Bleep Bloop Looks at Mega Man

The chaps over at College Humor’s Bleep Bloop series delve into the world of Mega Man:

Of course, this only covers the Classic series. Which leaves us to wonder what they might have to say about X, Legends, etc. And perhaps to hope they come back around to it.

If nothing else, they do raise one very good point: Mega Man never really became the mainstream darling that the likes of Mario, Sonic, or even Capcom’s other series like Street Fighter did, even with an animated series or three and action figure lines. I fully believe that Mega Man could hold a greater appeal to a wider audience, if given the proper kind of push. Nonetheless, one has to wonder just what exactly has kept the Blue Bomber from really catching on.

Well, if you think about it, tho each time there were different bosses and stages, add-ons, etc., you still basically had the same story each time. Wily is on the loose, wants to kill megaman, make 8 bots, kill em, and so on. Also, very linear, yet a great series.

Think megaman and and metroid. With megaman, all u did was jump and shoot through a stage til u fought the boss, get a new weapon, and repeat. Very few extra in it, like rushcycle or proto shield. But with metroid, sure, u start off slow, but then you get significantly different weapons and techniques and other stuff to change it from a jump and shoot to more action.

Don’t get me wrong, I think megaman is one of the greatest games ever, but it just lacks certain action to be as much of a franchise as other games like Zelda. But even so, Megaman shall not die! At least…. I hope not (better step it up Capcom, ur bein LEFT BEHIND!).

It’s so strange too, cause the Mega Man series really does very greatly to different audiences. (Classic really hits the old-school gamers, X series is aimed a bit more toward the teens storyline wise… Zero series is just as dark, difficult, and violent. Then Battlenetwork and StarForce has a much lighter, happier approach. ZX and Legends are somewhere inbetween.)

@Demodrawer: That’s a good thought, but Sonic is the same thing. XD Just running around jumping on things and collecting rings :) … well, uh, I guess it’s *very* different /now/ though, haha. But I would probably still guess that Sonic was more popular than Mega Man at the time.

But I think Sonic ended up getting a bigger storyline and fanbase due to the comics and cartoons. If only that happened with Mega Man :(

3/4 of those dudes were from the generation of kids that didn’t play RockMan as much. You can totally tell =p

I appreciate how they would like to… “honor” the series, but they could have done a much better job by allowing people that knew what they were talking about to review RockMan.

I believe the reasons RockMan never caught on as much as Mario is because of it’s 3rd party origin, the marketing, the association with consoles, and how much of a turn off it is to people that don’t enjoy difficult and classic games.

The Rockman franchise is a much more diverse and extravagant then lame zelda,
using excessive amounts ingredients and content that make for great game formula, especially their action combine with the artistry of varied games.

I mean don’t get me wrong zelda and mario and Et.. got theirs but not to extent
of the rockman franchise don’t compare metriod and zelda.I hate when people come one a fan specific site and does not offer constructive criticism but
instead talks about how another series is so much better.

The other thing is zelda’s only in the ranks because fans think of It’s “groundbreaking” titles which other titles clearly perpared

opps click submit anyway “cough” rockman dash

Megaman’s my favorite game franchise too, redrazerzero, but you shouldn’t claim another series is more popular than it for some reason that you made up – Ocarina Of Time’s development started before Legends was ever even concieved, IIRC, so accusing it of stealing from Legends is wrong.
