664080While the big info boom on Rockman EXE: Operate Shooting Star in CoroCoro is due next month, this month’s issue seems to resolve the issue as to whether the game is a remake of the first EXE title, or a reimagining of the EXE series. This teaser for next month’s issue, which was posted on 2ch, specifically says that the legendary title “EXE1″ will be appearing on the DS this winter as a fusion of cards and action RPG. More details will naturally come out next month.

As a remake of the first EXE game, this does make it very curious how Operate Shooting Star will intertwine elements from the Ryuusei series, and the boss contest winner Clock Genius. We will just have to see.

    So Operate Shooring Star is just a remake of BN1? That fails… The Subname doesn’t seem appropriate at all.

  2. jts105 says:

    @Capcom *uber facepalm*

  3. Tayo says:

    Yay! ^^ I can’t wait!

  4. mainfinger says:

    that is super weird. Really wondering how the series’ are going to tie together.

  5. Melvin says:

    Lies,It could be any game.It’s a crossover!You dumb people.

  6. pstart says:

    @Melvin:
    I thought the same thing at first; I thought people were just basing it off the logo. But there’s been more press releases using the term remake, and so it seems pretty certain it is a remake of sorts.

    I think people won’t be disappointed though; EXE1 redone could be really cool. It could be introduced in a whole new way, showing Lan getting MegaMan and maybe even having new scenarios from the original. In any case, there probably is going to be a crossover element, but until the issue is released we won’t be able to tell whether it’s in gameplay, an extended story segment (which seems likely with the boss), or what else.

  7. Greg says:

    I am intrigued. This could go really well if it is a ground-up redo with new content, but if it’s just a silly little port it could be bad. I have a feeling it’s the former, since they’re hyping it.

    It could also be one of a billion things as an RnR crossover or said “reimagining.”

    I don’t think whatever it is will be quite as stellar as we’re all hoping, but I have faith it won’t be a worst-case scenario. We shall see…

  8. Ultraman.EXE says:

    if the game is a remake with new 3-D sprites and BN battle style then I’m getting the game.

  9. Forci says:

    Just to clarify, does the article specifically refer to Operation Shooting Star as this remake, or does it simply say that a remake will be released?

  10. Alilatias says:

    I’ve played every EXE game but the first one.

    I’ll definitely be picking this up.

  11. Heat Man says:

    @Forci: This is Operate Shooting Star.

  12. UND-4D0-G says:

    @Alilatias: Ditto! I’d like to see how this develops, and I agree that a direct port of the first game would fail. (Unlimited Navi Chips…woo)

  13. Forci says:

    …Well, that is a major disappointment. I was hoping to see an actual crossover, but this? No, not at all. I see this as either reseting the .EXE storyline via time travel to the Ryuusei universe, akin to what the recent Star Trek movie did, or including an extra mission showing the other half of what happened in that Star Force 1 sidequest. Or, the subtitle could turn out to be largely irrelevant and the game only have a slight reference to it.

    At this point, I am guessing the latter to be true, unfortunately.

  14. Rock Raiyu says:

    I wouldn’t mind a remake of the 1st game or any of the EXE games for that matter (except for 5, that was the worse one in my opinion.) But if they incorporate RnR Battle System, I won’t hesitate to skip it. I really want the 3×3 grid battle system back but since you mentioned “a fusion of cards” which pertains to the RnR System, I see that its probably not going to happen…I guess we will see next month then.

  15. Rhomega says:

    I’d buy it only if they redesign the Net so that each section is aesthetically unique and isn’t so mazelike.

  16. Embelo says:

    This is goin to be cool because come on Exe 1 remake Exe 1 was a great game
    The only flaw was that it was 2 easy but now Remake and maybe some starforce elements mmmmmmm.I am think this is going to be a Exe Game with starforce Gameplay Anyway i love megaman Games so i wil be getting this 1 regardless of the situation

    BN5 was not the worst, 4 was. 5 suffered from having to pick up the ball the 4 dropped. Where else could one find gems like, “What a polite young man she was!” and the wonderfully named “MGAMDS”? 4 tried to do too many things at once and failed at all of them. The games only redeeming qualities were the new art style and some of the best music the series has ever seen. 5 introduced a fun element with the liberation missions, but we couldn’t experience in its entirety as we never got the option to power up our teammates like Japan did (ultimately making the game harder). 6 suffered from that too, actually.

  18. PhantomCobra says:

    The one thing BN4 had going for it was the fact that you could actually battle NormNavis and HeelNavis instead of a random group of viruses.

  19. Rock Raiyu says:

    @ Wall of Text
    Like I said, that was merely my opinion but you bring up interesting points. I however wasn’t fond of the Liberation Missions in BN5 which is one of the reasons I don’t like. Another reason I don’t like it is because of the story (though I admit, BN4’s story was not as good as BN5. But the story in BN4 got better towards the end.) BN5 took everything BN4 had and just recycled it, including the Soul Unison system which I was fond of in BN4 cause it was different than Style Change. But again, this is all MY opinion. I’m not speaking for everyone else and I can understand why some people don’t like BN4.

  20. STM says:

    Work in the Network Transmission bosses as an extra scenario and you got yourself a deal.

  21. Greg says:

    I found both 4 and 5 to be fun… I liked the branching stories in 4 and though the liberation missions weren’t the best in 5, it had a good story and some nice net graphics.

    I guess I’m just so much a fan of the series that I don’t have a least favorite. :P

  22. mainfinger says:

    though I’m enjoying Star Force 3 so far, I’m really starting to miss the larger battle grid that battle network had.

  23. RegalX7 says:

    I’m in the probably huge minority that thinks 4 & 5 are better than 1 & 3 (I know what you’re thinking). 4 was the first one to actually be different – whether the change was good is a matter of opinion. I guess the real reason I enjoyed it more than 1 or 3 would be that I was just so refreshed to see EXE formatted differently. 3 just felt like a lesser 2, with no real improvements aside from the Navi Customizer (Which I hated in that game – having to go into it every time I needed to use the Press program, and mess up my formation).
    As for BN5, well, I just found playing as Shadowman to be incredibly fun. And Dr. Regal’s dialogue was so bad it was hilarious, as he was constantly referring to himself as evil.
    Regarding the news, if it’s a “Plus Alpha” port, then I’ll be really disappointed. If it’s an actual, full-on, not half-assed remake, I’ll be looking forward to it (Despite BN1 being my least favorite).

  24. Axl-fox says:

    good lord no
    I actually liked the idea of the crossover…but this?
    I’ve better spend my money in another crappy pokemon game

  25. UND-4D0-G says:

    4 had the second best virus battle theme, right in between 2 and 6’s IMO. Moving back to the “crossover remake”. It’d suck REAL hard if they [Capcom] thought that the SF battle grid/system was somehow enough to justify calling it a “crossover”. Hopefully there’s going to be something more/better than just that?

  26. STM says:

    Something like Shooting Star Mega Man’s presence screwing up the story of the original wouldn’t be too bad. But if it’s just Geo in EXE 1, that’ll be a little dull unless you can screw around with things to mess up time.

  27. WALL OF TEXT says:

    @Rock Raiyu
    Yeah, sorry if I sounded like I was attacking you there. It’s just that BN4 really came off as a disappointment for me. Whenever the game wasn’t in tournament mode it was wonderful. I felt like those tournaments were just cheap ways to lengthen game play. I would run through it and, on my second try, end up going through the tournaments in the exact same order, ultimately missing out on new content. I’ve yet to face BurnerMan, VideoMan, ColdMan, and I even forget that SparkMan is in the game. Heck why weren’t any of those guys soul unisons? Instead we got the tried and true navis of yesteryear. Roll, GutsMan, NumberMan, and ProtoMan can slide, as they’re constant characters throughout the series, but FireMan, ThunderMan, WoodMan, and MetalMan were old news. MetalMan only really wins out through awesomeness factor, but Metal soul wasn’t all that great(Knight soul pretty much refined it).

    Oh, and as for BN5, the liberation missions were actually really fun for me, mostly because they were the most original things the series had seen. After 4 games with MegaMan it was fun to play as somebody else, even if it was only for a little while. Though I do see what you mean about the story. It felt really bland, like it wasn’t really going anywhere. Regardless, it introduced a few of my favorite elements, like the mark cannon and buster up chips along with the demonic Search soul (which I never acquired in BN4 since I couldn’t stand playing it anymore).

    All this aside, I’ve actually found myself enjoying SF3 (almost TOO much) and may just skip this new title if it’s nothing remarkably original.

  28. PhantomCobra says:

    Wait a minute, MetalSoul was awesome! Who doesn’t love the ability to charge non-element chips?

  29. Rock Raiyu says:

    @Wall of Text
    Don’t worry about it haha. It didn’t seem like you’re attacking me, more like in a mature manner. And I agree with you about the Tournament Mode, I don’t think it was necessary but even so it was still different though it wasn’t desirable. Without it, it wouldn’t be *somewhat* different then the first 3. As for why the guys aren’t soul unisons, remember that Soul Unison only works when a Navis soul communes and harmonizes with Rockman’s in order for it to work. The ones you listed before weren’t exactly friendly. (Though I would love to see a Burner Soul & Spark Soul, don’t get me wrong lol). It was also the first game to feature Soul Unison so you can’t expect it to be perfect on the first try. Again, Style Change was introduced in BN2 and refined it in BN3 adding different features to it. The same can be said about BN4 & BN5 but it BN5 it seemed they changed the Souls around and put names on them. Though I don’t know if they did the same thing for BN2/BN3 cause I don’t remember.

    And yes Liberation Missions were new, but it kind of strayed away from what I liked about Battle Network. It seemed to turn into a turn-based RPG (I’m not fond of turn-based RPGs, there are very few turn-based games I like, and I mean VERY few.) which is probably why I disliked it. Otherwise it was a good game but it took up most of the story. But that’s probably just me.

    All in all, I’m looking forward to this remake of BN1 cause I haven’t played it. I was introduced to Battle Network on BN2. Hopefully it won’t be a disappointment and something to look forward to.

    @Rock Raiyu
    Funny, I didn’t get into BN until the second one either. I didn’t actually play the first until I was halfway through the third, so it was funny seeing how basic it was by comparison. Regardless, it was a great game. Oh, and about those navis I tossed out there; Yeah, I know Mega’s gotta be friendly with them, but, unfortunately, I’ve never even seen their story arcs, so I didn’t know. (I keep getting that mother mob boss one and Wind Man) And I don’t want to sound like I’m nitpicking, but BN4 has the most grammatical errors out of all the other BN’s and SF’s combined. Localization really dropped the ball on that one. I just felt that, since this game was supposed to be a fresh new start, more care would’ve been taken to these various areas. Oh, and please don’t feel like I’m trying get force you to like the liberation missions of BN5; your gaming preferences clearly made it obvious to me why you wouldn’t like them. Since I enjoyed them, that’s about the only thing that held BN5 together for me, but if someone doesn’t like them, then the whole game is just going to drag on forever.

    @PhantomCobra
    Don’t get me wrong, MetalMan was one of the best things about BN3, so it goes to show that Metal soul should be just as good. My brother had blue moon and whenever he whipped out Metal soul I’d deftly whip his butt with Guts soul, leaving him grumbling about how he wished it did more. A Metal Blade charge attack with a boomerang chip effect would’ve helped, and the no flinch effect(forget what it’s called) definitely would’ve been appropriate. I dunno, just saying it felt like more attention was put towards other souls, like Wind soul. That was so over powered that my brother would actually just quit whenever I put it on. Not to mention the lingering effects that came up when he got Tengu cross in BN6, just to find out that it was a broken Wind soul, which is to this day something I will never let him forget. XD

  31. GiGaFOX says:

    :( ( its look like it only remake BN1…. i wanted to cross geo with colonel huuhuhu…. But i heard some rumors that the game will be play like star force?? really?

  32. jts105 says:

    And speaking of localization errors, did anyone else notice that BN2 is the only one to have swearing? Then I saw the E rating and was like “What?!” That was weird…

  33. Megamansonicdude says:

    I think I see a gameplay image in the middle…

  34. MegaEXEHero says:
