Zero & Iris: Special Edition

Remember when George Lucas decided to gussy up all those old Star Wars movies with modern day polish, special effects, and new footage, effectively ruining them in the eyes of many fans?

Well, this isn’t quite as bad as all that, namely because the anime cutscenes in Mega Man X4 have nowhere to go but up.

But if you’ll recall, during his interview with a Protodude, Zero’s recent voice actor Lucas Gilbertson expressed his desire to redub the death scene of Iris from the early PlayStation title, much like what had been rumored to be included in the Mega Man X Collection. But he left us with the question: To do it seriously, or to do it humorously?

So what did he pick? Watch and find out.

So, did he go for serious, or humorous?

Seriously, please tell me. Thanks to the internet, I can’t tell the difference anymore.

Anyway, great job, Lucas! May we be so lucky as to get this– along with the rest of the speaking parts of the Mega Man X titles– in such a fashion in the future. And don’t let us stop you from doing more– or that other version you spoke of. It would be quite awesome.

He’s too cold now and it does go with the cutscene. Just BAD.

  2. Floortay says:

NOTHING IS SERIOUS ON THE INTERNET.

    GODDAMNIT NOTHING.

  3. Xero says:

    I’m not sure. But I lol’d.

    I don’t like Iris’s voice.

  4. Tabby says:

Lucas is an impressive voice actor, I’ll give him that. The last line is a legend among MM fans, so it had to be handled carefully. He pulled it off well.

…Iris however. The VA’s nice, but almost too much so. The bad southern accent is so ingrained in my brain, I can’t hear anyone else as Iris >_< Oh well :<

  5. Axl-fox says:

well, even if it was serious or not, Im sure he could do BETTER than that Dx

  6. Gamia man X says:

at least Zero no longer sounds like a girl

  7. Skittle says:

Well, when the scripting’s bad, no amount of acting’s going to save it.

It’s a lot better, and about as serious as you can get with that kind of script. Nice to see they took the effort to redo it, that was a treat.

  8. LaserX5 says:

I loved this. I hope Lucas will redub all the voice pieces of Zero from Megaman X4.

  9. thesnake383 says:

Superb beyond the original! Redub it all! I want to hear a psychotic Zero beat the snot out Sigma in the flashback!

  10. PhantomCobra says:

I agree with thesnake and LaserX5, they should redub it all. (if they can, they should get Mark Gatha to play the voice of X in X’s cutscenes as well) However, they should leave Sigma’s voice the way it is. His voice has been different in every single game he’s been in, and I think it fits him that way.

As for Tabby’s comment, I don’t the original Iris sounded like she had a bad southern accent. She sounded more like she had a “British Orphan Girl” accent.

  11. Zero934 says:

I don’t know about the rest of the story, but the last part was better than the original.

  12. MegaMac says:

Hm…it sounds somewhat overdone. The ending hysteria is rightfully better though. Its just for some reason I like the original wording of the scene. Iris’ original voice was also unique and suited her. Even so, this is an awesome re-dub, yes indeed.

  13. Rockman Rogue says:

This is brilliant! They should re-dub X4 with this and update the graphics X8 style cuz this was seriously the currently best X series game ever! The VA for Zero is awesome. Iris is okay. Awesome.

  14. Ten says:

I have to say, I’m pleased with that. This is a younger, more easily swayed Zero. The line that will live in infamy will always make me laugh, but this was significantly better than the first time around.

Iris sounded less in pain than I think she ought to be. Zero was appropriately distressed and shaken. Let’s remember that he just got through handing his girlfriend’s ass to her. I think, with what he was given, that was about as spot on as it can be. I still think Iris should sound a little weaker and a little more pained than just quiet, though. >_>

  15. Beaker says:

    @PhantomCobra

I thought Sigma’s voice was the only good one in X4, so I’m all for keeping it the same. What would be really interesting is to re-dub only the Sigma dialog from the Maverick Zero battle. I see it almost like each new body has a new voice with it. Since he was still in his X1 body, he should have that voice during those scenes.

Anyway, that was a good job with the dubbing. Now they just need to have them do X5 and X6 like we were told would happen in the X Collection.

  16. RedMaverickZero says:

Better than the original dub, I’ll admit that.
But personally I don’t even like THIS Zero’s voice actor. =/ there’s just something about how he talks that I don’t like..

  17. A says:

Sorry but bad I always didn’t like this new voice for Zero made him sound like some stupid surfer type. The Japanese verison seems to have the most emotion in it to me.

  18. pamela pardo says:
