to get MegaMan 9. What makes you think we are going to see Legends 3 any time soon?

  23. Forci says:

Consistent?!? HAH!! This is coming from the same people who said that “if Inafune wants a game to happen, he will make it happen.” Honestly, I say that they should get their stories straight, or better yet, just come out and give us a flat-out answer already.

  24. Matthew says:

a megaman zx3 would be awesome

  25. Matthew says:

    or a X9 or legends

  26. 8BitBurst says:

@ hsbinh1412: Why doesn’t someone make a website like that??
Better yet why not just ask for a petition here?
Certainly our signatures here couldn’t hurt the cause.

  27. MetaSigma says:

I’m no hater of the series, but I’m one of those people that didn’t really enjoy that transition of the 2D to the 3D. From what little I did play *And I’ve seen the whole game and it DOES look interesting* I could never get that feel down. It just felt…meh to me. I WOULD however support a L3 game if a petition came online on this site. =P Just because it’s not MY kind of MM game doesn’t mean I wouldn’t support a great series that many other people that have more knowledge than I do enjoy. Maybe someday I will go back and play it.

  28. PhantomCobra says:

You see, the problem with Legends is that there is no “cool” character to take the place of Proto Man or Zero. Hence, there hasn’t been as much of a want for a sequel.

The Star Force series is on hiatus because they didn’t introduce Solo until episode 2 and he’s more of an emo character than a cool one.

ZX is on hiatus because they killed off the cool character in the first one, and didn’t bring him back for the second one.

The X series is on hiatus because they introduced a dweeb in X7 who practically negates the effects of Zero’s coolness.

  29. RegalX7 says:

Blue Bombers cousin, I wasn’t trying to be that offensive. If I came off that way, I apologize. Just poking fun at a near ALL-CAPS post.

  30. Franklin says:

Mega Man 9 (like you said)
    Street Fighter IV
    Tatsunoko vs. Capcom
    Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 re-release.

=/ We got these because they cared about the fan demand for them to release them.

  31. Airman says:

Exactly, its just as Keiji Dragon says, its not that Capcom doesn’t care, try to remember that in the end they are a corporation and a business and they have a yearly budget to stick to every year, so they will only accept a limited number of new game ideas every quarter and of those, they focus only on the ones that will make them the most money. Perhaps the reason it would be difficult for us to see a Legends 3 is that Capcom simply feels that it would not be cost effective or draw enough profit. To remedy this we need to show Capcom that enough people want the game to be released through petitions and game sales. I like 8BitBurst’s idea for a petition here to then be sent to Capcom, but we would need A LOT of names (I’m talking into the thousands!).

  32. Gamma Rallyson says:

“You see, the problem with Legends is that there is no “cool” character to take the place of Proto Man or Zero.”

HI! The Bonne Family would like to have a word with you…

  33. Blue Bombers cousin says:

@RegalX7…again: Na i was just kidding aswell but remember: Capslock: are you ready to unleash the FURY!!

  34. KKdog44 says:

    WELL LETS DO IT!!!
Some1 start it or sumthin and i’ll spread the word EVERYWERE I GO

  35. Dynamo8 says:

Well. . since this year is almost over, let’s see what 2010 has in store for us because I got a feeling that next year’s games are gonna be a lot better.

  36. PhantomCobra says:

““You see, the problem with Legends is that there is no “cool” character to take the place of Proto Man or Zero.”

HI! The Bonne Family would like to have a word with you…”

Sorry, but the only Bonne who could even remotely qualify as “cool” is Teisel, and he’s more funny than cool. (“We may be pirates, but we’re not barbarians. We’ll let them keep the toilet paper.”)

So far, the coolest character they’ve come up with is Bola, but he’s more of a Dynamo type than a Proto Man/Zero type.

  37. Emuji says:

All people that says that Capcom never cared what we all fans we want are absolutely right. I don’t expect that Capcom will release no one of my “games of my dreams”: for example, a battle crossover in which appears characters of all sagas, or a Rockman Zero for a cool platform (like PSX… because I think Rockman Zero is a saga that doesn’t fit with GBA…)

    Etc…

  38. dorian says:

i really hope u bring this game i really do

  39. PStart says:

MegaMan has a lot more going for him than BC did. Rearmed was a good move, the big budget title was not. He’s a classic IP, which hasn’t had a game in forever. Little to no name recognition.

MegaMan, however, is still pretty relevant in a large portion of gamer’s minds. He’s slipping away though!

there is a petetion going on already

  41. Arne Jan says:

sorry forgot to post the link in last post http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/megleg3

  42. MegamanXTi says:

@Arne Jan: I started to sign the petition, and submitted my signature. However, the petition said I already signed. I thought that petition looked familiar… I searched for my name, and sure enough there it was. I signed it in August 2007. Oh man, that thing has been active since 2006 and it only has about 2,800 signatures and the goal is 100,000?!? Wow, guess we need to get the word out even more, guys. =^/

While this is true, Kieji Inafune has taken not care of the Megaman X series as much he promised in the past. Street fighter 4 has at least convinced me that Capcom can still please fans while having a great game for anyone who wants to play. If Capsom wants to get Megaman more popular, they have to stop shooting off mediocre titles like the Star Force series. In all honesty, that series I believe will halt the progress for Megaman Legends 3…..

  44. Jeff says:

If Legends 3 is mediocre, it will only appeal to hardcore Legends fans and will flop. If Capcom does a good job and makes an amazing game, I’m sure plenty of people will buy it. It can’t just be another average megaman game, relying on the strength of megaman’s name. It has to be LEGENDARY.
