Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star site goes online, plus a storyline hint

exe_oss_logoCapcom of Japan has opened a teaser site for the upcoming EXE remake Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star. Right now the site just gives a brief travel backwards of the EXE series’ 6.5 million selling history, and introduces the promotional artwork. On top of that, there is a special message from series producer Takeshi Horinouchi. It reads as follows.

As we head towards Rockman’s 25th anniversary, we are beginning to work on various projects, both big and small, thinking of what activities we’d like to work on. And though the Rockman EXE series ended three years ago, we’re receiving a strong sentiment from everyone saying “We want EXE!” So, we the development team are thinking of this splendid title Rockman EXE: “Let’s try doing something again…” …That is, I myself wanted to see Rockman EXE and Netto one more time. Therefore, our next title is such. This game’s inspiration is actually a celebratory image drawn by the designer for Rockman’s 20th anniversary. From that time, I’d secretly been thinking “In time we should try something neat with ‘EXE’ and ‘Ryuusei’.” Thus, our next project “Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star” has come to be started. Essentially, this is a Rockman EXE 1 remake for the DS, porting it and adding something extra. You the fans may be wondering, what sort of theme comes with combining EXE and Ryuusei? This is something that EXE fans of course, and Ryuusei fans as well, will enjoy. Details will be published the middle of next month, so please wait a little longer. So everybody, until it goes on sale, please look forward to seeing Rockman’s and Netto’s friendship! From here on, please give us your support.

While we can continue to speculate what role Star Force has in this series, it truly appears this is aimed at the foundation of Battle Network. Naturally, we will have more to report next month.

UPDATE: A rather curious message has appeared on the Ryuusei no Rockman 3 website. Accessing the Satellite Server, where one can see messages from the Satella Police wizard Clark, this came up at the same time the EXE:OSS site went online:

Currently, it sounds like the Satella Police are secretly developing a new program to be included in Wizards. It’s rumored that if used one “can control time” but… is something like that really possible?

While it is technically only speculation, it is highly likely this message hints at OSS’s contents, at least surrounding the character Clock Genius. A little food for thought, certainly.

Thanks to everyone who brought this to our attention.

    Huh. Remake of EXE1 for the DS with SF tossed in. Sounds like it could be good. I’m particularly looking forward to this as I’ve yet to play EXE1 and can’t find it anywhere. Looking forward to see how this develops, as well as the speculation.

  2. LanX1 says:

    i dont know about anyone else but i am personally excited about this, i was never a fan of the EXE series until 3, and i think making 1 for the DS could spark something bigger for the future, like more remakes and such

  3. mainfinger says:

    everytime I read the word “port” I cringe. I’m hoping it’s just poor word choice and that it is more built from the ground up. A port with extra features is much less justified than a full blown remake considering you can play the game on a DS already with backwards compatibility.

  4. PStart says:

    I’m hoping for crazy coolness! That is to say, unexpected happenings like going half way through the game, everything seeming normal/the same, then Clock Genius popping up and messing up the timeline. That kind of thing would be awesome!

  5. kkxprs says:

    i jus hope they dont throw the SF series n the boiler caus i love it. i hope cap doesnt blame gradual sales decline on SF. actually BN has seen a sales decline since the 4th one. not becaus the drop n quality but the fact that they really didnt change it enough for the casual to notice. i personally jus skip a title so the next time i play it it’s fresh.

  6. MegaBob says:

    I hope they retain the EXE battle system. SF’s is just worser out of the two.

    Still, this is very intriguing.

  7. Ultraman.EXE says:

    sweet finally we can play a megaman.exe game on our DS, I’m a exe fan played all the 6 games and beat all 6 this is a must have for me.

  8. LanceHeart says:

    @Ultraman.EXE
    I’m quite sure DS and DSLite can play all of the GBA Battle Network games.

    Oh, and Battle Network 5 Double Team as well.

  9. mega rock.exe says:

    Finally I can have that promo art!

  10. jts105 says:

    I just got MMSF3 Black Ace!! Woot!! After starting to play this, I’m starting to think that my favorite BN titles might have themselves some competition….:) On a side note, does anyone want a Black Ace Brother that doesn’t have his noise form yet?

    He said “remake” then he said “porting” it. I hope everything works out, and well EXE1 on DS really gets me exited. Soo I’m happy.

    @jts105

    Yes, I have a spot open and we can exchange FC’s, but not here. This isn’t really the place for that sort of thing. You can find mine on page 2 of the topic designated for it:
    http://www.themmnetwork.com/community/index.php?showtopic=531
    PM me and we can work out the details without derailing the above topic.

    Back on topic:
    I still just cant really see the justification in remaking a game that’s not even that old. I’m really hoping this is jam packed with content that makes it worth it, but honestly I’m not getting my hopes up.

  13. Ultraman.EXE says:

    @LanceHeart
    I knew that already,I meant we can finally play battle network in 3-D battles with battle network side view again,I already knew the DS could play GBA games.

  14. MegamanEXE says:

    I don’t want a remake of EXE1. I want a brand NEW game with EVERYTHING new. Capcom’s getting lazy and I hate the word “port”. Man it caused my excitement to lessen, I was so excited about Rockman EXE: Operate shooting star.

  15. Zach/G-Beast says:

    hmmmmm this looks good…

    i wonder if theres going to be dual slot features like there was for EXE 5 DS

    i also wonder if the Bass Cross is going to be obtainable… i may just get BN1 just incase

  16. Senken says:

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhgg. did you have to talk about clock genius? God……… I wish I would have entered.

  17. Thomas says:

    Rockman EXE: Operate Shooting Star? Sounds like a good title, but there’s no way to play DS games on a Wii.

  18. JaredMan says:

    Sweet! You know that have to include online fight modes! Can’t wait to replay MMBN1. Won’t be the same as the original I’m sure, but it’ll be interesting to see how they work Star Force in there. Omega-Xis battlechips… fight Rogue… who knows :P

  19. Krinya says:

    I didn’t even thought this will happen. I can’t wait for the release!
    But what kinda game will Capcom make, after this? Crossover of SF and BN2 than SF+BN3, than etc.? Or an end to the whole series of BN and SF?

  20. Megazerox says:

    Something just popped to my mind. What if it is Wi-Fi compatible?! If it is I will go insane (in a good way)!

  21. Roll-chan says:

    I am so totally psyched about this right now. I love both SF and BN and I am SO glad that they actually have the two in one. PLEASE RELEASE IT HERE IN THE UNITED STATED :D *is really excited and is jumping around*
