The Final Mega Man 9 Secret?
Has the final Mega Man 9 secret been discovered? Probably not, but this is a pretty neat Easter Egg nonetheless.
First, observe the following screenshot from Mega Man 9. Take note of the circled area:

Next, check out this screen from the opening of Mega Man 4, which details the origin of the Blue Bomber:

Notice anything?
Of course, Seth is away at the San Diego Comic Con at the moment, so it may be just a little bit before we get any clarification. Nonetheless, a good find by new Capcom*Unity member Alexis (via Protodude).
On the other hand, I think that perhaps another newcomer, JohhnyDamage, may be on to something with his theory, just a few posts down from Alexis’:
I just read 42 pages, and I think I know the secret.
It’s love. It was inside us the entire time during this adventure. I’ll take my kudos and any Mega Man/Ghosts and Goblins figures you want to send me for my computer desk.
Somehow, I wouldn’t be surprised.

!!! The same capsule!
…huh.
If thats it… k.
To be honest, I’m not sure why you’d keep that a secret…
More to the point, Dr. Light’s Lab looks unsettlingly similar to that from MM3.
Of course that could be a dead horse I didn’t notice my stick heading towards, but nonetheless….
This would not surprise me at all if this is what Seth has been teasing us with. He did say it was nothing groundbreaking, that could very well be it.
Very cool find though.
Oooohhh…. Not bad at all!
That’s a pretty interesting find! Makes you wonder if there are any others tie-ins to the previous games.
I think JohhnyDamage is right about the love thing. It made me think of how much care the makers of this game went into making MegaMan 9, as compared to alot of the (in my opinion) half assed attempts of MegaMan, mostly Star Force and Battle Network since Megaman was not originally a RPG. I do admit however that Battle Network seems interesting I don’t really accept it as Megaman. The Megaman Zero and ZX series seem to be the most true to form games we’ve had in awhile that also suceed at pushing the idea of what Megaman could be farther.
I agree with Sniper Joe. Zero and ZX are the only true to form Megaman in recent memory. Besides Megaman 9 of course. I think though that the ZX series had the potential to be much better than was. Like utilizing the DS’s 3D graphics for something other than the title screen and horribly unrealistic explosions
I’m looking at you, Advent.
See?! The secret is that MegaMan was born in a tub! Same with X, X more so a tub, but still….
Save the Tub!
Yup, I need Kyle XY, but that’s beyond the point.
That’s a nice find, surprised I didn’t notice it. =P
You know, I find it fairly suspicious that the capsule-thing shown there is much taller than megaman, where in the Mega Man 4 screenshot, it was only slightly taller. Maybe it’s just a graphics oversight, but still interesting. Kudos to Alexis/Protodude for finding it!
I found the secret! Some sprites and theme songs come from Mega Man 2! How was that? Am I good or what?
Boo for that “secret” they found…
I just say “let’s move on to another thing already”.
Well, the secret was suppose to be a “nugget”. Though I don’t have MM9, I thought that the black areas were like an 8-bit zero shadow. Kinda silly, huh? I could be right somehow, but that would be incredibly stupid if I was on this. But I think I speak for everyone when I say that if this is the secret, we are all very… disappointed, to put it mildly.
Actually, I’d be pretty dang happy if this is THE secret.
I offer this quote from Kung Fu Panda…
Mr. Ping: The secret ingredient is… nothing!
Po: Huh?
Mr. Ping: You heard me. Nothing! There is no secret ingredient.
Po: Wait, wait… it’s just plain old noodle soup? You don’t add some kind of special sauce or something?
Mr. Ping: Don’t have to. To make something special you just have to believe it’s special.
Po: There is no secret ingredient…
…Wait a minute… Look at the screen behind Megaman. That looks like the old password screen from Mega Man 5 and others.
Forci, to follow up on what you said, how cool would it be if there happend to be actual passwords you could use in the old games behind Megaman? Very cool, but I doubt the secret ( if there is one ) would be this deliberate.
thats not really a secret… more of an easter egg..
So how do you people categorize something being half-assed? Reusing sprites and tile sets? You didn’t notice Zero and ZX Advent did that plenty? Also, I think it’s redundant to say Zero, ZX, and Megaman 9 are the true modern Megaman games, unless you’re speaking to someone who’s only played BN/SF.
Really, it gets annoying to hear some people make some negative comment about the network timeline every news post – even when there’s no need to bring it up. I want ZX3 more than any other Megaman game to be made, I prefer the robotic timeline, and don’t care whether BN or SF continue, but it really is annoying.
As for the secret… It’s better than I thought at least. That is, provided it IS the secret. I hope, so we can stop all this.
I kind of agree with RegalX7, I kind of hate when Megaman fans bash Megaman games. I enjoy all Megaman games even the ones that didn’t do as well.
Professor Frink: “Brace yourselves, gentlemen. According to the gas chromatograph, the secret ingredient is… LOVE!? Who’s been screwing with this thing?”
@Sniper Joe: …Actually, there *is* a resemblance to a certain old Mega Man V password…
To RegalX7 and Artbiter: Sorry guys I should have chosen my words better. When I said half assed I should have said is that those games I had mentioned were made to have a more marketable appeal to a wider audience, which is perfectly understandable since Capcom is a company and the purpose of a company is to make money. I did not mean to bash Starforce and Battle Network. Once again it was poor word selection and I just happen to have more fun playing the jump and shoot platforming type of MegaMan game as opposed to what I consider derivatives from the original MegaMan formula, which is once again simply my opinion that they are derivitives. I also feel kind of dumb for imposing my opinion on something entirely different than specifically what this article is about.
@Sniper Joe, it’s not your fault, my comment was mainly gear towards many Megaman fans in America that tend to say “Anything after Megaman 2 sucks” which breaks my heart.
To Sniper Joe: Don’t let it get to you, man. I’ve been guilty of poor choices of words myself. I understand what it is your getting at, though it doesn’t hurt to take a little time to check what you’re saying.
Haha thanks Rock-X, the emphasis was on apology more than analyzing my comments.
wasn’t it said that it’s a secret that we wouldn’t find out for a long time?
if it was that simple, someone could have notice right when the game came out.
there was a post that said it was something about the Date. That would make sense… maybe it’s an important mega man date? maybe if you set your wii back to the date wily has up on the sign? maybe it’s one of mega man’s anniversaries? the Konami code? Maybe beat the game 1000 times?
“I’m not revealing it here just yet. And go nuts–I don’t predict anyone will discover this one for quite a while yet…” — Seth Killian
it most likely isn’t something that’s noticeable in the first 10 minutes of playing through the game for the first time…
I already knew that, i thought everybody knew that, geez!
Erik, the thing is that if you want to hide a secret, you hide it right where no one will look – in an obvious place that you see every time you go to cutscene land. I’m amazed that I didn’t notice that, though. Guess I never really cared.
I’m still going to stand by the fact that this “secret” is a load of garbage made up just to keep us busy nitpicking away at RockMan 9 instead of begging for Legends 3, X9, or 10.
This may not be S-kills Secret, but it may be close to it!
