What is Inti Creates up to?

question1For this decade, which is swiftly coming to a close, Inti Creates has been a major component to the Mega Man franchise. Starting in 2002 they developed the Mega Man Zero series with Capcom and then followed with Mega Man ZX. They were also behind the unexceptionally received Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge. But of course, what they are now most well known for is the much beloved Mega Man 9.

But what will Inti Creates bring about next? Since the release of Mega Man Zero, Inti Creates typically developed a Mega Man game for release in Japan every spring to summer, with news of such titles starting to appear in the late winter. However, the expected window of time for an announcement this year has already been passed, and Inti Creates’ official website has remained surprisingly quietly for most of this year so far.

That’s not to say that Inti Creates has been idle. So far this year, they’ve released Japan exclusive Nintendo DS titles for the Sgt. Frog and Crayon Shin-chan series. Of course, these are not Capcom published games. What Capcom may be working on with Inti Creates is indeed a mystery, and one that has gone on for a surprisingly long time this year.

While Capcom is moving on with Rockman EXE: Operate Shooting Star, I personally doubt they are not through creating Mega Man titles with Inti Creates. As Mega Man 9 itself was such an abrupt and surprising announcement, we really can’t rely too much on the past trends of their game releases. What we can rely on is he fan support for said games. There are people that want the continuation of Mega Man ZX. There are people who want Mega Man 10. There are people who want Mega Man X9. Most of all, there are people who simply want more. That’s reason enough to suspect that Capcom and Inti Creates have something in the works this very moment.

For now, we can only keep our eyes peeled.

Darn straight! Surely…surely they are not through with MegaMan : (

I loved the surprisingly good Zero series, ZX….well, it was good, but not AS good. The only connection with Megaman games is that they’re “megamen”.

Plus, the plot for ZX seems to have…well, no true ambition. It’s actually kind of…bleh.

At least in the Zero series you were left wondering just why the hell Zero is in the future and all of that.

But in either case, their games have been good, and I’d like to see a continuation/ending to the ZX series.

I think its only fair that they should do X9 next since Inti Creates has made a new series, added MM9 to the classic series, and been experimenting with other types of games as well. I know there are many who want MegaMan X9 to be the most expensive endeavour for the Megaman franchise so far but look how good of a job Inti Creates did with using 8 bit graphics for a virtual game, imagine the feel of MegaMan 9 but with the X series…The overall negative reaction to X7 and X8 should be proof enough in trying to make X9 anything more than 16 bit. I’m all for making the X series as good as possible but I think it would be amazing to have a companion game for MM9. Let’s let Capcom or Inti Creates work on perfecting big budget Megaman games later, after us nerds have our final swansong.

I honestly get the feeling X9 is on the horizon more than anything. As much as I’d like 10, MegaMan 9 was a reach out to fans of the classic series as well as a chance for Inticreates to prove they could release a retro-title and get sales.

The Zero/ZX series have a lot more in common with the X series, and I get the feeling from the various nods to X series past I see in those games (especially some specific elements in ZXA like the Bug Copter, Runaway trolley, highway…) that they’re itching to bring X back to his roots in the SNES style.

The only other reason I have to support this is an SNES/PS styled X game would take even more work in terms of graphic design and game design than MegaMan 9 did, and thus would explain why they’ve been so quiet.

Had no idea, I thought everyone wanted SNES graphics.

Which I’m all for, plus, I want it to be multiplatform.

I seriously don’t want it to turn into a “why can’t I play the game damn [console] waah” situation. Of course, I loved X8 as well, and the franchises quality seemed to go up, and restored my faith in the X series.

“The overall negative reaction to X7 and X8 should be proof enough in trying to make X9 anything more than 16 bit.”

Again, didn’t know X8 was received badly. X7 was bad, but X8 was a huge step in the right direction, both musically and gameplay wise. It’s X8 that makes me hold back on the “keep it 16-bit’ chatter. The game looked nice, it sounded nice (if its 16-bit, there better be a remastered/arranged soundtrack like MM9, only better), and I liked the cutscenes. I doubt you can have cutscenes like that and keep it as a download.

Actually Shake x7 had some decent music probably on par with x8 in my opinion.

i dont think i’ve played an Inti Creates game that I didn’t love. I’m sure if they do another mega man game it will be great regardless of what it is.

  8. Dynamo8 says:

Well this surely brought my hopes up a little. I was starting to lose faith when Capcom retired the the old favorite series (Classic, Legends and ESPECIALLY X SERIES). I’m glad to read this article. . .

  9. Keiji Dragon says:

Does anyone remember what happened about four years ago when Takuya Sotsu, producer of IntiCreates, said that the company submitted a “project book” or a proposal to Inafune for possible development of a Legends/DASH sequel?

What if they’re going through with that as we speak?

  10. Mr. Metool says:

Ah, the infamous Inti Creates. I have a word for that so called “game team”:

Thanks for raping my favorite game series with your MMZ crap, douches.

  11. pstart says:

I’ve never viewed adding MORE games as hurting a series. Furthermore, Inticreates kept alive the 2D sidescrolling MegaMan, at a time when MegaMan could have become purely an RPG/Action series. Can’t you respect them for that?

  12. redrazerzero says:

Agreed and my god what was wrong with the zero series.

  14. RegalX7 says:

I know I’m in the minority here, but X5-X8 & CM ruined the X series for me. I just can’t get excited for an X sequel anymore. In my dream world, they release MHX2-5 and officially end it there somehow, retconning the rest. Then the X series will once again be one of my favorites.
ZX3 is what I would most want to see come out of IntiCreates next, but as with MHX, it’s not gonna happen. One thing I love about the ZX series is that the main villain of each game are two of the best in all of Megaman (I’m referring to Serpent and Albert, not P&P).
I think MM10 is most likely, actually. The Classic series is my favorite overall, so I’d definately be fine with that. I just think that maybe the novelty of a new 8-bit game is gone, so they should go a different route. But Capcom probably won’t get that.

What I hate most is when they plan for a new series to do well, setting up sequels, then it doesn’t. We’re left with ZXA, MHX, and MMPU forever.

  15. Seshin12 says:

Welll.we should know by now that they cant be done with megaman because of that secret ending to ZXA.so they cant just leave a cliff hanger like that. They are surely gonna make another.NO DOUBT!

  16. shadow2bolt says:

Mega Man 10 sounds kinda wierd as there is Mega Man X (in roman numerals, X is 10) but I love a continuation with the original series or X series. ZX, meh but if they come up with something original and unique, then things could be more interesting.

  17. Matthew says:

    I hope they make a 3rd ZX and a X9

  18. Roy L. says:

Yeah, people really want a zx3, I’ve got more comments on my youtube video showing the extra ending from ZXA you get on expert level than I care to count.. People are thinking up lots of stuff, like being able to play as prometheus and pandora, etc etc, though it all just doesn’t quite sound good enough to base a game on. I don’t really wanna think about what DOES sound good enough, since it’s useless anyway unless I was a part of Inti Creates, but I have a feeling it just can’t end with a rather open ending like it has now. Or maybe there’s gonna be another game that takes place even further in the future.. zero – 4 games, zx – 2 games, next game in future.. only 1? (nah, that sounds really pessimistic when I say it like that XD)

  19. WALL OF TEXT says:

You know, I wasn’t really that disappointed with X 7, 8, and CM. 7 was average, its only downsides in my opinion were the voice acting and annoying plot developments. The game play felt solid, however it was let down by how basic it was by PS2’s current standards. Regardless, I could pick it up and play it anytime. My biggest complaint was that they brought Zero back, but I came to realize that that was just Capcom cashing in. 8 was definitely a step in the right direction on all accounts, however it still felt kind of dorky and embarrassing at times. My sole complaint with CM is that the story was horribly predictable and cliched.

I think all three games would have been better if Zero wasn’t in them and they instead focused on Axl in an arc that brought about the Elf wars; but alas, that’s merely fan fiction at this point.

  20. Shake says:

    Arc about the Elf Wars?

Haha, when X7 came and Zero was still in there, they threw away any sort of plot. Wasn’t Zero supposed to be hibernating or something?

Also, to the guy that said he wanted it to end at X5, good news, according to Inafune, thats pretty much correct.

  21. redrazerzero says:

Actually Zero came back since 6 and milking a series is a good thing
because money makes better games.I think not sure though, Zero was more
    popular than X back then.

  22. J. L. says:

“In my dream world, they release MHX2-5 and officially end it there somehow, retconning the rest. Then the X series will once again be one of my favorites.”

    Same here, Regal. Same here…

“Actually Shake x7 had some decent music probably on par with x8 in my opinion.”

That’s right, redrazerzero; X7 had actually very good music (except for that Anteator theme…) maybe even better than X8’s, which I felt somewhat generic; too bad the rest of the game was horrible…

  23. Cress says:

Agreed, the X7 OST is pretty much on par with X8. The X8 OST won me over with the Jakob Stage Theme… It pwns! (Still playing it over 10 times whenever it comes up on my playlist)

As for the Inti Creates part…

To me, Inti Creates well… creates the most surprises. At first I was surprised that they were going to do a Battle Network game, then MM9. Who knows? Maybe their next project will be another game that will surprise everyone. Legends 3.

  24. Lumi says:

I don’t really understand some of you guys. What was so bad about the Zero series? I thought it took what X had on the SNES, and made it better. X stopped being good when X5 was released (granted, X8 wasn’t ALL that bad), if you ask me. ZX is fun, but the plot is just weird.

What I want to see, is an X game, with Zero graphics. I really like the new art direction they where going (and I can’t stand to see X-style Zero next to the Zero styled one).
    Too bad he died though.
    OR DID HE?

  25. Sniper Joe says:

@ Shake: I’m not challenging you by any means but I was just wondering if you would happen to have a link or quote pertaining to Inafune wanting the end of X series to be at X5?

Also thank you for your criticism on my comment about X7 and X8, and I’m not being sarcastic. I had heard X7 was recieved badly so I assumed X8 was recieved badly as well because I had actually rented X7, was dissapointed in it and did not think going back to a more 2D feel in X8 would have been enough to save it from the same negative feedback X7 had.

  26. Furysetzer says:

Outside of the web, I haven’t heard of anyone complain of their work on the Zero series. As far as X8 goes, it got more positive reviews than X7, but still suffered somewhat from poor level design.

If I had it my way, I’d get them working on another MMX RPG – STAT!
